It reminds me of that one subway product placement thing on i think csi miami.

Probably not entirely product placement, but I recall seeing some "magic book" type enemies in the Wild Arms series that look suspiciously like low poly renders of strategy guides (probably moreso the ones Japan saw) for the very games in question. Wild Arms 5 also has what looks to be suspiciously like a doujin involving Yulie from Wild Arms 4 on the ground in some Gob infested ruin (Gobs like porn, I guess) that Rebecca flips her shit over, but I have no idea if the cover is based on an actual doujin (you can't read of pick up the item in question, though it gets any entire scene devoted to it), or just Media.Vision acknowledging that their series is popular enough to get fanmade hentai. Certainly had a different vibe to it than the usual dirty magazine bonus bosses, given that the character on the front is recognizable to fans of the series.

I would argue that it's when it feels completely and bafflingly out of place, risking breaking immersion. Such as how FFXV has fucking American Express in it.

From what I've heard mentioned in other threads, isn't the Cup Noodle brand not even available in the west? If so, it utterly fails at promoting anything to western players, and instead comes off as being played so ridiculously straight that it actually becomes kind of funny. Not that it excuses it being done in the first place.

Tony Hawk games had advertisements everywhere for NOKIA. Never felt obnoxious though since skateboard is highly advertised to begin with.

FF usually has /fa/shit product placement tracing back as early as FFVII in which the guy you buy the dress off of names a real designer in the french translation.
FFXV has both good and bad product placement
for instance, Luna's dress is made by a real designer with a real store that looks a lot like her irl stores and it makes sense within the story(they may have even mocap'd her face for that shillary stand-in character), but brand name cup noodle and AMEX - gil edition just seem out of place.
I actually like Nomura's designs and LV was inspired by him when making clothing for lightning to model, imo it's a case of vidya and fashion coming together and not something blatantly shitty, kind of like if a vocaloid game used real vocaloid software to synthesize the voice actinghave any miku miku games done this?.

I'll give you another case of over the god damn line. They use clips from duscae to show what happened in the world your main characters were at when they could have been shown in gameplay. They make watching the movie therefore making outside media marketing mandatory in a game to understand the story mandatory which makes the story a fuck you to me.
