I've found FL Studio to be fairly simple to use. You can find your way around the main features and menus in a matter of hours of fiddling away on it, probably much faster if you look at tutorials.

Man, I feel you. I actually started with Guitar Pro first and had to input all the notes one by one on the neck. As for the square, sawtooth, and all that chip-sounding stuff, there's this 3xOsc instrument you can use.

Oh hi, fellow FL user. I remember you and your great loops from the AGDG thread; I believe I back there, back then mentioned something like using a melody as a means to tie them up into a whole song. The tunes Banjo and 007final within the folder are some illustrations of the process of using a melody, repeating it, having other instruments play it, having instruments play a solo over the chords, etc. in order to artificially inflate the length of the song.
As for the instruments I use soundfonts almost exclusively. I didn't take lessons but I try to learn songs/melodies by heart and by ear.

Thats good in my book. On the topic of the banjolike stringing things together, that game essentially takes one melody per level and just fits the melody to the surroundings using the instruments. So if theres a level that had a flowery meadow and a spooky castle youd have fluttering flutes and light strings and/or horns for the meadow and youd replace those with maybe darker, heaver strings and organs or a Harpischord or something. Depending on the spookyness level you could also make the strings tremolo to give that certain uneasyness to it. While i love how its done in banjo and the likes i dont think that this works for everything.
I do like instrument solos over chords though.
3xOsc is pretty good for replicating that retro sound if youre making one of THOSE kinds of games.

I personally like testing out a shitload of different VSTs and Kontakt libraries. While i mostly work with presets and the likes and some people could maybe look down upon that i dont really mind/care as long as the end product sounds alright.

in my case it was a 2 front war against redosia and greenland
i couldn't make any decisive moves on either of them. redosia guarded it's capital so every time i tried a naval assault they'd crush it, no matter how many troops i sent
i eventually managed to push greenland in after occupying the chokepoints
after that it was just a war of attrition.
i'd defend my borders while sending troops to different areas via the sea
eventually his capital had lowered it's defense so i managed to do a surprise attack

I sent all my troops around the water to take cities except for one group that went west to capture the northern cities. I eliminated green probably 10-15 turns in, giving me plenty of time to deal with incoming red and purple forces as the cities replenished. Eventually I was able to push through the water and take red's capital around turn 35 and win on 42. The longer you take to deal with green, the more drawn out your game is going to be, if you even manage to stay alive at all.

For when I browse flash game I use my chrome browser install which was supposed to have flash packed in with an auto updater, I tried sea monkey but like all shitty firefox installations it just trys to fucking download the file to my pc, where it does not play also, regardless if of if I have that swf already and regardless of if I even want to down load it, I just want to play it in the browser. I can get the swf open in an Holla Forums tab then I allow the flash plug in to run, then the swf never loads for some fucking reason.
