Well in the original RE the reveal or twist of the game was that the Zombies were not actually supernatural but a product of a Biochemical corporation's experiments into creating biological weapons.
RE was never about the supernatural but man made horrors and experiments going too far or Spanish people trying to take over the world with alien parasites. It was more rooted in science fiction than supernatural.
