Admittedly I find a lot of stuff around Brad a bit annoying and distracting, for example his statistics on gamergate I never found particularly useful so I never cared, and I kind of brushed aside when he made his announcement on the book because Milo did the same thing and it went nowhere.

But it baffles me somewhat that people are surprised that his Book is going down this path: a more general overview of all the angles of gamergate and expanding upon them since he himself has claimed that gamergate is difficult to explain and report on. I really don't know what they were expecting. Sure, there are many ways he can still fuck up and we will potentially see this in due time but for now nothing he's done is terribly objectionable, and it's something I would expect from someone who generally has no horse in this race. The ESRB is still needed because… well, because parents are still retards for the most part regarding games and don't understand that sometimes you don't fucking buy GTA or whatever else for your eight year old kid, the same way you don't buy a 16+ film with gore and blood and violence for that same child. Honestly it seems like the ESRB is is alright, its not perfect and every person has a different opinion on games but without them we could have these people handing out ratings. They were backed by PTA and a for profit corporation that had people who thought video games are too sexy and violent.
The ESRB came out and said they were full of shit and they basically agreed with every rating that they put out and they ended up shutting down in 05. Without them then the government would have implemented government regulation back in the early 90's making this so much worse like the the comic code did to comics.
