Castlevania Thread

Is the hard difficulty supposed to be that fucking hard or do I just suck? (Started with a new file, not NG+)

The expect you to know the enemies patterns and weaknesses really well and to have a lot of practice with the different powers.

I got about as far as the Centaur boss on hard mode. Don't remember if I beat him.

You seem to be mistaken OP. You posted a Metroid game, not a Castlevania. I'll fix that.

That crab boss was sort of a wall for me, I didn't struggle with anything else that much after the crab.

I like both.

Metroid is gay and I hate it. It's literally impossible to die in those kind of games.

Shanoa is the best Castlevania girl

who

She is.

Yes, and sometimes it just gets retarded like in Ruvas Forest where enemies can come out under your feet with no time to react. The difficulty is pretty front-loaded though, once you get the abusable glyphs.

The SHAW boss sucks. His one real bullshit thing is a single claw strike that looks undodgeable but there is actually a way to avoid it without scutum glyph union.

She's good. Charlotte is my favourite though.

WRONG

Out of all the DS castlevania games OoE is the best in terms of combat but the worst in world design.

That being said it has most of my favorite DS boss battles and Blackmore was the most fun I've had reading enemy movement patterns. Too bad his arena is so cramped because it winds up working against him in the long run.

I had a good time doing a boss medal run for this game once I figured out that was a thing.

I just started this game (it has nothing to do with the NES game) and i'm fondly surprised by it, the level design is unlike any other entry on the series and surprisingly fun. Gonna try Legends next.

A mean part of me enjoys it and wishes CV64 was a ryona game.

He's just a memorization boss though. The other serious problem is not the size of the arena, but that you end up pinned against a wall for 95% of it while the stand user just, well, stands there.

I'm not complaining that blackmore is a hard boss. It's the exact opposite he's pissy easy but it's kind of fun watching him Jojo pose and reading his actual body movements to predict the Shadows attacks. The problem I have with the arena that it's so small it makes dodging all of his attacks really easy cuz you just stand up against one side of the wall. He would have benefited from being able to move around or at least having the player be able to switch sides on him

user don't. It's a massive step down from Belmonts Revenge, just play Adventure Rebirth if you haven't already.

Shame she was so flat in X Chronicles.
Speaking of bests, Julius best Belmont.

...

Was this intentional?

Judgement was just stupidity in general. Remember, they decided to use Eric Lecarde as a kid, and make him a snobby, arrogant brat. And they turned Grant into mummy Voldo.

Just kill every boss taking no hits
You did get those boss medals your first time around right?

Kill yourselves.

She's the one who has a smile to protect.

Her avatar in Symphony also appears to have lost them, but sure, she's ok too
Carrie still best though

Oh, Maria also best girl cause she has a Stand. Unfortunately, though, she's a terrible cook if you believe Alucard.

Order of Ecclesia has the best fucking opening, holy shit. Dusk's Holy Mark/An Empty Tome is always gonna be one of my favorite tracks in vidya.

Anyway, the forest will be the most ungodly part of the game. If you can finish that, you're in the clear. Play Albus mode ASAP though holy shit he's so fucking rad.

>not broken after Albus's soul sacrificed itself for Dominus
pick one

Albus mode was probably the most fun I've had in a very long time, jump cancelling to move and fire really fast was so fucking fun holy shit

You know what annoys me about the "Metroidvanias"? They give you this maze-like castle and pretend like it's about exploration and stuff, but in the end you are still following a linear path because of all the roadblocks they put in your way. Get ability X to pass by obstacle Y. That's why I like the alternative modes better, they give you all the abilities from the start and you go off wherever you want. None of the RPG elements really give the games any depth, it's just bloat that slows everything down.

Then there's no meaning to the exploration besides looking at pretty pictures.

You got it backwards. What kind of exploration is it when you have a set path to follow? Oh look, it's a fork in the road, which one should we take? Never mind, all paths but one are closed off, so we'll have to take the only possible choice.

>You'll never have a full team of waifus and beating the shit out of THAT FUCKING DINOSAUR THING IN DAWN OF SORROW THAT KEEPS FUCKING MY SHIT UP BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO MOVE ABOUT GOD DAMN FUCK THAT THING

Except you're highly exaggerating how linear it is. Yes, there are gates to exploration that require you finding certain items, but that's called progression. It isn't a straight line you're given, but a bubble that expands whenever you find one of those items. Finding those items is part of the exploration.

Gergoth is a cutie.

Am i supposed to play 64 first or can i jump straight to this one?

You can jump straight in since Cornell's story is a prequel. Then you unlock Henry's story, and 100% that to unlock all the bonus stuff, including Carrie and Reinhart's remastered stories and costumes

You have to explore to get items and other neat stuff, that's the whole point, retard, that's how you progress in the game. You're not only arguing semantics, but you're also denying something called game progression.

...

Thanks user, will jump into it right now.

Fucking beautiful

Post the caps of that guy selling the 4k reskin

I didn't save any.

I need this

You seem to be mistaken user.

You seem to have attempted to derail the thread with the second post by being needlessly inflammatory and pedantic.

Reported and ID hidden.

It was hilarious. Guy thought he was doing the world a favor, especially to Konami for "supporting the game for them by providing new dlc for it".

Yamada Hiroshima from Konami's litigation department here, you all need to delete this thread

is soma really OP?
i always like him but never thought his ability is OP (gameplay wise that is, as for the plot yes rxtremely OP)

There's a reason he's the speedrunner's choice in the game. Soma gets access to nearly all the equipment in the game, and some of the soul abilities he can get are ridiculous, even if they don't initially seem so.

...

Oh shit i remember this, are there anymore?

I think after this thread he went on a deleting spree on somethings he posted. Comments on deviant art are still around

I loved how that one guy who tried to ruin our fun just ended up making him even more paranoid and angry.

Right after this the Bui shit happened, like right after. Leads me to believe they're not unrelated

Gergoth has best theme

Man, if that "defender of furries" was Bui, I'm gonna die laughing.

I think it's worse than the DS original version, honestly.

I played that game. I remember getting to dracula's castle before I got stuck. I guess the devs want you to grind a ton or something. My dog chewed the shit out of my game though, so I can't replay it and honestly it wasn't really good enough for me to go buy another one.

Castlevania always had the coolest monsters.

He's only easy once you memorize him. You die and die before getting to that point, then on hard you do it again. With the arena, it'd have been way cooler if the stand detached from the boss so you're trying to avoid it while beating up on the user, maybe by giving more vertical room in the arena to move around.

Skeleton Cave is a brutal place too, although by that point you have scutum glyph union to cheese past things as needed.

For the most part LoD is a superset of CV64, the only real issue is that you can't play the original duo without unlocking them in Henry's game, which requires beating Cornell (except in the Japanese version)

Sadly that goes for most of the CVHD music.

For what it's worth there's not really a bad CV girl so any favourite will be by a small margin.

I love the monsters that are stacked up, trying to hold up the throne room.

I cheesed the skeleton cave with dual hammer glyphs, just crouched at a side and started hammering the attack buttons untill all funny boners were destroyed.

Best theme coming through

I get that you're new and you make a valid point but please dont post reddit shit.

Order of Ecclesia is on my favorite games list for sure. I like the structure it has with the first half having a set of levels that are mostly linear with different locales, then a mid-game climax that introduces a bunch of plot twists and sets up the second half of the game, which is one giant location with a lot to explore and branch out. I also liked the one-liners Shanoa dropped before starting the second half and right before the final boss battle.

The only thing that holds this game back for me and prevents me from playing it more often is the villager fetch quest system to unlock more items. It's a nice idea in theory for backtracking, exploration, and collection, and some of them are okay, but the rest are unbearable. You'll have to go back to a certain location and do nothing but kill one enemy over and over, reloading one room to keep grinding them until they drop the one ultra-rare item you need (Like merman meat). You'll be doing this for an hour at a time depending on the item you're looking for, even with luck-boosting equipment. If they had made this process more bearable or made the rare collectibles static items in hard-to-reach places or something, it would be just fine, but as it is it's so intrusive that it slows down the rest of the game to the point where I just stop playing it more often than not.

I don't think I ever did all the villager quests. Some of them are like a cruel joke. "Let's see how many idiots will waste their time on this". I just do the quests that are reasonably doable and ignore the rest. I'm way past the point where I would try to 100% a game, in most games getting the 100% is just a waste of time.

So have the cutscenes from Erotic Violence been uploaded yet?

I think Order of Ecclesia is the most patrician metroidvania.

SOTN and AoS (AoS, especially), and the objectively best metroidvanis ever made, but OoE is the most patrician.
For the first half of the game OoE requires you to be aware and snappy almost constantly, with no breathing room.
It requires you to understand damage types and what enemy is weak to what damage type more than any other castlevania game.
It has some brutal as fuck bosses.

It's not just hard, it's hard in the sense that it requires you to be smart, and aware, you can't turn off your brain and go full autopilot until the second half (and especially towards the end) of the game.
It's also visually fantastic, tho it does reuse a bunch of assets in the process.

It's biggest weakpoint is the level design, wich is a bit meh.

More good CV music coming through.

I wish you guys would stop talking about Order Of Ecclesia like it's hard. If you can dodge you can beat it.

I can't seem to figure out why or how this was done.

It was made for the game boy, almost no body heard of it, and no body gave a shit. Sonia is not even canon.

Man, that art makes Sonia's tits look enormous. Too bad there's almost no fan art and especially porn of her.

Fresh Lv1 hard mode is a nightmare.

I just want to start each level on normal with 3 lives and 2 continues

What scenario is the webm from? Is this chick a vampire?

It's from Castlevania 64. It's a really bad game. But you get Vamp status when you're bitten and it means you're fucked.

This game is easy and it's not even that good, but at least it's better than the Western made ones.

I assume you were talking to

Fixed that for you

I don't think that's how you spell Aria of Sorrow.

Yes, but is how you spell Castlevania 64

Ah, yes. Didn't realize I fucked up.

If. Most screens are flooded with respawning enemies on hard, and they can pop up in ways that aren't possible to dodge. Most enemies get a lot faster too, particularly those annoying spiders and the lizardmen with the fuckoff big swords. Towards the end of the game you're better off just dodging everything instead of fighting.

You should always have enough of the items to cure that status, they're cheap, and I think you can just find them too. Better yet, don't get bit in the first place.

Nah. I found them enjoyable but they are flawed and broken games.
