While its early in the thread, a strafe jumping tutorial webm.
A common new player mistake is to frantically wiggle the mouse or to wave the mouse after each jump, without actually aiming for the ideal angle to keep the mouse at. Additionally, best acceleration is not based on how often direction is changed, its based on an optimal angle. This angle will be farther from the center as velocity increases. Direction switching is mainly re-positioning, to avoid colliding with a wall or falling off.

You didn't do badly. In the one match where there wasn't an experienced player in, you only lost by 4. And in that you sometimes gave a frag by being clumsy and falling off the map.
Play some CTS sometime- we even changed and played on a newbie friendly map for you. Improving your movement skills will help.

If you try to focus on improving you'll catch up to a good chunk of people. Just remember that this is a game about items and pickups and you'll automatically do better than a lot of the pubs that you'll run into. It'll take more work than just that to catch up to the regulars, but none of us are super-pro quake vets or anything crazy like that save for maybe 2 or 3 people.

Sometimes the server is empty but there's really no shortage of players in NA that don't time items so if you go through the newbie guide in OP, get some of that stuff down, and time items you'll pass a lot of players pretty quickly.

Probably would be easiest to change which monitor is the primary display in whatever operating system you're using. If apropos command and some keywords don't get you anywhere then definitely ask the IRC.

Verified RQ's would be forfeits. The line about full matches refers to other people hopping in (if someone forgets to swap to duel for whatever reason, and because we used to not actually have a duel mode on the server, just a +duel vote)
Honestly the ladder is at least partially for a sort of pseudo-matchmaker. If we can get more participants it'll be easier to figure out where people are and match them up with good practice partners. While the rankings are a good sort of motivation, as far as I'm concerned they're secondary to finding good matches for people via a system that isn't dependent on one or a few people being on pretty much every night
I'll probably go through and edit the rules again for clarity. There haven't been as many questions lately so I haven't touched it
It's behind features such as votable and customized game modes, some experimental balances, tweaks for defrag, etc. Might be of use to the server in Latvia. Hope everyone had a merry Christmas. Maybe we can get some matches organized this weekend if everyone's not busy for the New Year celebrations.

The server now has an irc gateway for the meantime. It is currently connected to QuakeNet #xonotic.na. IRC idlers and players can chat with each other. Additionally when matches begin are reported to IRC- though I haven't yet got it to report exactly when someone joins and leaves- and I think it can report the scores of a match.
Let me know what you think, whether to turn it off or leave it on.
