Desert Music

We had a thread for winter music, how about a thread for desert music?

Strikes me that unless you straight up go for "desert level" or "egyptian/arabian" sounding, it's a bit harder to actively pin something down as "desert" in tone (at least compared to winter music). Hell, looking at Wild Arms 3, that game takes place in a world that's mostly rocky wastelands and shithole sandseas, but off the top of my head, I am not entirely sure I would call any of the music "desert-y" in sound, beyond maybe "The Weight of a Heavy Life the Meaning of the Meaning" which has a latin sort of vibe to it.

Fourth time trying to post this. The fuck does the site want from me to not lag out at 100%?

That's because the soundtrack is generally more "western" (cowboy) than "desert".

...

...

Yeah, that is a fair point. And outside the overworld, most of the dungeons are in old ruins, shrines, caves, and buildings, which are not exactly Egyptian or Arabic in style (the shrines seem more like old Elw shrines from WA1), so having windy or hot-sounding desert level tracks wouldn't exactly make sense for those, I suppose. Or if it had been the other way around (more desert than western in tone), having that many desert level tracks would probably get either old on the listener, or annoying to try to compose a big enough variety of so they didn't all sound too samey.

Fifth time trying to get this to go through. Fix your shit, Codemonkey.

And of course I forgot the embed.

Is it cheating when the entire game takes place in a desert?

Theme of Anwar the heartless.

Depends on the style, I suppose.

...

I rather liked how Tales of Vesperia had a separate take on the prior track for when night falls in the Sands of Kogorh.

I really do have to say I like the arrangements in that Rocking Heart album.
>tfw seeing comments on youtube on some of the song uploads calling the album sexist.
Absolutely ridiculous, considering its counterpart album, Feeling Wind.

...

What did she mean by this?
And why is she so perfect?

...

...

...

I'm pretty sure that isn't in the game.

They meant more the album art, but the comments were general "this album is sexist" stuff (my own reaction upon reading them was the same as yours; not like that album blare's Moonman's Femimassacre). The claim being that the Rocking Heart album art only has male characters on it, with Jet being the stand in for WA3 since Virginia isn't a boy, therefore, it's "sexist." That completely ignores that fact that, aside from a couple of blue rodents, the Feeling Wind companion album's artwork only has girls on it, ergo, both balance out.

It's been a while since I last played Golden Sun, but she is quite prone to complaining about the state of things while in the desert, particularly the state of her clothes. Of course, given how people have been digging into the English script's accuracy, I'm not sure what she might have said in the Japanese script for those complaints.

The priest grind

it's probably something that creep amtower added

Just look for a gameplay of the first game, I replayed it a year ago and it's there

Maybe they're saying that having the boys rock and the girls feel is sexist. It's still retarded.

Rap is but let's see the SJWs go after it.

Nah, those lines had some serious dependencies, but nothing about sand.

Are there any other games where you need to protect yourself from heat in the desert?

I assume if they were more aware of Feeling Wind, they'd bitch that the girls are on a single tiny piano rather than each having their own instruments like the boys do.

If it is, it's rare. I don't have a file directly at Lamakhan desert (might be wrong, but going through that desert if you backtrack after clearing it, isn't the heat gauge nonexistent, or am I confusing it with Tales of Vesperia's water gauge?), but watching some footage on youtube, Mia says nothing about sand being somewhere.

I actually recall reading the same line when I was a kid playing the game.

Tales of Vesperia's Sands of Kogorh. The heat during the day poses a big threat to exploring it, though when night comes the water consumption is much less of an issue (the enemy elements also change from fire aligned to water/ice, being that deserts can have vast differences in temperature). Each party member gets a canteen (which you can even visibly set on their model), and the party uses their Sorcerer's Ring to blast cacti open to refill their canteens.

use your imagination

I swear I remember she saying that line when I first played and when I replayed it, hell I remember being surprised she really said that since I only had vage memories and I heard it on the internet. maybe it was only on the european version? Fuck it im downloading the game

...

may be a line in gs2 or even something after the desert.

Nah, I got those screenshots by backtracking all the way from the end of the Venus lighthouse

I should actually finish 失われし時代 sometime (saved before the final boss), but I can't figure out how to hack Read onto Robin or Garcia and I wanted to compare that hidden dialog.

I think it was only the Lamakhan Desert that had that heat mechanic which had the characters verbally respond to their annoyance. The other desert in GS1 had those vortexes, and if memory serves in GS2 you had to ride sand rivers.

It might have been on the other desert with the sandstorms, but that script doesnt show any lines for any characters
Visiting both levels is a lot of gameplay but the curiosity is killing me now. Backtracking on a finished game file doesnt work, if I remember well those dialogues only appeared the first time you crossed the desert. It might be that it only appeared on the eu version if onyl some peopler remember that line

were there even any deserts in video games after the n64?

...

At least I got some laughs doing all the digging

Is it Mia or is it Sheba in GS2? I remember the line vaguely, too.

This thread was something about deserts right?

Yes, but only on the last part of the game and the old party doesnt talk much outside dialogues. It might have been a girl from gs2 but I remember Mia for some reason, I'll look into it

While I'm certainly not complaining, I have to question why someone would dump the entire script for a game, complete with context prompts, especially if it's already in English (dumping a Japanese script for the sake of comparison, or to perhaps garner a fan-translator strikes me as more reason).

Wouldn't the PAL one have likely just borrowed the existing NA English script though, maybe with some spelling tweaks?

Seriously?

This was back in the days before Youtube.

As for a Nipponese script dump, there actually is (or was. It seems to be down now and I'm not sure if that's permanent or not) one.
homepage3.nifty.com/apple62/serihu/golden.htm

The main thing I can think of would be if it was Sheba or Jenna complaining since the party does have to wade through a waist high sand river in TLA, but I can't recall if they actually remark on the situation or anything.

Really, a line like "I got sand in my…" strikes me as more suited for a Tales game of some sort, as those tend to utilize the T rating be a bit more risque and open to mocking stuff via skits. Like in "I like it!" the party complains about Rita for using fire spells in the already hot desert, only for her to get all flustered and finally exclaim that casting fire makes her feel good inside, basically admitting it gets her off to the point she can ignore the temperature

...

It was more subtle than that, I dont know in which game it happened but it was there. This is really killing me but I cant find anything on the scripts, they are massive and I dont think searching Mia sandy cunt on google will have relevant results

...

...

yeah. i mean youre posting pokemon which is a gameboy game. even if its gameboy 5 its still just gameboy

...

Thinking well, I could literally post the entire Nightfall soundtrack and it would be related.

...

Desert themes? How about rescue themes?

See, that was my other thought: is it a line in Symphonia? I don't think so, but Sheena could have said it at some point. Wouldn't put it past the clutz.

...

Good old RBO.

...

Still counts as desert music if the subject of said music is a dune coon, right?

I think the reason I like rap as much as I do is because it's able to get away with way more shit.

RASHIDOOOOOO

So this is the aussie christmas thread?

...

...

Sandy Plains is by FAR my favorite area theme in the whole franchise.

Runescape had pretty nice desert themes.

Okay, what gen do you think Tales of Vesperia up there is from then?

I can't remember Clutz saying anything of the sort; worst I can remember she said was admitting she was an ironing board at the hot spring, and aside from that she acts pretty damn innocent. Most of the lewd comments in the game were left up to Zelos, who was usually intentionally saying stuff like that to annoy Sheena, or try to poke at Lloyd to see just how daft he is. Like bringing up the notion of fooling around with his honeys in a zero gravity setting.

Then there's Bravely Default, which had an all around great soundtrack too.

Have an entire soundtrack of a game no one played.

best tales

Not sure if this one counts, as it's not necessarily the theme for a typical desert like >>11483546 are, but rather a deep and winding canyon cutting through an entire continent of barren rock. "Last Frontier" indeed, there's not even any form of human habitation on it between nothing much growing there and having monsters capable of wiping out entire expeditions to explore it.

It's certainly a favorite of mine, along with Eternia and Symphonia.

I played it and enjoyed it, but stopped because I moved and had nowhere large enough to play it.

What the fuck I hate Golden Sun now.

Pokken's soundtrack is amazing, honestly my soundtrack of the year.

Only has 1 desert level though.

I'm surprised the Lynari Desert's theme hasn't been posted yet.
I'd say it's unique in that it doesn't take extensive cues from Egyptian, Arabian, or American southwestern music

Say what you want about Censorblade Chronicles X but some of its music is pretty good, especially the Oblivia theme.

I wish we'd kept audio uploads from next.

Ye-

Nobody claimed he wasn't cheating. It's in the title of the video.

You are implying too much.

If in doubt reinstall your gpu drivers. There could be a million reasons why the game is unstable for you and tracking down the exact cause might not be easy.

One thing I would do is free up as much system ram as you can when loading DX12 (i.e close all your furry porn browser sessions) just in case there is some shenanigans going on with your ram and windows page file.

On purpose or not it's still funny.

Funny thing is that it actually was a platformer, but the developers changed it to a point-n-click at the last moment.
