Sega still did stuff like Binary Domain and Sonic Generations, Sonic 4, All-Stars Racing and I think they put out some Tennis games too. Like I said it isn't every game like Capcom was doing but they put out some ports with new releases here and there.

All I want is Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest on PC. I'd have no reason to invest in anything other than PC upgrades and handhelds ever again.

NGE gets the praise it does because it was the first anime a whole lot of people watched that was more complex than DBZ. It got insanely popular in Japan and because of that it was heavily promoted when it came to the west right when that first anime boom was starting up.

The reason why this is happening is a combination of stagnation, both from the hardware and from the games themselves. Think back to just 15+ years ago and all of the different franchises you had competing. Then think of how the dozen or so games that are played are on today's market. Games fluorished when you had 1 or 2 major quarterly releases, 5-6 secondary but major releases, and dozens of tertiary games that had a few entertaining gimmicks.

Each console manufacturer and the developers they influence are at fault. It should have been perfectly obvious this would happen but it's like they want to crash and burn under a pathetic ember of their own making. The next fault is of the publishers for constraining and acquiring so many IPs and ruining or never doing anything with them.

The final fault is from the ideological poisons and failed marketing exercises. All of the gimmicks, both ideological and for "entertainment" do nothing but hamper development through a pretentious facade. Before the SJW craze there was the Games as Art craze, before the Art craze was the Violence craze, but through all of that was the gritty realism craze that did nothing but water down games to dull paltry and poorly crafted simulations.

Things need to return to the varying freedom of randomness and variety. If things don't change soon, we'll see a stagnating death that never ceases until people forget what games were like before the mid-2000s. The ones who bet it all on a great crash and reset will never see it come because everything is on life support. The only silver lining I can see is that the entire market is so vulnerable and audiences are so starved for something new and different that a third-party can swoop in and deliver what people have been wanting for years. Whether it happens immediately or gradually or at all is a mystery, but it can happen. The old players have set themselves up for an insurgency the likes of the last presidential election where the outsider can play against all of them and condemn the old players for being the same, bundle them together and impale them, and succeed where they failed. No matter what happens, I will say: Video games deserve better.

No, a ton of games with an 'anime' artstyle are getting memed into steam by hipster weebs. By volume from japanese developers it's around the same rate per capita of nip games being on pc.

Recettear and other niche titles tested the waters for this, but it was mainly Dark Souls and Valkyria Chronicles that proved to publishers that Jap games can sell well on Steam.

I mean, there are a bunch of shitty RPG maker games but there were like 5 localized PC games prior to the 2010s if you didnt include capcom games.

This has been slowly changing recently though, Dark Souls 1 recently got an update to add a Japanese store description to the steam page as well as a Japanese localization option.

This looks pretty spot on to me, just also that there were a reasonable amount of Japanese console titles like Dead Rising, Dragon's Dogma, or Dark Souls that also printed free money when the devs realized they could just make PC ports.
