Video Games with a Sense of Scale

I want to play a PC game with a sense of scale.
Something that makes you feel like something massive is going on, not just something that tells you that something massive is going on.

Some things that'd be cool:
Commanding a giant thing, like a battleship, I have yet to play a game where a giant battleship is portrayed in a way that truly feels "big". Battlefleet Gothic Armada just has little ships you click, it's just lame

Commanding a giant army that doesn't just feel like a disposable blob like in most RTS games

Truly impressive exploration, not some artsy shit but something that actually makes you go "woah mang" because the world is so big and impressive.

The Last Guardian looks like something that maybe does this but well but it's a PS4 exclusive and fuck that.

EDF, Huge sprawling ants coming in more waves and actually HUGE fucking ships crashing down at a comfortable framerate even on lower end machines

Skryim

if you can call 15 fps comfy

It's 60fps unless you're playing on console, then it's not comfortable it's more like crippling framerates

Some parts of E.y.e

i get crippling framerates on pc. its all fine and good until someone launches on airstrike and a quarter of the city crumbles. not everyone shelled out $400 for a videocard

Scale as in physical scale or story scale?

Clickbait images always work…

Shadow of the colossus

That's a PS exclusive ins't it?

eemmuullaattee

How in the fucking fuck is the last guardian anything remotely similar to what you described? Sense of scale on the dog I take…
Anyway, nothing gives a feeling of scale on world size better than Outerra, there is something unique about the rendering and draw distance that no other game has… Then again, it isn't a game, so it doesn't count.
M&B is pretty good for what you want, you could also try with Total war games. EDF is always an option for scale and, as shitty as they might be, several missions have npcs fighting and chantting along your side. Jagged alliance 2 could work too, not the most straight forward scale, but the game feels big because of the amount of content. Had MGSV been more like PW and it would have been just what you want.

Daggerfall
Arma 3
Test Drive Unlimited 2
Fuel
Star Ruler 2

Does ARMA 3 have any single player aspect to it with bots or anything? I want to pirate it to dick around to keep myself from wanting to commit suicide, but obviously if there's nothing to do outside the multiplayer realm I won't waste my time.

You can get 60+ with a 200 bucks card that doesn't even require a big PSU. Stop being retarded, canuck.

Yeah, just mod in some user made campaigns/missions. It also has two its own campaigns and tutorial missions.

i get 60 fps but not when you're fucking firing artillery with 3 other people, stop being retarded

It does have a single player aspect to it, but the bot AI is fucking terrible.

In terms of looks it's pretty impressive and big imo. At least from the limited footage I've seen.

Thanks for the recommendations though

Well, if you recommend M&B and Total War, you might also recommend any 4X type of game or even Dominions 4.

The Last Guardian does have a really strong sense of scale. Especially in the final ascent, when you're climbing up the last bits of the tower, and able to look around and see bits and pieces of places you used to be thousands and thousands of feet below you.

But it doesn't fit in with any of the criteria listed in the OP, especially given that its all linear and limited exploration hiding under artsy shit

Kerbal Space Program with realism mods and realistic solar system is a real game with true sense of hugeness, if you ask me. Because you have real solar system with real sized planets, you can't have anything bigger than this.

You can have it at constant 60 as long as your computer has a dedicated graphics card from the last decade. My laptop without one runs it at about 30 FPS and the computer at my mom's house with an 8 year old card runs it at constant 60 FPS. I haven't tried disabling vsync on my proper rig to see how ridiculous the framerate is but it'd certainly be well above overkill.

Tell your friend to play Wing Diver since it's the only class that's fun without needing any cool weapons (like how ranger sucks until you get fuckoff-sized grenade launchers)

Would've been fucking Dragon's dogma if capcom didn't halfass it.

have you tried playing past level 2? because i assure you as you get farther and more cuhrazee weapons you constantly go from comfy 60 to buttery smooth 5 fps. i love this game but fps stability is a joke

I'm on level 40, the only times it dips are the instant that some gigantic explosions occur like when the big ravager UFO reaches 0 health in webm related (but surprisingly not when it hits the ground).

NEVER FORGET

its really only when cities are getting destroyed because for whatever reason building destruction is cpu dependant or you have a metric fuckton of enemies on screen and you haven't seen shit yet. start getting into levels 80+ and its like what the fuck is even going on

WEW LADDEH
THANK YOU TRUDEAU

Get a non shit CPU you pleb

...

it was an awful set of circumstances that got trudeau in. conservatives were going full retard while in power and the only decent alternative literally died while his replacement had no charisma and then the populace went full america doing the thing of "im just going to vote for who looks most likely to win as long as it isn't the incumbent party"

Its either going to be a localization of DDO or DMC5.
Even if its Dragons Dogma 2 it will never have all the features during its design phase.

Deep Down will be treated like fantasy Let it Die at this point.

Surge is jaw dropping.

that's my next upgrade goal, but it's quite expensive. By the time I get it it'll have a lot more good games on it though which is fine and good.

Morrowind sounds like your cup of tea.

Still can't believe Illusion is finally going to localize a game.

It won't, but anything that takes what DD does right and improves on it would be great. Simply finishing the content of the game and randomizing overworld spawns would be enough to make the game twice as fun.

so is this game ico but instead of a girl you have to protect a giant dog?

I don't know I haven't played it.

I don't know what to play I want an engaging game that makes me stand in awe of its scale.

Naissance or whatever has some fucking crazy scale.

Also Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt.

ARMA 3

The canuck better stay away from that, the game has bad optimization and relies a lot on CPU AMD single core performance.
Other than that, it does fill the bill for what OP wanted

Jesus fuck

Did OP seriously deploy a Jewtube tactic for replies? That's fucking cheating at life.

Are the environments destructible off the bat, or is that also modded in? I've seen a video or two where the buildings get destroyed, and it would be fucking awesome if that was not only standard but universal across all buildings therein.

Its the standart

For Bohemia that is

Elite:Dangerous was empty and boring as fuck, but it had the biggest galaxy I have ever seen in any game. I fucking loved that – I keep wishing there was another game with a galaxy that big

I haven't met a single person IRL who thought Trump would win. Even people voting for him thought he was fucked because the system is rigged.

The only people who thought he was going to win was Holla Forums.

I have not done anything clever in my life.
Until now.

Honestly though, I was literally image searching "vide games" cuz I didn't have a pic to post for the thread and I stumbled upon this juicy image and I thought hey why not.

Worked in my favor.

No Man's Sky.

I'm sorry.

Even has a YouTube filename.

It was supposed to say
>…CPU and single core performance.

The stupid phone changed it to AMD, which is kind of amusing considering what AMD has available at the moment.

This game was literally supposed to satisfy my every need. Sci Fi. Huge, awe inspiring scale. Exploration. Space ships.

But we all know what happened with that.

Why, god?

I'm just hoping some day in my lifetime someone will do a proper fucking job with that.

Can you enjoy this game unironically?

Well, as i heard it lacked quests and additional things to do except mine and sell shit, upgrade your weapons and ship, and then you get to repeat new galaxies over and over again with no real progression or story.

I didn't played it myself though.

No.
That's why I said that I'm sorry.
It's fucking shit and it makes me cry.

I played it for a couple of hours and by the end of it I was impulse buying rope and bleach.

Then I realized I need to live to see them lynched.

Nah, that's not a big loss. Compared to this. This was really cry worthy.

why did nobody make a game like that yet? Why did nobody mod Spore enough to fix it?

How are you going to make procedurally generated skeletons, that suit the creature body according to its limbs and behavior, and then generate animations based on it? When most 21 century developers struggle to release simple action games they redo over and over again like AssCreed or TES without bugs or with proper simple animation?

People don't want complex games anymore. They want everything to become symbiosis of the worst ideas, like call of duty+minecraft.

The day Star Citizen is "released" the world will see the first ever public execution of game developers by their audience.

I didn't follow this game untill i watched recent fail stream. I laughed my ass off and didn't understand what people found worthy of funding in it. Like, i probably completely missed a point somewhere. Just being able to land on planets and fly across the universe is not yet something complex to be proud off, you must build far greater game on that concept, rather than gratification of the concept itself.

No.

pleb.
orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/

Yes, buildings and trees are destructible. Problem is: they got predetermined destruction models. A building will always get destroyed and collapse in the same way, which gives you the "opportunity" to remember where holes will be, which gives you an advantage.
It's not a big advantage, but it exists and is rather infuriating when you take into consideration that this engine existed for many years and that the players have always wanted buildings to collapse based on the damage you do to it, and not the predetermined model.
Also: any lightsource will pass through buildings and terrain, but not through vehicles and players. This has been a problem since cold war assault.

Yeah, nah.

Not anymore, and hasn't been for years.

Orbiter is boring, since can't build your own ships, that's the reason why people choose to play KSP in the first place.

There was another game like KSP and Orbiter, but its only focused on space warfare for some reason.

...

...

You can build your own ships. You just need to git gud or download new ones other people made.

Torrent link?

Okay, John.

what does a failed gimmick have to do with
"I want to play a PC game with a sense of scale."

?

Depth perception adds a lot to the "feeling of scale". I shit you not.
Other than the resolution being crapped and hardware requirements being rather high given how low the resolution is, there is not much of a technical failure with this things. A commercial flop maybe, but only if you were retarded enough to think that this was aiming to be huge, they (media, companies, etc) only hyped it up in order to get as much people as possible to buy it and, within the able buyers with good enough rigs, I'd say they did quite well. Given the delays some people experienced on getting the product after having pre-ordered it, I'd say production scale wasn't set expecting huge demand to begin with.

Most 4x games make the armies seems like a disposable blob. M&B kind of does as well. The pre-warscape Total Wars are probably the best games out there for what OP is looking for. Dominions 4 could be what he wants, but he's probably looking to give the orders during combat as opposed to before.

BDO and EVE online, but I wouldn't recommend either.

...

What's BDO?

I played EVE for quite a while, I got bored with it and it doesn't do what I want effectively since giant fleet combat is… well, a laggy, time dilated mess.

No one has said Monster Hunter yet.
That makes you feel really tiny against the enemies, and 4U makes you feel like a pretty big guy when you fight the flagship monsters.

Black Desert Online. The sense of scale like the environment (and graphics) in that game are ridiculous but like any MMO is suffers from some serious flaws. It might be your thing though so you should check it out.

Is there a monster hunter game for PC? As far as I'm aware that's not the case.

I played a bit of it on PSP but that was a frustrating experience because I hate the PSPs control scheme so I quit very quickly.

Ehh… pay to play MMORPGs aren't my think but I like MMOs in general

Got this game during the Steam Christmas sale and tried to play it with 2 of my friends. Turns out there's no way to do co-op missions, which is pretty bullshit. I don't see there being enough content to even support a single-player game - like you said, huge universe with jack shit in it

Obviously you can emulate the games from PlayStation/PSP on your computer. Not sure how the 3DS emulator runs on MonHun3/4/G.

There is a PC game, Monster Hunter Online. It's an MMO that was only released in China. It has 90% of the monsters from the other games, save a few flagships, and also adds heaps of it's own monsters. It's got something like 200, probably more I can't remember.

Only drawback in the Chinese players and menus. There are other westerners that play it, and I think there's menu/message translation patches out there, so finding some other English speakers to play with shouldn't be too hard.

I've been meaning to get into it, but it's a pain in the arse to install. You need to make accounts with fake Chinese social security numbers and go through a fair few forms, so I just get bored and install something else.

Someone mentioned EDF. Does 4.1 have cracked servers? I assume if tehre were, an user would be hosting them semi-reguarly. I wanted to get into it, but I'm not going to pay based purely on anons telling me to.

I just want to tickle her knees

friend of mine invited me to a VR place for christmas gifts
we played onward

not much content but it was fun as fuck

Then pirate it and try it out in singleplayer to see if you like it before buying.

Minecraft looks stupid-big when using VR. Each block is 1x1x1m. That small house you made is now bigger than the one you live in now.
Every tower you ever built is a skyscraper.

Really neat with VR, one of the few things that was decent.

End your self fam

Black Desert is buy to play, there's no subscription. Plus, I don't know if it still is, but it was on sale a while ago for about 5 euros. It's still pretty cheap even without that

You never played any civ-like 4x games on marathon then. Units require payout in money, and aren't easily replaceable when killed, if their production time and price is skyrocketing. Losing high level unit, that was leveling up for quite a while, especially with attached hero or general, is like losing hours of progress.

Remember those initial E3 vids showing you taking off and flying right through the middle of a spaceship battle? Did that even make it into the final game?

As you journey through the world you get a sense of how great the task is you have to achieve because you can see everywhere from any location. Gazing up at the massive structures is intimidating at a couple moments.

A lot of the lore is also told through the environment rather than explicitly stated to you. It's a rather impressively well thought out dead civilization.

Honestly the only gameplay that actually felt big for me was Shekel Citizen. And despite their numerous controversies and questionable budget allocations I still think if they pull it off(which most likely isn't gonna happen), it will be a revolutionary game.

As to why I think they wont be able to pull it off, it's because instead of trying to make a game, they're trying to make space porn. Like NMS who tried to make space porn and failed, I think the same thing will happen here too. Or they might just implode before release and get bought out by EA or something.

Your friend isn't wrong, EDF is painfully overated here. It is ok at best

E.y.e. has that deep depth at some points.

Shill

The fleet in Nexus TJI didn't feel disposable, although it wasn't a very big fleet. It helped that the ships were distinct and specialised, and losing them meant losing all their upgrades.

Sounds like hipster artistic bullshit to me. Tha game itself looks like corridor simulator with nice scenery. 90% of what OP mentioned doesn't seem yo be there.

Im going to say dark souls, i have always enjoyed the sense of scale most of the bosses provide. The map as well, getting to firelink shrine and looking up at the top of the castle is daunting. Not to mention looking at different parts of the map as you progress.

And guess who was right ;^)

Arma is fucking terrible with bots if you're just playing by yourself and you don't have multiple other machines to offload AI calculations on.

To give you an idea of just how badly optimized this crippled shite running on an engine from the late 90's is, pretty much all the tutorial missions feature what is effectively a 20fps cap.

There might be some communities playing pirated versions of the game but don't quote me on that, haven't touched a3 in years.

Aren't they still running on a 32bit engine?

Trees and fences can get knocked over and smaller houses sink into the ground and then get replaced by a rubble model when their hp reaches 0, that's it.

igg-games.com/children-of-a-dead-earth-free-download.html

Its pretty small.

...

Can you elaborate on this a bit more? Is this all cut content?

Yes and no.
It was the original intention of the project which isn't exactly the same as cut content. Usually cut content is when you can clearly see where the game was butchered to remove something (ie: Unlockable doors, unexplorable areas of the world map, rather obvious voids in the story, etc). I don't think any of that ever managed to even begin to be made.

Tell your friend to fuckoff
