I honestly accepted that I can't be an artist because of this. I'm not saying it would be impossible but it would be a lot of tedious work and training to make myself just draw a simple line that works instead of drawing a thousand lines and just erasing the ones I didn't like.

art classes are such ass to grade, i took a couple in college and as long as you turn something in, because art is 'subjective' you get an high grade and no critique. id rather pay a drawfag to teach me how to git gud 1v1 to draw my own stuff than pay 100k to a school and learn nothing but hugboxes and ass pats and what hair color to dye my hair this spring

Tips? Hum, I'm self taught too, but I think the best way to learn how to draw is to experiment a lot. If you like fantasy stuff, don't study anatomy first, or perspective, don't even try to follow a book like loomis or anything like that. Just draw what you want to draw. It doesn't matter if you don't think your drawings are the best, the most important thing is to have fun while drawing. It's kinda contradictory to say that, but you'll learn anatomy, perspective, etc faster if you don't give too much a fuck about those things.

I think the fun part of the advice is solid, and very important for starting artists, especially to improve their sense of gesture and proportions, and –in the case of fantasy– their memory bank of various designs (like period-specific outfits). However, I disagree with the anatomy one, and instead urge you (and everyone) to find fun in studying anatomy, perspective, and all that jazz, for themselves, as soon as possible.

Yes, you are right. I think didn't express myself clearly. I love to study anatomy. The problem is when people forget why they started drawing and keep only studying and studying. Look at Proko for a perfect example of someone that focused so hard on fundamentals that he simply neglected drawing from imagination and have no clue how to be creative. For a beginner, I think the first month or so should be focused on spewing all the contents of his brain, all the cool ideias he wants to draw on the paper, and only then he should start to study drawing principles.

Proko is an youtube art teacher who focuses his videos on teaching anatomy, proportion, etc. He did a live stream last month were he "taught" people how to draw from imagination. The first two drawings from pic related are some drawings without reference he did. The comic book is an gift he did for his wife. What's baffling is that he teaches gesture drawing on his channel, but he doesn't use it to draw. Fourth pic is an oil painting he painted. He can copy anything alright, know his anatomy and all, but if you take away his references, he is lost.

For the basic shape, just draw a curved cylinder (intensity of the curve depends on how flaccid/erect it is), increase its size a small bit near the end, then have it cone outward at the very tip.
I'm sorry how bad and simplistic these are, but I don't have a drawing tablet or a scanner so I had to draw this with my mouse.
