JRPG's that tried to be more like WRPG's

The Metal Max and SaGa games seem to fit the bill. Lunatic Down also caught my attention with the recent translation patch, but I dont feel like paying for the steam release.

The souls franchise ans Dragons dogma should be mentioned too. But I was searching for older examples.

That's literally how JRPGs started out.

JRPGs are literally based off WRPGs, namely Wizardry

Well I should have been more straightfoward with the premise of the thread

All the games I mentioned have a more open ended aproach than your typical wizardry-inspired dragon quest style of roleplaying.

Most open ended rpgs Ive know of are wester rpgs

You're going to have to be more specific. If you just mean open-ended then even FFXV fits that definition since you can bum around doing side-quests forever if you want. Might be better off making a new thread instead.

Chris Avellone says Chrono Trigger is one of the few JRPGs that's actually a true RPG. Take that however you will.

This isn't the codex, we don't masturbate to Avellone's every word.

So you mean open ended RPGs made in japan?

check your writing privilege

What are you, gay?

Xenoblade X is ostensibly an attempt to create an open world, sidequest and exploration-based wRPG. As is Lightning returns, though I didn't go very far into that one.

Well i do
He is among few current RPG devs that stays based

Is that why he's working for bethesda now?

A man gotta eat something

t. sellout

I don't know about trying to be a wrpg, but it is a Japanese boy band group going on a road trip though fantasy mid west America. What a weird fucking game, I kinda liked it

how many Metal Max games are there?
i recall the Snes ones, one was a remake of the other

You do not:
Create your character
Manage stats
Have alternative way to solve problems
Have dialog choices
Form your own party
In Chrono Trigger, it's not an RPG.

Chris Avellone is a sack of shit.

Returns is a remake of the first MM game on the NES

you have remakes of 2 and 3 on the DS

MM4 I dont know if its a remake or a new game

and then you have Metal Saga for the PS2

i assume the DS ones are not translated, right?

there are translation projects announced, hope they get going

also there is an aeon genesis translation of MM2 on the SNES sitting on 20% completion since the 90´s

It was essentially a linear jrpg with a large open world.

I fail to see how that's not like most wRPGs.

The closest MegaTen ever got to real roleplaying. The only one with a character creator and multiplayer, and far more gameplay freedom than the rest.

Sadly, the game's lack of story choices really hurt it.

Why the fuck isn't there an official SMT tabletop game yet?

Your logic is flawless m8. Next your going to say that affection mechanics in jrpgs weren't a thing way before this too.

t. obsidiot
how do jewsh's balls taste like fucboi?

Sounds like any modern "wRPG" tbqfh

Got a source for that?

Zill o'll is pretty nifty

Because I find him working for bethesda after everything they did to both obsidian and Fallout repulsive?
Your dumbfuckery is showing.
