It's Far Cry 4 reskinned, and FC4 is FC3 reskinned.

Even when it got to 3&4 and the marketing seemed to make a big deal out of the villains, it's always been an excuse to shoot (or stab, in Primal's case) a bunch of mooks in an open environment that you can use to your advantage with some neat environmental technology in the background (the fancy water graphics in 1, the fire tech in 2, etc).

That's why I question letting the clearly slanted-to-the-left story of Primal ruining the game for anyone, because it should be a minor issue compared to how little the game has to offer when you compare it to every other barebones shooter with unnecessary crafting systems and open level "design" on the market right now.

When KF2 was in its early days, one of the first warning signs was that they were filling the game with disgusting dyed-hair, half-head-shaved, tattoed dykes as many of the characters (when the original KF spent most of its lifespan with no female characters at all, with all the male characters sharing the same voice). Then, in an incident that went down in infamy: Some fans of KF2 actually thought the disgusting tumblr dyke characters were attractive, and said on the KF forums that they were going to make nude/bikini models of them and mod it in for their server. Then, a staff member of Tripwire Interactive posted on the forums saying that they would ban anyone who did this and remove their server, and that they wouldn't tolerate this sexism on their game.
