Honestly farming is the least entertaining part of the game. If you really want to advance farming fast just setup your crops and then skip the rest of the day. You can also make absurd amounts of money doing this. Just make sure you have all farming areas unlocked before you worry about farming.

I like it's benefits like realm peace and the law voting is pretty cool how you can bribe favors, I also used favors to force marriage alliances with filthy barbarian buffer states. It does have its cons though as some of my despots get buttmad of trivial bullshit
