I like some of the additions but like you said, so much of it is just bullshit that feels like it's put in to annoy people. Antibirth's alt path may be harder but you get extra items/choices for doing it. AB+ puts shit in like monster portals on floor one when your damage can be real shit, so enjoy either dealing with ten random enemies at once or being forced to take damage to nuke it down.

Antibirth's soundtrack is also infinitely better.

Admittedly many characters are mild variations of Isaac, but the more recent ones were very different in their own right, fueling new gameplay elements. Azazel was a high-risk-high-reward character. Lilith had a strong familiar and party theme going. The Keeper's coin as health changed how one saw healing mid-combat.

Apollyon has none of that. He only has one item that is a glorified D6. Liked the upgrade you found? Grab it. Didn't? Use Void to essentially turn it into something more useful like stats. That's it. Sometimes you get interactive items but because Void is a 6-slot item you do not want to use it willy-nilly, and besides that there is no core change to gameplay.

Yes, because it's impossible to, say, run into a room with multiple pedestals, like the Library. Or Boss Rush.

It's also impossible to get infinite loops, you know, like pulling in Forget Me Now, basically causing the BASEMENT seed in base gameplay.

Apollyon's Void can literally pull off shit that isn't possible for any other character, the problem is that all those things go off at once which carries some inherent cost.

Going into a Library and picking a book both increase chances of another Library appearing, which means that, with Void, you have huge chances of every Library book being replaced by items. Oh, and the fun of having EVERY BOOK AT ONCE getting activated when you Void.

Fine you little sperg. You play an isaac clone with an item that has fringe use with an upside that can sometimes break the game. It is still a shit update for everything else.

Don't forget creator-curated mod content being patched into the game officially every month for a while.

A final ending that conclusively shuts the door on the story (Isaac is hiding in the chest during an abusive marriage that he believes to be his own fault, the parents fail to find him, the game is essentially him having wild delusions within said chest)

Soul hearts are used to completely charge an item. I've only used it with her default 2-charge thing with a single charge. I don't know if it works with a completely discharged item or how many hearts it takes to charge more than one tick.
The Bloody Mary challenge doesn't start until the second floor, so be sure to stock up on hearts.

I don't like this game, it simply is way too repetitive for a roguelite. You get the same rooms constantly, same items even though you supposedly unlocked hundreds of them and same bosses over and over. Not to mention extraordinarily grindy, as it expects you to beat every boss/event with every character, beat the same boss/level 50 times like an idiot and stupid shit like that. RNG is a buttfucking as well, it's either "you snowball so hard everything dies" or "you suck so bad you can't deal damage and killing anything is a huge chore, better restart". Mega Satan is a fucking joke, I really expected something decent. Haven't tried this new expansion and hopefully never will.

Can confirm, the N3DS is somewhere around a friggin Gamecube in terms of overall power. It's more than enough to steadily play something like fucking Hyrule Warriors, even if graphically stripped (you can tell it's supposed to look better than it does for the most part) and with a few fewer enemies on-screen, it's definitely capable of playing something like Binding of Isaac if it didn't have fucking Nicalis spaghetti-code.

the furthest I've made without wizard mode is to the levels with invisible mystic frogs that teleport your equipment away and cast spells at you from across the map. I honestly don't know if there is any way to prevent this from happening past getting lucky with how close the mystic frogs are while having esp or infrared so you can kill them quickly and retrieve your shit.

Edmund defense force here, just wanted to pop by and explain the "time gated content" shit
The only intentionally time gated content in Afterbirth was the Keeper, because it was linked to an IRL ARG (since the Lost ARG was ruined by data mining in Edmund's eyes) that the community was intended to participate in. Edmund explained on a podcast recently that there was, coincidentally, a bug on launch that resulted in about half of the content in the expansion not actually appearing in game. The dev team made the mistake of taking the day off after Afterbirth's launch, and when Ed noticed people complain about missing items he figured they just didn't have them unlocked. By the time the devs actually noticed and were working on a patch the community was fucking livid, but they still kept mostly quiet due to not wanting to explain the actual ARG-related "time gated content." The big problem being that Edmund only properly explained this shit within the last month (and even then some of what I explained is conjecture on my part), but he did admit to fucking up Afterbirth's launch.

McFaggot has a real hateboner for dataminers. He had the unlock requirements for The Lost be some kind of big super seekrit that required you to die in specific ways as specific characters. You had to find clues for these deaths by dying in a sacrifice room while holding some useless trinket. Then people just looked through the files and found the solutions outright because fuck all that gay shit. Ever since, he's been eternally asshurt over dataminers "ruining" his faggy ARGs. I think there's some file in the game about a sprite for hush that uses some red skeletal face. He mentioned that the sprite was just a red herring for those pesky dataminers.

Now if he only put as much effort into making the game actually fun and not tedious as he does for making these shitty ARGs.

Add targeting rotation via a hot key. The upgrades shit was that I meant SS13 had a large amount of varied ways to upgrade your character. You could add this by players getting component drops that you can use to research shit in a menu between levels.

I would be fine and dandy if all it was was just "more stuff", but shit like vis sisters and enemy spawners actively make the game worse. And if they were just a chance of happening I'd be ok, but they are so damn common I can't stand it. Maybe if Edmund fixes it and nerfs them somehow I might go back but holy shit I mad.

Most everything is Edmund designed, the question is who decides how it's implemented. And if he isn't overlooking it, it's going to be some Nicalis programmer. The Sisters Vis design has been around in concept art for ages, so what probably happened is they threw it together from some sketches in the laziest possible way. Same goes for Big Horn.

Thinking about it, a far better outcome would've been for the new bosses to be implemented with the mod API. That way they'd have an excuse for them being janky as fuck and provide a functioning example of how to use the API. But that would involve making a sensible decision.

I still can't install Antibirth with a pirated copy of Rebirth. It just crashes on start up. One fix was to merge the antibirth and rebirth folder together, but that didn't fix it either.

Where did you install Antibirth to and with what? The .bat or the exe installer?

I used the .exe from mirror #1 and installed it to /Program Files (x86)/R G Mechanics (as it's a pirated copy)/The Binding of Isaac - Rebirth/

It created a folder called Antibirth with similar files to the Rebirth folder, but the .exe didn't work. Google told me to merge the two folders but that didn't do the trick, so I undid it.

You have to point the exe installer at a folder that isn't the Rebirth one (because that's intuitive right?). Try making an Antibirth folder in the /R G Mechanics/ and then install to there.

I struggled to get it working for three hours, but eventually just said fuck it and looked up antibirth in the qbittorrent search engine. The torrent there works perfectly.

I'm pretty sure the antibirth installer currently available just plain lacks the necessary files. The conversion needs a bunch of files in resources/packed to work, and the installer only puts antibirth.a in there. Just find a torrent of the full thing.

Those files are identical to the Rebirth files though, so I don't know why just copying them in there wouldn't work. Look at the modified date, they've not been altered at all.

There's just one mechanic I really hate though, they made it so if you have soul hearts and red hearts, and trade away all your red hearts through a devil deal, you lose all your hearts and have no health. It makes it so you just lose all your health if you want to make a devil deal and it sucks.

it's only if you take 2 heart devil deals with 1 red heart and it's there becaue the dev is a faggot who thinks "stan wouldn't let you cheat him like that"

They should've done it like the original, where you can get a "heart debt" so if you pick up a two heart deal with one red heart, the next health up you get won't do anything.

Soul heart deals are 3 hearts regardless of whether or not the same item would cost 1 or 2 red hearts. The proper solution is simple. If you have only one red heart, a two red heart deal should cost 1 red and 2 or 3 soul. Otherwise, you can't afford it.

The new bosses have been nerfed. Sisters Vis is easy, Big Horn is still kind of an ass but much less so.
Delirium isn't a broken piece of shit any more, and is probably easier than Hush if your damage is good.
The portals are still common. Supposedly they were nerfed slightly but I can't notice the difference. I didn't have much of a problem with them anyway.
The mod API seems to be improving a bit, but I don't have high hopes for it. The fact that it was so incapable at release shows what a mess the code is and I doubt they'll be able to implement most of the functionality that was hyped.

My only issue with the portals is when they show up way too well covered. There are rooms where the only way to hit the portal is to stand on a square right next to it while it spawns things straight on top of you – it's complete horseshit.

Outside of those specific rooms and them spawning unkillable mobs I don't have any problems with them.

The easiest way to balance them is to have the summoning damage the portal.

I like having stats hud. Missing hud makes game crush for me. Overall decided to do everything from scratch. Just unlocked d6 - with new enemies and little unlocks it's pretty hard.
