High quality mods

This thread is for sharing really high quality mods/community content, I.E ones that are practically of commercial quality or even better. The two best examples I know of are Horn of the Abyss for HoMM and Arcane Dimensions for Quake, try to exclude Doom mods unless they are absolutely transcendental, because everyone knows Doom has a shitload of good mods and WADs.

feels bad man

still waiting on that one user to finish the Holla Forums Project M mod

Wait what?

?

...

I want to include Call of Chernobyl, a STALKER Call of Pripyat mod.
Essentially it combines all the maps from the series into one giant, freeroam experience. It even adds a cut level, the dark valley escape (or darkscape). You can play as any faction in the series and there's even a main quest you can turn on. Speaking of which, there's a ton of new options that allow you to customize the game, such as blowout/psistorm frecuency, the weather in each map, the phases of the moon, how often mutants/stalkers spawn, and really I could go on and on.

All of this sounds pretty nice, right? Well, CoC is supposed to be a platform for modders to create entirely new experiences in the Zone. As such, it has a shitton of addons for even MORE customization. You can download weapon packs, texture packs, outfits, mutants, and additional gameplay mods such as new questlines and being able to lead large squads to take over territory.

I don't even want STALKER 2, CoC fulfills my stalkan needs to perfection.
Still waiting for Ray of Hope, though.

This, CoC is the STALKER game I always wanted.

I'd also like to acknowledge Tamriel Rebuilt, if the damn thing ever gets finished in my lifetime

The eastern 1/3 is already playable.

Oh trust me I know, and it looks pretty great. I've played through a bit of it, but I didn't get very far since I had played through the main quests of vanilla/both expansions before I got there and got kinda burned out. I'll have to get back to it sometime

Same happened to me lol. Maybe next year.

Perfect taste OP.

I've been playing Quake since it released two decades ago. It's by far my favourite FPS.

The mapping scene is loaded with talent and Arcane Dimensions, which was only released last year, is probably the absolute best selection of maps I've played in any game.

The level design, attention to detail and just complete mastery of what makes great gameplay…damn. Need to play through them again. The quality of these maps just obliterates anything in the original Quake.

If you love Quake and haven't played Arcane Dimensions, you owe it to yourself to rectify the situation ASAP.

Having never played Quake, I found that I enjoyed AD IMMENSELY more than vanilla. The aesthetics of AD levels alone blows the original game completely out of the water

Aside from the painfully obvious ones like CS and DotA:

Difficulty mod that raises the difficulty through smarter AI, proper stat/skill allocations and emphasizes fairness instead of arbitrary bullshit like most other difficulty mods do

Another difficulty mod. This one also aims to raise the difficulty by making story battles scale with your party's level, makes enemies have better and smarter skills, makes story battles enemies act as a team (they'll heal and revive each other), removes some obnoxiously broken skills, etc. This is an earlier and more balanced version of the hard type mod found on insanedifficulty.

A Neverwinter Nights module. It's a Rogue city adventure, and a great one at that. Also has porn. Lots and lots of smut and sex scenes. But the Roguery is awesome.

Dwarf Fortress mod that provides an easy to use UI to manage your dwarves. The game is almost unplayable without this.

basically one user was working on finishing the dev characters that were gonna make the cut for 4.0.

those characters were Isaac, Knuckles and Lyn, problem is that it's been a year and no one knows what happened.

Know of any good custom singleplayer missions for Crysis 1?

How the fuck does this game still looks this good?

Did someone say Enderal? Because I could have sworn someone said Enderal.

Same for Nehrim.

Also, Ornithocopter's Morrowind Overhauler should be mandatory at this point.

don't forget about SureAI's previous work, Nehrim

if you like the atmosphere of the Gothic games then it's really worth playing even if it's based on Oblivion

>Same for Nehrim.

But to be entirely honest, I was always offput by the fact that about 75% of Nehrim's overworld were largely left unfinished, with terrain and monsters but no accompanying quests or NPCs. This also made me kind of worried when SureAI said Enderal would almost be as large as Skyrim, but it went slightly better this time around.

What's some of the best weather mods in videogames? I fucking love rain in games.

It happens when you actually push limits, user, rather than force yourself to fit on a console.

Uninstall.exe is a better mod.

The Third Age mod for Medieval 2 was breddy gud, though it had some issues.

The economy was completely broken, you basically had to use cheats to give yourself money because otherwise you were only going to be able to afford building a single unit of peasants every couple of turns, while the AI pumps out armies all over the place. Iirc the map was also a bit fucky in functionality now and then.

I'd also personally have liked it to rip more audio from the LotR movies, so that each of the notable characters (Aragorn, Legolas, etc.) had their own audio sets for actions.

...

Never played Morrowind when it came out, and only played it for a few hours before I forgot about it and played something else.
Is Tamriel Rebuilt actually fun? I don't care about pretty things, but is there a proper amount of buildings/quests in these areas, or just landscapes?
Their website isn't that clear, just 90% talking about how great Bethesda is and how much they like the lore.

The "official" releases have proper interiors, npcs, and quests. That only includes the rightmost portion of the province, though. All the rest is very wip.

I can't find the book if I'm looking for the title.
Is it real?

...

That sounds like heaven.

...

Was gonna download Enderal but soon realized there's essential mods needed like UI and other shit and I can't be bothered to download that, already did that when I tried skyrim years ago and uninstalled soon after.

You either played Quake or you didn't, here have this flash port knock yourself out. No music, and you have to hit any key before the menu pops up.

Quake's Small Mod Compilation is pretty good for the sheer amount of things you can customize. The custom enemies are obnoxious and don't fit the game at all, though, plus turning them off is way more tedious than it needs to be.

Reskin mods are cool, I remember using alot of those in TF2

It was one of the best MP mod of all times but the community is pure cancer and the devs are MIA.

I'm still buttmad that valve changed sv_pure to be 1 by default instead of 0.

Anyone knows what's the name of the mod that adds realistic reloading? I remember seeing a video of it and there was even animations for when you load ammo into a magazine.

Probably because you don't pay very close attention to what's actually coming out these days. Crysis has been surpassed for a long time now.

Even the best mods I know have an element of amateurishness to them. In the Shadows and Arcane dimensions having contributions from actual AAA devs (mfx, sock, etc.) shows a level of polish most often present in those ridiculously high standard games, but even the best mods still feel tremendously amateurish.

That is part of their appeal, but it also limits them - they feel half assed, although not intentionally. Like they're perpetually stuck in the work-in-progress state and never moving beyond it.

Most online games have a shit community.

Dude, please still be here. If I did not play the first stalker, can I assume that mod, Call of Cernobyl, will include everything from the first, the story and all into the second?

It would be cool to just skip the first one and play a massive game that combines the two, but I don't wanna miss anything from the first or to have some really game ruining bugs from that mod.

The New Horizons mod for Pirates of the Caribbean is absolutely fantastic.

moddb.com/mods/new-horizons

If you care about story, then you should still play the SoC and CoP vanilla, or with a few enhancement mods.

CoC doesn't have the story or main missions from SoC, CS, or CoP. Instead, you get to choose which faction to play (even the millitary and Monolith) in a post-CoP, free-for-all zone. Each faction has a small main quest line leading up to ending the Brain Scorcher (unless you're Monolith). There's also a pseudo-story mode, but I haven't played much of that yet, and it's from what I've seen and heard is nothing like the main stories in SoC and CoP.

Oh, alright then. Thanks for the info. I'll play each game separately instead then.

This was pretty cool.

...

>No Cry of Fear
Come on niggers

Shockwave too

Main character was a hypocritical cunt.

There's gotta be more. Contribute niggers, all my recommendations have been posted.

New Horizons is pretty good from what I hear, I haven't gotten to it because I'm still busy with vanilla.

Also, HotA was good at first, but they're going into >balance tier instead of vanilla expansion, absolute travesty what they did to necro. I'm dropping HotA as soon as VCMI is finished and supports Cove.

XCOM2012's Long War mod is one of my favorite games. The tools you are given are a good deal more versatile than in the base game, but in exchange for more power, you have to deal with 3 times as much bullshit, which consistently feels great when you actually make it out of a hairy situation. The sense of constantly making trade-offs is magnified so much. there are always 3 or 4 things, be it tech, upgrades, or gear, that you really want at any given time, but you can only ever have one of them, so every time you start getting one, you are really giving up on having the 3 other tings for another month, and that sense of always feeling like you are behind and struggling, and just clawing your way through the AYYLAMOs bullshit is so dam compelling.

In terms of just pure game design, there is also a lot of elegant systems, most notably the fatigue system. The fatigue system makes it unviable to always take the same troops on all your missions, so instead of building a squad and 2 reserves, like in the base game, you build a small company, and have to make lots of trade-offs on mission power versus XP distribution.

The classes are also a lot more fluid. Where the base game had very defined skill trees that usually ended up with each class just coming down to being able to spec into two different sub-classes, maybe with a point in the other tree, because of circumstancial stuff, Long War's 8 base classes all had 3 choices at each tier, and while there were some obvious synergies, there was way more room for experimentation in the builds, and even if you ended up with some similar soldiers, it felt more like you created this brand of the class, rather than you going down the intended routes of skills. Also, the new classes were able to fill battlefield roles that didn't really fully exist in the base-game, without feeling out of place, or in conflict with the game rules.

It did have some shortcomings that are very worth noting: bad luck streaks in the air-game could end a campaign, at no fault of your own.

...

Pretty much all of Sins mods are good.
Afraid of Monsters was better.

Dead or Alive is a russian mod for Oblivion that adds one lame quest about a wizard's ring, one okay questline about troll hunting, one good questline about hunting for pirate treasure, one great questline about Akaviri tournament, one amazing questline for Imperial Legion and one fantastic questline for necromancy (in that order).

HOMM5 Gold Edition puts all the shit from three parts into one, together with mods for more neutral creatures, visible in-game skilltrees and artefact descriptions.

Tales of the Commonwealth for Fallout 4 adds a fuckton of quests and encouters, all voiced and most with multiple outcomes. The companions comment on everything that is going on, and the whole thing is way above current Bethesda's level of quality.

Not out yet but I can't wait to play it.

Inigo is a voiced Skyrim follower that has loads of unique dialogue for almost every location, can read books out loud and is very well voiced. With the amount of work put into this I can only assume the creator is a furry, but the mod itself is pretty good.

anyone who's played Blood should play Deathwish too

I wish Skyrim was made for suffering retarded leveling system with same enemys in same den/caves/crypts and MMO quests.

...

We really need a Holla Forums MOD recommendations infograph.

CoC DOES have a story mode that is essentially a rehash of SoC with some shit from the other games and some cut content thrown in. TBH I understood the story of the zone much better after playing through CoC story mode than I did SoC.

Is there any mod that disables NPC collision in CoC? All of the squad shit looks great on paper, until you realize that NPCs push YOU out of the way and love to pin you in corners and block doorways

That would be impossible.

No user, I don't give a shit if it is or isn't OP. Whatever it was in the base game should remain untouched. Just don't use it if you don't want to, modders shouldn't be moral guardians about how we should play the fucking game.
Also, H3 has never ever been balanced, it is inherently an unbalanced game. Fuck off faggot

I keep hearing so much about Arcane Dimensions but I never see a download link. I have Quake, how do I install and play this mod?

quaddicted.com/reviews/ad_v1_50final.html
Place it in the same folder as the executable in a folder called "ad" (although the folder name doesn't matter). Then type "game ad" in the in the in-game command line. Note that I'm fairly sure it doesn't work correctly with Darkplaces, so you'll need Quakespasm or another port.

Why hasn't anyone posted 1.13 for Jagged Alliance 2? It adds a shit load of weapons plus accessories.
The latest version allows you to enable eating needs, weapon overheating and dirt system (both make your weapon more prone to jamming), arming your militia with specific weapons, radio system that allows you to jam enemy comms and call for mortar fire, and more.
And the best of all is that you can customize everything about it via a .ini file.

Got it working with Quakespasm. Thanks user.

Most of them are gone. The game's official modding website was where the vast majority of the game's content was hosted (without backups) and when Crysis 2 came around EA killed the website so Crysis 2 would have less competition from its predecessor.

So you should be. Killing modding because it disincentivizes on-disk DLC cosmetics is a horrible, disgusting idea.

How about ,killing modding because client-side mods provide an unfair advantage?

I recall NS2 where players would use brightly lit neon-colored skins in order to more easily spot and track the enemy. Now skin mods are banned on all servers outside of their private whitelists and custom server-side skins are sold by the developers and server operators instead.

...

How about killing yourself

Arcane Dimensions is so fucking good that i would pay money for it, its beautiful.

Sage, if it ever comes out

GREZZO 2

Civ V has a few mods that I use that really improve the QOL of the game.

I thought that was a fangame, not a mod.

...

Enderal and Nehrim are both overrated. They code better than Bethesda, gameplay design are tad bit questionable, world building is solid and the only thing good about them though, but the real cherry on this shitcake is the story.

The writers are on suicide watch now I think. When they were working on Nehrim, they went full cuck and libtard and it shows in the story. 'Hur dur religion and tradition are old and evil and must be killed' kind of shit.

Enderal however swing things to the opposite side and Nietzche. They looked like they got 'redpilled', realised what cucks they were, story is mainly 'liberal crusade on religion', and 'tradition is what keeping us together', and they burned down the set, and pulled a the world is destroyed, everyone dies, no more games. Bonus points because they are German. And with the situation happening there in real life. I think they want to go down with the ship.

A fate far too good for cucks I believe.

...

For Morrowind
SHotN and P:C. Aim to create Morrowind and Cyrodil respectively. They make faster progress than TR.

Wow, a lot of those fakemon have better designs than the official ones.

I played the shit out of that. It's such a shame it ended up like it did. The concept is killer.

You know where to find me. ;)

GMDX to breathe some life into the original Deus Ex. It rebalances and repurposes skills and augs to give players more viable builds, it introduces perks, secondary weapons, advanced enemy AI, more detailed environments (without changing map layouts). It really does make a great game even better.

The Icewind Dale "remake" for Temple of Elemental Evil is likely going to be the best DnD game ever made.

GMDX is really great apart from the spider bots.

I lost hype when its NCR only, Legion are the bad guys.

Spider bots were always irritating turds anyway.

That was pretty disappointing, yes, but it's not like the NCR is gonna get portrayed in a positive light either. Here's hoping the writing can live up to the technical expertise of the modders.

Can't think of any other mods right now, except those that change graphics or other minor shit like Autumn Aurora 2.

But seriously, Underhell is god tier, I re-played that mod so many times.

Was it ever completed? I played a tiny beginning, long ago.

Oh lord, did you only play the house part when the mod was in it's infancy? There's a full fledged game with a possible part 2. Which I pray to God will some day be released.

Get the fuck in there again, it's not just jump-scare spooky house now. The real game begins in the prison.
