Let me tell you what the game actually was.
Basically all gear was crafted, which is fine until you get into that crafting was just 100% pure RNG. HQing stuff was neccesary but also an exercise in frustration, as end game materials only dropped by enemies with 24+ hour respawns.
The combat was a complete joke by today's standards and was designed to work on 56K modems. Melee classes had nothing to do a vast majority of the time other than try to fill their TP bar up by auto attacking. And even then when the TP bar hit 1000 you could do 1 attack. and this took anywhere between 30-50 seconds depending on your setup.
Balance was a complete joke with certain classes being able to solo most of the game while others couldn't solo past level 4. Rangers pissed money at enemies while delivering decent damage and having a majority of their inventory space being taken up by bullets. Good magic was drop only meaning you had to farm for hours. Which wouldn't be so bad if…
The game is 100% party designed, if you didn't have a dedicated group to play with you spent a majority of your time AFKing in cities looking for groups.

Basically don't buy into the meme, it's a horrible game for people blinded by nostalgia, it had some moments of brilliance, the area design was great, and the music and graphics were phenomenal for the time. Music still is. But everything else about it reeks of the limitations of the time and a bloated life cycle

I don't remember using a third item. The sight and sound is true but I think smell or detecting low health is the undead's ability. Still manageable if you a stack of each items which isn't too hard to craft too. As for NM parties I usually join a hunting party or as you said pay a small fee to join an already existing party. If you hate waiting there's usually an item of similar stats that can be found in the AH. It will be tough if you don't have any means of making money.

go down to achievements and then "battle" and see how close you are to getting the dungeon master achievement or which ever you get for doing 1000 dungeons.

Don't forget you also need to have done the level 60 class quest of a tank, dps, and healer class. Also need to have gotten 300 commends from dungeons.

I can't wait for more raids and finally access to Crystal Tower. After that I tore through MSQ all the way through beating Leviathan. Maintenance can't end soon enough.

I think the bosses of the Vault would lend itself well to a higher increase in difficulty. Leave only 1 safespot between the horses and make them move faster. Instead of 1 chain 2 chains.

Tanking and healing is all I do. I have not been able to get a single DPS class to level 40. I actually haven't played a healing class since getting Warrior to 60, in fact. Maybe it's because I don't have to worry about ripping aggro off the tank if I am the tank. Or maybe it's because I've never been able to get into the groove of a DPS rotation.

Try doing a 24 man raid 1 or 2 days from reset or anything with a dps race mechanic. Retarded dps are just as (if not more) common then bad and or dumb tanks/healers, only difference is that its hard to tell otherwise without a parser unless they are floor tanking or standing in lethal aoes or you have a feel for how fast the run should be going. I've had 50 dps summoners in fucking Autism Vale.

Pretty much this. There's shitty dps all over the place, but shitty dps don't usually cause wipes so you never notice them as much.

Summoners are under the radar but there are just as much if not more bad summoners than there are dragoons. I never ever see them switch their pet to the adds or other mechanics they leave it on the boss while he mostly is immume during such mechanics thus flat already wasting 30% of their overall dps. The fact that the class also has 10cds that need to be used correctly and dots that have to be timed properly it's a nightmare to have a bad summoner in your party.

any class or job at level 50 should be enough assuming you have cleared teh entire main storyline
that is plenty of time to do most of the game in.
solo play is good, you got a dungeon finder helping you get people to do stuff, Old players doing stuff will love you for giving them the first time bonus.
not gonna get that until level 50 and after you get to ishgard, Play bard instead they are pretty similar.
I dont know but if you buy through steam you have to buy all the expansions through steam as well.
