Think people may over estimate it a bit due to it being the first HD Zelda that is not a remake/remaster. It's been about a damn decade delayed now. Seeing it in motion helps a lot, too.

When people say a game looks good, it either has really nice graphics/tech or it's aesthetically pleasing/consistent.

So yeah it's a visually stunning game considering it's made for shit hardware.

Nintendo can't just add more particles, effects and up the poly count to make it look prettier so they need to be crafty and push for greater care in the aesthetics department.

The "do more with less" seems to be a lost art amogst AAA game developers considering that most games that have come out in the last 5 or so years have been unoptimized trainwrecks.

It's shaping up well. Nintendo seems to have gotten their head out of their asses and the game feels like a melting pot of all the "good" trends in videogames in the last 6 years.

The overall style is great but it's ruined by several noticeable graphical downgrades. The lighting is the biggest culprit. Everything looks dull and flat in terms of color and the grass doesn't have that nice sheen that made it stand out. Stylistically, even Wind Waker looks better at this point.

I don't know, but every time I peek on Reddit they complain that the Japanese version shows too much emotion. Like, they're complaining that an emotional scene is too strong.

I don't know what it is with Western media and being too afraid of strong, defining characteristics. Movies these days all feature super-serious dudes who talk in monotone, and grey color palettes. I think it's highly reflective of our current standards and regulations right now.

I like the "dramaticized" wailing of Zelda in the Japanese version. It makes her a better waifu AND makes her seem more human. Fuck that obese American girl faking a British accent in the English dub.

But there are people who can enjoy a more cerebral approach to story telling in this entertainment form of ours. You just don't see them much in public.

Because having intense emotions in American media can be regarded as hammy. Therefore American voice actors often subdue the emotions in their role, leading to flat sounding performances. There's also the fact that some actors simply don't care and phone in a role just to get a paycheck.

Hearing Zelda's scream in the Japanese dub actually made me feel something, hearing her sob in the English dub gave me an uncanny valley effect because her sobs don't match the expression on her face. She looks like she's lost everything but sounds like she's just having a bad day in the English dub, it's a little unsettling.

The dialogue prior to Zelda having an emotional breakdown also has more of a quavering, sobbing timbre in the Japanese version, unlike the English version's flatter delivery.

It's all but stated to be the case in Wind Waker, OoT is the last Link chronologically and Wind Waker's Deku Tree mistakes him for OoT to the point he speaks ancient Hylian. It's pretty easy to recognize somebody who looks identical to their predecessor down to the last detail.

While a lot of Sith's problems stem from Lucas being a hack fraud, the actors tried to work with what they had. They had passion perhaps not talent, but the script was a soulless rag and probably limited the amount of investment the actors felt towards their roles.

LGunpei Yokoi was probably the driving force behind doing more with less. It's why Nintendo was usually about going cheap with the hardware and trying to find ways to make old technology fun. Calculator tech became Game and Watch, NES was crunched into the Gameboy. DS was the first successful touch based game console and Wii was Bluetooth/IR tech. That was really Nintendo's strong point and while Nintendo still tries to operate with Gunpei's philosophy, they can't really duplicate the successes they had before for a variety of reasons.

I don't get it, how many fucking Zelda games can they make? At least Mario can be excused as a game you play with friends that has no set story and Pokémon is just Pokémon.
