Mario thread

Mario thread

I don't like how the hat bounces up and down, it's annoying.

Here you go

It's like Mario's answer to Sonic Adventure, almost two decades late.

That's nintendo for you

It looks good. That crazy cap store makes me think that they're going back to the different caps 64 had. I just hope they make it fun to move around in.
Since they're going for loads of different worlds, I hope they take cues from similar games. A new Click Clock Wood would be loads of fun.

I thought I saw a Splatoon stage. Or is that just a battle stage?

The only new courses are all Battle Mode related, and there's only four of them

So what is it? Another semi-open world like sunshine and 64?

Neato. I'll bite, maybe emulate once its fixed.

Polite antisage, forgot to unname myself

I'm interested in Odyssey just to see how it plays and why the fuck Mario is a manlet in jew york city, but there is no way I'm buying a switch just for a Mario game.

bowser thread?

I'm not going to buy anymore nintendo games, I haven't bought any nintendo games since the wii.
I'll wait for the pc release.

It looks fun, and I'll definitely play it at some point, but I'll be hugely disappointed if the levels are small and linear like 3dworld. Graphics look worse than the wiiu.

I want to be able to enter a level and have the opportunity to pick up (almost) any Power Star. Not that gay shit they pulled in Galaxy (and to a lesser extent in Sunshine), where you select one, and that's the one you can get for that run, give me a big level full of fucking shit to do and let me do it in a relatively arbitrary order. With the way it's looking, it's not out of the realm of possibility for Odyssey to be the sequel to 64 that Nintendo's been unable to make for the past two decades. It won't happen, but you asked what I wanted.

Meaning never?
Then again, there's good Mario clones on PC.

...

But user, Morrigan isn't Bowser.

It looks good, probably the only Switch game I'd be interested in.

The movement. The horrifically limited movement of Galaxy 1/2 and 3D World compared to 64 and Sunshine is what kills any desire I have to go back to them, even though all three are pretty great in terms of level design.

I'm inclined to agree, though I can't tell if it's just because the artstyle isn't as good as 3D World's.

Punching and kicking from 64 still isn't back but his movement in this is pretty good, it's missing a few moves shown in the trailer though like the roll and spin roll

おおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおおお
R I P
I
P

Yeah, that looks like quite an improvement from 3D World, especially the psuedo-dive move he can do in the air. The dive was one of the things I missed the most about 64 and Sunshine. I like how he can climb traffic lights, too. Not too bothered about the lack of punching and kicking, the hat toss seems like it's more fitting since it's more conducive to platforming.

I just hope they don't bring the sprinting from 3D World back, I can't tell if the bits in that video where he's leaving a smoke trail behind him is sprinting or if he's just reached max running speed. I get why it was added, since they were trying to make a sort of 3D SMW and sprinting was in that, but it just felt unnecessary to me all the same.

The movement in Sunshine is probably the main reason why I've gone back to it so much after getting it on release, even though, in terms of design, the Galaxy games and 3D World are better in a lot of ways. I'll take Sunshine's crazy movement over the latter entries any day.

I'm probably focusing on movement too much, but I'm a sucker for fun movement options in vidya. My favourite 3D platformer series was always Ratchet & Clank and a lot of the reason why was because the movement in those games feels so buttery smooth.

...

3D Mario clones? Outside of emulation and one or two ports I don't know what you're talking about.

I just watched the trailer, and damn, the environments that aren't colorful and bright look fucking horrible. The city looks worse than GTA4, and that was nearly 10 fucking years ago. The draw distance is total shit and textures simply don't exist.

is Nintendo that stupid and greedy?

Looks like shit compared to Galaxy, fucking lazy and with 2008 tier graphics
None of them, i have never played Sunshine either way
Should have been on the fucking Wii U to begin with, they are killing their own consoles with that lack of support.

This is not a WiiU game, dumbass.

yes

I just wanted to see Mario Sunshine remade, running in 1080p 60fps with all the cut content readded into the game

This shit sucks cock

That's why he said wait you nincompoop

Here's a bunch of details from the Nintendo JP Switch stream translated

- development is pretty much finished
- the producer wanted people to get hands-on, but since the release is farther off, Nintendo decided to hold back
- the theme of the game is active exploration by players
- the objective is to rescue princess Peach
- Mario goes out from Mushroom Kingdom and travels a “certain Earth” with a hat-shaped airship
- go on adventures across various countries
- many ideas were gathered from the team to implement in the game and they build each one into a playable form
- the team keeps playing those elements over and over again
- the team only throws these ideas into the sandbox if they find it to be really fun
- Mario will have more facial expressions this time
- the hat is still a secret
- in desert buildings, you can enter and explore inside
- in the desert, go and explore a tower and Tokyo Big site-esque building which you can see far away
- the forest is well-suited for exploration
- the devs are putting effort into showing nice-looking grass and sunlight through trees
- in the city, Mario can jump to the ground from the top of a skyscraper
- you can also jump on/step on humans

The first detail is probably the best, I guess this means the game is unlikely to be delayed.

Are these mentioned on a site anywhere? I know they conducted an interview with Shiggy talking about the focus of the game but I didn't know they did a full translation of the presentation

Wait, does that image imply there are TWO different Mario universes/canons? I don't speak moon

It's talking about the two different directions the 3D games took, and how Odyssey is closer to 64 and Sunshine instead of the Galaxy games, which were more linear and eventually spiraled into the 3D Land/World games

Although that being said, Mario's universe reset at the end of Galaxy 1, so who the fuck knows. Sage for double post

So now that the humanoid Mario characters are blatantly not human and are a seperate races or some shit, what should they be called?
I'm thinking something stupid like "Mushian", from "Mushroom Kingdom" and "Martian" due to their big heads, short height and big eyes, and overall "not-quite human" appearance.

Plus

Minus

Damn you Nintendo, I thought after Breath of the Wild we would finally get the GTA Mario we always wanted.

I think the city is bigger or maybe expands as you progress/unlock more areas, since there are buildings in the distance when he's at the top of the skyscraper that he can't get to otherwise

fuck you you stupid bitch

Reminder from the last SMO height autism thread:

According to basic height comparisons in those charts, the two main princesses are womanlets by human standards, especially Daisy who's slightly-shorter and would only come up to a human man's chest. On top of that, they have almost animu proportions of head-to-body ratio and body shape, which exaggerates the effect and makes them even tinier in looks and presence.

And this is all assuming the human used for comparison is standing at the common baseline in fiction of 6' even, and not a short guy himself. It also assumes he's not being measured inaccurately, since Mario's clearly a foot or two ahead of him in the screenshot and might measure a little shorter if the two stood side by side. If the city man's actually a manlet/being measured incorrectly, then a typical human would absolutely tower over a girl from the wherever-the-fuck-Mario-takes-place world.

Meanwhile, space MILF is a freak who has lightweight human-ish proportions and height, but her head is a fucking huge mass that occupies as much space as most of a normal human's torso, and it compares to a human head side-by-side almost as unnervingly as a Sonic character's head does. Truly, a shit just as proclaimed.

SHORTSTACK/DWARF PRINCESS PORN THAT ISN'T JUST IMP MIDNA RECOLORS WHEN

I compensated for that when I made the comparison chart, and also compared it with other shots of humans and Mario from the trailer to get an good rough estimate.
Its as accurate as it can possibly be until the game comes out and we can actually extract the human models themselves from the game files.

This is already looking better than Sunshine which was an unfinished mess (still liked it).

...

How long till this gets taken down?

Are no new MK8 stages confirmed or is that just the assumption because we got no footage of em?
If its the latter than theres still a chance, I imagine they will reveal more content closer to the Deluxe versions launch.

Odyssey is looking pretty fun, all of Mario different movement options is really striking me back to 64 which is a really good thing. The Cityscape is unexpected and a bit odd, but it seems pretty fun seeing Mario jump around an urban environment. It reminds me of being on long car rides I would imagine Mario (or some other video game character) running around jumping all over the buildings (Either that or something like the Blue Falcon racing on the road next to us.)
I am also digging the polish I saw in the trailer. Mario's little movements giving him a lot more personality.
Feel like it was some pretty good decisions on Odysseys part.
Only thing I really want is some local multi-player added on that. Not sure how likely that is.
If I had to grab something from 64, I really want the courses to be laid out in a similar manner. Like multiple path obstacle courses, somewhat.

im wondering who the new last character is gonna be. i hope its the return of wiggler, i thought his anger animation after getting hit was a neat detail in MK 7.

The humans in Adventure games look more late-90s anime-esque rather than realistic looking (though that may just be due to the dated designs). It also helps that the Sonic characters are all anthropomorphic animals and not cartoony humanoids.

Peach's Castle isn't massive but it is detailed, interesting, and conceals some neat fun stuff over the course of the game.
I hope this city follows suit and at least delivers an interesting environment even if it isn't big, complete with an actual sewer and plumbing sidequest.
Seems like there are a few areas in the city block that will expand or are under construction, though.
Also, Mario lives in a universe covered in smog to the degree they built stratospheric skyscrapers to escape it. Let that sink in.

...

a sign of the end of times

mushlings

More like

A sign of the end of times.

So why the flying fuck is it not a launch title? How is it even possible to be this retarded?

3 new courses.
It's shit but don't be a goddamn liar.

There's 4 new battle mode courses but no new normal courses

Easy, Nintendo want people to buy Breath of the Wild, and they want to stagger releases to keep up momentum.reduce software droughts, Mario Kart 8 deluxe is finished too, so is Arms, but these games are releasing between Switch launch and E3.

Nintendo are going to have 2 million Switch's available at launch and with Breath of the Wild being for the most part the only game to buy it's going to sell for every Switch that sells, it's a business tactic that will work.

Because blowing the load all at once and having one cannibalize the other's launch sales is a bad idea?

There's a lot of overlap of fanbases between Mario and Zelda, having them release at the same time will either have people say they don't have the money for both and buy only one while they essentially forget the other,or parents only buying one because they'd rather pay 60 twice at the span of months/360 then another 60 later down the line instead of 120/ 420 at once.

Also they'd rather have few,but steady releases insted of blowing their afformentioned load in one go and having a drought after that.

Well put, user. Plus a holiday 2017 Mario game would be an easy seller, especially if they make a game + console combo.

What?

The women: legal lolis
The men: lol faggots

Holy shit, what fresh Hell have I walked into now?

I'll buy a Switch when they either bundle this and 2-3 other games for under $600. Before that, I shall keep my shekels, or maybe buy a second hand with a similar deal/price.

Game looks moderately fun

I wonder what that will look like.

Wait, so does this mean we'll be able to mark the return of the Half A press?

probably the same as jumping on all the friends in Mario games.

2dank

Cut content is the omnipresent "trashed good idea" people would rather harp as a negative rather than a lament for "what could have been".
For example the Caped King dude that was going to be fought in Dark Souls or the many, many interesting ideas that were scrapped in the development of Spore.

Everything has content cut/scrapped or revised because it wouldn't fit or considered too hard to execute properly due to various reasons:
Other times it's just faggots using it as a codename for "missed/unused potential" due to changes in development.

Not that it isn't a real issue in some cases and sometimes IS warranted but faggots like that user have essentially dissolved any meaning the phrase might have had around here.

true, this actually looks a lot more like the town from Sonic 2006.

Looks great. But I'm not buying a switch

90% of the time it's people deluding themselves into thinking they were robbed of incredible features that were planned to be there from day 1 of development because they found some developers test level in the fucking code.

...

MK8 has battle stages now, one of them being Urchin Underpass from Splatoon. There are probably more, but for actual racing stages none have been confirmed yet.

A tie-in to the movie from almost 30 years ago.

regular people
creepy alien life that parodies humans

Not gonna lie, this looks like a damn good new game just from what I've seen so far.

Shitendon't's making the biggest mistake not obviously selling the Switch as a bundle with it or BotW.

FUCK LORE WAS BROKE

...

The fact that it seems like this project is being lead by Koizumi gives me hope. I like the cheekiness of having the theme being journeys to strange lands, and having one such land be so similar to the real world.

I know that, smartdick.

>mario's rehased new gimmick is hats that give you specifc powers
Betting 6 gorrillion on this

- Looks bad, some worlds are intresting but Nintendo once again over did the bloom.

- Too realistic even in the other worlds shown.

- Hat better not have eyes, retarded, prefered Mario 64's moves

- Fantasy Environments
- Moveset and movement options

- Fantasy Environments

This

am I the only one that likes the eyes on the hat
made me think of old Rare as soon as I saw them

Waste of double dubs.

...

...

holy shit. GTA III had better graphics and that was in 2001. inb4 muh gameplay

Why does a 2008 game looks better than a 2017 game? GTA IV had more than one type of NPC on its city, have you guys seen the trailer for SMO in detail? The same two people with different palettes are copy-pasted everywhere. Also the texturing on the buildings looked pretty fucky, like Prototype.

I'm not going to buy it, but
Plus it's a cheap portable console, so there's obvious hardware limitations.

Modded PC version of a game with the city and its people as the main focus of the game enviroment
vs
Unreleased console game with the city as just one area of multiple different kinds game enviroments

Because we are now well past the point diminishing returns in the video game industry.

There's no excuse for it to look this bad when the hardware its running on is clearly capable of more than this.

The footage of the Crowbcat video didn't look modded beyond the Mario model.

Well, obviously you could attribute it to Jewtendo rushing the switch since the failure of the Wii U

No, doesn't look weird at all.

Uhh…

Had that ICEenhancer mod

They got even the fundamentals wrong though. That controller looks awful.

Read the description of the video, it says the iCEnchancer mod is used, which improves textures, lighting, and effects.

Well, i mean a modern smartphone with WORSE hardware costs like $500 new.

Still not an excuse for a 2017 game to look so bad.

Opps, wrong file.

Yeah, I agree. The art in the Mario game looks awful. Bad textures (like all the wii games had) and too much bloom.

Mario Kart 8 looked okay, if not too bright, surprised the Mario game looks this bad.

The same kind of movement (improved, of course), and the lack of a cap on your speed. The ability to surmount obstacles in multiple ways depending on your skill (i.e. walk through a dangerous area, or wall jump over it). I just want the same level of freedom.

This is the biggest thing. The style clash is just uncomfortable to look at. That could have all been avoided if they made Mario look more realistic when he comes to the real world.

I kind of wish they would go back to the late80s/mid90s era Mario artstyle. The tech at the time couldn't have high quality art, but these days it can.
It would never ever happen though, too much money and effort to have something like this fully animated, and probably wouldn't looks as good in 3d anyways.

QPU MISALIGNMENT INTENSIFIES

The excuse is that Mario is in an alternate reality that's presumably ours.

I'm rather fond of the early Mario art.

Didn't Miyamoto drew most of it

We can all at least agree that the best 2D Mario Game is 3 and the best 3D Mario game is Galaxy 2

You know I always thought it looked like Latin American cartoons.

Galaxy 1 had more content but i agree on 3.

Did it really? I always thought Galaxy 2 was just Galaxy 1 but with the whole concept more refined

You're both full of shit. The visuals look just fine.

I prefer 2 but 3 is pretty great too.

2 wasn't even a real Mario game, unless you're thinking of The Lost Levels

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Galaxy 1 was a larger game both on scope and filesize

That crazy mexican

Thats a really retarded way of gauging content. They could've used some sort of lossless compression on some textures for all you know. And besides, a 500 MB game can have tons more content that a 1GB game

What part of "scope" did you misread

it wasn't

"scope" is very vague user. I don't believe you

Just play both games and tell me which one feels bigger. SMG2 is more like cut content polished and shipped as a full-price game.

can you go to the left and right?
can you go
in a direction
other than forwards and backwards

I can't decide between 3 and World.

...

I know about Doki Doki Panic. Just because it didn't start as a Mario game doesn't mean that it isn't one after it was reworked. Even the original version had POW blocks and starmen. It was already part way an SMB game.

World is pretty good but it has way less content than 3 and is significantly easier.

That's because it was unfinished, Nintendo rushed the release for the SNES launch.

From the trailer it seemed that this city area is tiny, reminded me of the city world from N64's Duck Dodgers

Isn't that what it is?

Between that and the return of actual, unique bosses, I am cautiously optimistic. Looks breddy good for a console game, actually having shadows and moving grass and whatnot.

Other than the "real world" humans it looks pretty nice. I'm still not getting a Wii3. Not until it gets more games and they rethink the online deal.

GTA4 was the most expensive game ever developed at the time

Hope for an anti-gravity stage in Australia

There's also an old SMW hack by the same name.

So with Koizumi directing this there's only a few ways the intro can go down, so let me lay it out for you.
I've played enough Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, Sunshine, and Galaxy to know how it goes at this point.

I read somewhere that the rough translation for your pic was that the upper games were "linear" or something while the bottom were more open world (not saying it makes total sense)

Hold up. Do you mean just he can traverse that distance, or what I think it means and they removed fall damage?
Because having fall damage in a game centered on exploration of huge maps like this wouldn't make much sense. Falling in the middle of a long climb is a penalty enough as is.

I think that was the point though.
As in the entire joke is

People like me won't have enough fun killing ourselves if they removed fall damage.

Bowser and only Bowser, no Wart and no Tatanga.

who the fuck is tatanga

The realistic environment doesn't bother me, just the humans. It really is Sonic 06 level clash.

Fucking newfags.

Mario was human when I was a kid. Now he sounds like a faggot and is some kind of obese midget.

oh it's the fag from SML
well the game's already weird enough while having mario staple elements so kinda like SML1 or 2

You could just do what you do in Mario 64 and press B just before you hit the ground.

All it needs is songs like "His World" etc.

They should turn you into a pizza pie.

Wario was SML2, not SML

Tatanga is in both, though

and you derived this from my post how?

In order for it to be more like Sonic 06 they would need to release it right now instead of a year from now

How in the hell they fixed her fingers? The guy who ported her didn't even bother to fix that.

you mean super mario bros?

Well, technically it's 2 new stages were shown off (Battle Stadium and the Splatoon inspired Urchin Underpass) and 2 Retro stages, Luigi's Mansion (GCN) and Battle Course 1 (SNES).

Hopefully there will be more battle stages . . . Double Deck (N64) with antigrav walls and ceilings anyone? Or a stage inspired by the literal GCN/NDS from DD/DS that has you battling ontop of a massive Switch or Joy-Cons?

Also still no confirmation if MK8D will get NEW DLC stages made for it.

I'm gonna sound like a fag but I'm not buying MK8 Deluxe but if it got a load of DLC with new tracks I would consider buying it.

Block fort better be in there.

Also I am going to be mad as fuck if they dont add this shit to Wii U MK8.

This controller looks fine.

And do you want to play games on a cellphone? Smaller doesn't mean worse. The problem with cellphones come from their heat dissipation and it's size. If you count all the tech in the 2 joycons and screen that come with the switch, it makes more sense. Unfortunately you're just here to bitch and haven't actually looked any of this up.

Not to mention it's still 10 months out from release. Nintendo often reveals games when they're not polished. Look at a trailer in 6 months. Same thing happens everytime.

That's exactly what Odyssey is. The exact quote during the Direct was something like, "a sandbox game in the spirit of Mario 64 and Sunshine."

Damn, the other day I saw a great graphics comparison picture for 3D World, showing how the textures and everything got way cleaned up in the six months between the E3 trailer and release.

I want Block Fort too, but I sincerely doubt they're going to backport the stages and characters to MK8. I'm gonna pass on MK8D unless they add some more tracks. That could be seen as greedy - MK8 with DLC has 48 fucking tracks already - but honestly new tracks are what I enjoy the most in that game.
