It's fun if you enjoy vanilla CK2. Because it's basically that with some flavor. I didn't realize how much I'd been itching for a new game in the Tamriel setting though.. This mod crashes to desktop constantly. But then again, so does every elder scrolls game.

I have thousands of hours in EU3 and HoI3 but I've never played CK or Vicky. I'm want to try them after all these years. Any pitfalls I should know about? This is from the perspective of someone that would push EU4 or HoI4 down a staircase.

Start Victoria 2 by picking some out of the way nation and just looking at the interface and finding where everything is.

Then start a new game as one of the good starter nations (eg Sweden, Brazil, Netherlands).

I'd advise installing HPM mod from the beginning, it's just better than vanilla in every way while retaining the same overall gameplay and feel. You don't miss anything by skipping vanilla.

Also, the getting sphered vs not getting sphered question.

When you're in an SoI, you have free trade with your sphere leader and possibly the rest of the sphere. You also have better access to their raw goods market.

This can be a good thing or a bad thing.

It will kill your tariff income or severely reduce it, which is bad for your economy. But at the same time you may have poor resources of your own, depend on the sphere resources, and if you leave the sphere you'll find your economy crashing as you loose access to that market.

So be sure to find out what your factories consume and if they are getting it from your land or elsewhere.

Imperialism is the name of the game in Victoria 2 so if you don't have the resources you need, conquer uncivs to get it.

Last of all that tech image is slightly wrong; Army Leadership should be marked red as it gives Military Tactics, having an edge in which can let you trash enemy forces and vice versa. If you plan do go to war it's really fucking good, and not having it will fuck you over hard. That's one of the reasons Prussia hits so hard early on; they start with Army Professionalism researched.

Damn, I wish I could use that mod but it's constantly crashing to desktop every 10 minutes or so.

Zero Escape isn't comparable to AA and DR, those two games feature a very specific setting, namely investigating a crime scene then BTFO people in trials until you don't find the killer – Zero Escape is a more generic puzzle/mystery game

It's hard enough to pick between AA and DR, the latter feels more like a game than a VN, but AA does the trial parts better – Cross-examinations beat every single trial minigame of DR, make more sense and work better in the context and require more attention from the player.

If you enable debug mode it will show the tag when you check one of their provinces. Else check the files.

I played a game as SA pushing my way north to snag some British colonies while bailing out Italy and my soldiers kept walking away from the front line for no reason. The only orders I gave them were a front line against the allies in Africa and a spearhead to Cairo which I didn't activate because the AI is brain dead and they would randomly wander off to some port in the very southern tip of SA even though they have no orders there and I already have those ports guarded. When they would actually sit on the front line they would insist on constantly shuffling around having all my men in the Kongo suddenly wanting to reinforce the Somalian front because all the divisions on the Somalian front left to reinforce the holes the Kongo front had just left. It was a fucking frustrating mess. I understand simplifying the OOB in HoI3 to just one general because the AI was too stupid to properly use OOB but HoI4 is just "draw a line to Moscow and watch the AI win the game for you". If they could just fix the front line AI the game would be playable imo.

I've finally taken care of my rival, Irileth. But now her son is voting against me. I may need to just revoke Valus from the Omani family and rob them of their voting power. But that will be tricky to pull off. The second vote against me comes from the Duke of Thir. I just angered him by removing him from the council. It's my third or so game, just pirated the latest DLC. What should I spend my army mana on? The unit variants seem like ass, gaining about 10 attack per 100 mana, and gaining a buncha penalties to non-attack values.

Unit variants are the only real thing to spend experience on, and they are quite good if you save up. I mean, doubling a tank's soft attack is nothing to scoff at.

By the time you actually build variants the game is over anyway, though, so I don't think they are a major part of balance.

Boosting attack is OP. Paradox is incompetent and made it so attack gets exponentially more powerful the more attack you have.

Been thinking about a nice way of implementing genocide to EU4, y'know for user's VeF edits. The last 'brainstorm' about revamping BYZ's retake of Anatolia, coupled with the expulsion (or rather reversion?) and nerfing of t*rks after each successful war against them got me thinking, could this culture change be done without adding a long and boring chain of events? Vanilla VeF has a 'culture spread' mechanic, but it takes years to complete; genocide on the other hand, is funner as it opens for more possibilities of realm instability, revolts and even wars against other countries.

The plan I devised is the following:
Simply put, it'll be just like the 'kill natives' option armies have when colonizing new territories. The event shall cost MIL mana and create unrest throughout all provinces of the same culture that is targeted for removal. Naturally a malus of taxes, manpower and heavy unrest will happen on all 'wrong culture' provinces, but at the same time with each province razed to the ground and depopulated from undesirables, you will get some ducats! And unrest will end after the undesirable are no more; countries whose main (or accepted) culture is the target for removal will also get a casus belli and relation malus (both for you and them, you gotta remove em all.) Perhaps I could also add a random chance of lowering development or even destroying buildings (if possible.)
After undertaking the long and tedious process of removal (which would last 1~10 years depending on how developed a province is, but would ultimately be faster than culture conversion), the province shall then turn into 'no culture' and obtain a very high bonus for culture conversion (so you can pick whatever culture you want to repopulate with the good 'ole vanilla 'change culture' button.)

Modifiers to speed up these genocides would be almost the same than those of VeF's culture spread mechanic: Development, accepted culture (or said culture being part of your culture's group) and neighbors having the targeted culture all slow down the process of removal; unaccepted culture, wrong religion, buildings such as courthouse and town hall, administrative and religious ideas (for wrong religion) will speed up the process.
Also, obviously BYZ, t*rks and the russian states will get an increased bonus when removing t*rks or steppeniggers; I mean, the ruskies did it, almost obliterated steppenigger culture, BYZ for delicious flavor and the t*rks, well, it's the roaches, we all know how fond of rape and genocide they are.

It wouldnt be realistic because ecuador was way too irrelevant and small inside the country (they didnt even have representation in the congress, wich was composed of mostly venezuelans and colombians), they were almost panama tier (ecuador obviusly being more important).
At this point, im used to see my country get continiusly fuckedd in all paradox game, like the HoI, where we where apparently fascist and helped the III reich in WW2, when in reality we were fighting against their submarines to protect our oil tankers.

I'm invading an alien system. My destroyers were wiped out in massive missile volleys and I only have 3/4 of my frigates left. I'm positive my fleet can take out their ships if they can get in range, but my AA is not substantial in this case.

To get by the massive initial missile volleys, I'm sending my civilian terraforming fleet out ahead of my warships so they can soak up the brunt of the attack. My warships will be providing area defense to help, but I don't expect any terraformers to survive.

My homeworld is out of resources and I don't have the means to quickly acquire them. I can either wait a decade before new destroyers are built and have difficulty mining (Which would allow the aliens to fester and grow) or I can do an all out attack with everything I have.

I will be seen as a butcher of civilians either way.

Green is definitely what I want for my borders, yellow is what I might include later. Most of the little states in green are my vassals. Taking Calais from GB has proven difficult because I'll have to invade that isles to get a high enough war score for them to accept, even though I can occupy it and they can never land an army. I'm mostly focusing on making nice borders, I also want some American colonies but we'll see what happens there.

I changed my king from Breton to Skeleton in Ruler designer, so there is that, but there may be some ways to change them in game I think.

I think you may need to survey the province of Korvanjund with your chancellor to get it, but it´s not confirmed. Similarly, you can find other artifacts this way (Amulet of Kings by surveying Sancre Tor for example).

You can play characters there. They added the Akavir Invasion as a bookmark, so you could start there as Akavir if you wanted. I've been playing from the first bookmark for a couple hundred years and Akavir really doesn't interact with Tamriel. I'm sure there's a lot going on there though. They have monkey people.

for vicki this guide really isnt that bad. just do what most burgers sperging over it cant and read it. Generally you will want to get as much bonuses to research as possible, then you can go for economy or art to become gp.

I just started playing the game. The whole thing is pretty intuitive.

My old nemesis, the King of Ebonheart wants to make me a tributary again. I captured a bunch of lowborns from his court during the war for Thir and was having fun mutilating them. Mertis always gets butthurt so easily.

Set tariffs to 100% in V2 until you have enough industry with the right techs, which is almost everyone before the 1880s, possibly even later if you're able. This will demote artisans to more useful pops besides giving you money. Education spending should be at 100% at all times, you can go without military spending so long as you promote soldiers occasionally. In smaller countries, it's best to manually trade clipper convoys and buy a large stock of them while you can, otherwise you may not be able to build transport ships when you need them.

Factory bonuses from NGOs are nice, but don't force yourself to build bad factories. Instead get the bonuses by building factories that are the inputs to profitable factories, glass to liquor, furniture to luxury furniture. It doesn't matter if they don't make money, the bonus to the more profitable factory will make up for it. It's best to have a factory ready for all military inputs, cement and machine parts for when you will need to make them yourself. Secure resources that you will need for your future factories in the beginning of the game. Rubber, for electric gears, and oil, for fuel, don't appear until later but are important to have for all late game items.

Hold elections every year and pick the stances that your desired party has, even if it doesn't exist yet. When militancy is high, you will be able to pass reforms you normally couldn't, do this to pass healthcare and education reforms. Suppress movements that you want to succeed, ie movement for better healthcare, ignore everything else. Those that you suppress will come back more radical and stronger. When you get a rebellion for a type of government you want, ie fascist or communist rebels, let them hold your capital for a year and you will adopt that government at the cost of prestige. Blobbing is for jerks. Instead of annexing, use the liberate country and make puppet casus belli.

This game has reminded me of how retarded EU3 can be. Otto had about four provinces in northern Italy for a hundred years so now there are muslims there. Austria recently took back all but one. Byzantium is still alive on the island of Corfu, Crete is Catholic but the island itself is Hussite, Hansa is Hussite but it's only province, Lubeck, is Cathar, and Oldenburg was Jewish for a while. No matter how many times I beat France they always come back like a tumor. Muscowy, Austria, and GB continue blobbing.

I'm planning on grabbing a moderate chunk of territory in North America but not much more than that. Almost all of my HRE territories are cored so once that happens I'm going to leave and take the rest of the lands that I want to round out my border in northern Europe.

Are there any better guides or videos on how to play CK2? The tutorial the game provides is really unhelpful.

Gonna do a South Africa game from the 1992 start. White Anglo primary culture and Afrikaaner accepted, with a decision to exchange them which I probably won't take.

Population is 4% White Anglo, 6.1% Afrikaaner, 9.9% Coloured, 8.9% Black Anglo, the rest various tribal groups. Higher education is 19% which is sort of ok; you can get higher ed up pretty fast in NWO if you take the techs for it.

Government is "Republic of" type which means a nationalist dictatorship.

Currently in the UK's sphere and will have to break out of it as soon as they get into a big war, since getting sphered in NWO is a death sentence for your economy (no tariffs, you just spiral into debt).

So, a few thoughts and questions:

1. Borders. What should my target borders be? I'm considering annexing the Bantustans and then taking Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe (RIP Rhodesia). Or should I just stick to my cores? Or blob as much of Africa as I can?

2. Immigration and demographics. Should I go for high immigration? In a European country I'd go for Populist Dictatorship (they can genocide, Nationalists can't) and aim for 100% pure, but South Africa can't do that being Nationalist, and moreover I already have Apartheid in place, so I wonder if I should just embrace that path, and let lots of immigrants in to build industry and provide funds for the white military.

3. Any meddling I should try to engage in abroad? Allies I should seek? Join UN or stay apart? Get nukes or sign NPT?
