RTS Thread No chart in OP Edition

It's that time again lads.
What RTS games have you been playing recently?
What are your favorite RTS games?
Where is the RTS genre going?
What are some good mods for RTS games?
Talk about RTS games and argue autistically about them below. RTTs are allowed.
Fuck you.
Also I didn't mix up the Name field and the Subject field when first making this thread, that DID NOT HAPPEN.

I'm been thinking about BIG UNITS around the DoW3 shitshow.

There is something about the new ones that I cannot accept. Check gif1. This is the heaviest eldar unit on the field. Giant, imposing, supposedly slow. Then bam, it's doing leaps and slides forward. It really irks me.
I can look back into dow2, I can tolerate the unit charges, I can tolerate heavy units speeding forward and smashing things. They are after all heavy units. Yet none of them could leap. This makes them feel like they do weigh a ton.
Then you have DoW3 and units are just jumping around. And not the heavy vehicle types, but the superheavy ones. Such shit just blows any immersion I have out the window.
Is it just me ? I see this like a galactic colossus, a wc3 mountain giant doing 600 range leaps, an ultralisk or aoe elephant doing leaps. It feels so off.

except that Eldar titans have been able to do that sort of stuff always. Cause they are giant elf walkers and super advanced to powerful for you.

So yea I see no problem with that in universe.

Maybe it's just me. I find it incredibly odd for the biggest unit in a game, where it's smaller counterpart couldn't pull it off.

It looks like the size of a wraithguard at best.

Fuck, meant wraithknight.

It is honestly just the differences in the tech, the imperium is not as advanced as the eldar and has always been defined by big hulking units.

It applies to eldar titans as well even if it is a wrathknight. Been a long time since I have even glanced at Eldar stuff tbh. No one in my store plays eldar so have not payed attention to their releases in years.

I think I'd be rather hard pressed to find something in DoW3 that didn't profoundly disgust me. From the moment I heard they were looking at league of legends as a design inspiration I knew it was beyond redemption.

Just draw purity seals all over the CD.

I'd be fine with them being agile, but those animations look wonky to me.

It did cause a lot of butthurt didn't it?

Command and Conquer 3 wasn't all that bad, you are exagerrating for those nostalgia points. Prove me wrong. Protip: you can, but without resorting to "they changed it, now it sucks"

Video game not so good since being changed by EA.

CnC3 was pretty neat, especially Kane's Wrath, it simply isn't on the same level as shit like Yuri's Revenge and Generals

It was great, a bit off-balance, but I don't get all the hate

I've been trying CoH campaign. Being into base building and resource collecting into making armies efficiently this is not as fun as some other games. I like WWII though so this is quite enjoyable anyway.

I liked Red Alert 3
Bully me

As rightfully pointed out, Eldar Titans always were supposed to pull of ninja shit despite of their size. For comparison, their super-heavy Cobra tank can move at 280 KpH (although it only moves at 60KpH while in combat).

I do agree that they jump sequence should throw up a little more dust, though.

Actually that makes sense in-universe although whoever thought that jump looked good should really kill themselves

It really is going to be LoL with extra units you can command

Red Alert x Tiberium mash up never ever.
And no, fuck that shitty mod.

Even though you did not ask for it, I shall gallantly serve as your anti-bully shield!
I enjoy Supreme Commander 2

What is wrong with W3D?

The balance.

Nah, CnC 3 was good, for what it set out to do. Which was EA™ Cinematic™ ARR TEE ESS™.

Of course, EA, being the filthy jew they are, wasn't satisfied and forced Westwood to shit out the abortion that was C&C 4.

There is no such thing as CnC 4

Wanna know why it was so shitty? CnC 4 originally was set to be a multiplayer-only spin-off based on CnC 3 for the Asian Market because EA wanted to one-up Blizzard on the Korean Shekels before they could get out Starcraft 2

As if that alone was not retarded enough, they decided that, hey, why not cash in on the western audience too, and slapped a poorly and very hastily made singleplayer mode onto it

EA, YES

Even Renegade X, which has even worse balance, manages to still be a really damn good game. I just wish that they finally made Tiberian Sun X a thing rather than having Tiberian Sun vehicles come from those shitty boxes.

And there was me thinking that DOW 3 couldn't disgust me even further and then all of a sudden, poof there is that.

moddb.com/mods/the-dawn-of-the-tiberium-age

Now kiss you fags. I also enjoyed RA3 to a degree. Shame they fucked up balance in Uprising.

Uprising IIRC didn't have multiplayer, so all those obscenely overpowered units didn't really matter unless you want to play Skimish with AIs that invariably use the same tactics

Coming up with tricks to beat all Commander's Challenges in par time was neat, though

That wraithlord is a fucking LoL character.

God fucking DAMN IT.

WHO IN THEIR RIGHT FUCKING MIND TOLD THIS STUDIO THAT normalfagS CONSTITUTE THE WH40K FAN BASE???

SOMEBODY KNOWS

WHO FUCKING DID IT?! WHO!? I WANT A FUCKING NAME!

Sega plus Jew's Workshop. Especially the latter, seeing how Age of Sigmar was a total shitshow but they still want that sweet 12+ audience.

Here you go

This is the Dina Disaster all over again.

40K End Times soon
please kill me

Not gonna happening. 40k still rakes in enough cash of its own, plus they already brought back Matt Ward to rape the game to death

They're already starting to move some pieces into play for it like with the recent campaign thing with space wolves+dark angels
I don't think it's gonna be "soon", but probably within 5 years or so, especially since GW has lost a lot of their former monopoly position in the miniature market since 08 and even before

Why has no RTS surpassed Forged Alliance still?

Why the fuck hasn't any "modern" RTS sought to outdo the classics and bring in stuff like Earth 2150 did with underground fighting and terrain deformation

I think AI war has in many ways, but you'll be disappointed if you don't like co-op only.
Supreme Commander 2 did in a few ways as well, but it is more of a sidestep since it loses some other features in the process.

Honestly, underground fighting really was just a gimmick outside of campaign mode (Earthquake Generators a shit), and terrain deformation more than often saw your own construction vehicles immobilizing themselves while digging trenches or constructing buildings.

CnC2 had terrain deformation via artillery though, and the glorified tech demo From Dust is all about it. As was Popolous, back in the day.

On the mechanics side, it borrowed too much from modern state of RTS, which was determined by SC for years by that point.
I hope I don't need to explain why what they did to the setting and continuity is bad in a thread like this.
I do like the game a lot, it's just not a proper sequel to TibSun.

what?

SC1 became very popular long before C&C3 released and it remained popular more or less until C&C3 released. There are other real-time strategy games but none made such impact on the majority of those who called themselves fans of RTS genre before moving on to SC2 and MOBAs as SC1.

Still, I'll have to ask you to do just that. Was it because of Scrin getting a role as full-flegded third faction?

Honestly it seems to me to be a good idea gone horribly wrong. A unit like the wraithlord should have lots of abilities like that, but most should be something the wraithlord does automatically with the exception of one or two abilities. Sort of how the orc hero unit would grab somebody for an insta-kill, but had the rallying cry ability to. Seems to be a case of missing the point of the game entirely.

I'll agree they do tend to be gimmicks, but it's the whole aspect of trying something new/improving on the formula rather than the modern rehashes where content that was in a game a decade old has been stripped out

Tiberium infestation. In TibSun we get various weird lifeforms, pretty much forced evolution into some completely new direction. We get mutants and hits of even greater changes the green crystals can bring. It is even the central theme in Renegade.
Then comes TW and everything is thrown out of the window, all technological advances Nod had (fucking UFOs as main fighter/bombers, man, not to mention stealth, subterranean vehicles, more stealth, cyborgs and even more stealth) are "lost" while GDI pretty much just stagnates without capitalizing on Kane being gone again and Nod being in complete disarray.
Scrin were mostly the icing on the cake in how generic they are. Alien bugs. They are mechanically well-done, playing as them or against them is well and good, but alien bugs. In 2007.

>and hints of even greater changes

While I agree that lack of mutant lifeforms is dissapointing, one could argue that a lot of the cool stuff was brought back in Kane's Wrath. Scrin, however, are a difficult case. Since the game states that it was a mining expedition sent to Earth, you can imagine Scrin military proper as whatever you like.

Not saying anything bad about KW. It's the first C&C game where Nod wins, just let it sink.
I can imagine a lot of things, but this doesn't change the fact that Scrin that were so hyped up during TibSun are now just alien bugs.

One of the biggest giveaways is their need to establish some sort of gamer cred. There's no real need to brag about skills or hobbies; you either enjoy the community or you don't. Reading their blog is like getting a seven course meal of bullshit shoved down my throat. Fuck em and fuck their beta orbiters.

Well, I suppose energy beings or ayy lmaos a-la Independence Day could've been better choice. And your mini-rant has awoken a new desire in me. A desire to write a pasta about humans complaining about being stuck in a galaxy full of bland, bog-standart sci-fi races.

But what if we really are stuck in a galaxy full of bland, bog-standart sci-fi races?

In the last thread I asked about unique innovations in RTS games Thanks to the two user's who responded to the question. Here's a short list of innovations/ideas from lots of RTS that you don't really see in other RTS games. (Not all of these games are perfect by the way, remember that.)

Perimeter once described as self-appointed rebirth of the Real Time Strategy genre
-Terraforming and terrian deformation.
-Only be able to command five squads of three types of 'specialists' - Soldiers, Officers and Technicians - which are able to morph into different units, if the squad composition matches the requirements for that type of unit.
-Could also activate a massive defensive invulnerable perimeter shield that drains you energy resource

Maelstrom: The Battle for Earth Begins
-Terrain deformation (though slow) and water physics. Can freeze/melt water. Can create tornadoes, control wind. Use terrain to build walls. (Can do things like freezing the aquatic alien race while they are submerged).

R.U.S.E.
-R.U.S.E. employs a system of ruses that allow the player to fool or bluff an opponent. The ruses are divided into three different categories: those that reveal information (such as Decryption), those that hide information (such as Radio Silence), and those that allow for fake structures/units, designed to trick the enemy (such as Decoy Offensive).

Metal Fatigue
-Three level warfare of underground, surface and orbital
-Can fight with giant "Combots" which can be customized with different components, can be have components salvaged from the enemy and can be reverse engineered and added to the players tech. Combots can also fly between surface and orbital layers.
-Terrain can also block projectiles.

Earth 2150 (series)
-Multiple life bars for units affected by different weapons. Health, shield, heat, and electronics. Fully deleping the latter can make the enemy capture it.

Battle Realms
-Unit generation is automatic and produced a single "peasant" unit at no cost. These peasants are then sent into different buildings to train them to become different solider types.
-Slight stealth system Eg: where running (but not walking) through a forest can scare birds away revealing you position

at least people don't post just to argue about the chart anymore

Played C&C3 recently, it would be an okay game on it's own except that unfortunately for it, it was a sequel to Tiberian Sun.

Thanks lads, appreciate it.

And I didn't even like it.

You curse fate and move on. Or you exterminate literally all of them and indulge yourself in debauchery like genetic engineering if you're some kind of turbo-autist.

I was kind of a coward hiding behind the bots who were sending infantry then half tracks and pumas but when that first wespe got me 2 command points to unlock the Hummel, I knew I was onto something good.

Being able to use artillery in such a fashion was satisfying.

You only need to get it halfway down so the unit becomes disabled. Completely depleting it makes a unit permanently disabled unless it's an LC unit.

Those questions are asked routinely. Fine, I'll humor you.

Only a little SC1. Need to build a new RAID and move everything there from backup drives before I can really play anything.

Hard to say. Both Imperium Galacticas, Emperor, Earth 2150, Metal Fatigue, first two Homeworlds and Nexus are the ones I'm looking forward to (re)playing the most.

Struggling not to die completely.

MidEast Crisis 2 for TibWars. I have CNC Fallout, Lockdown, Talon, The Forgotten, Tiberium Essense and Tiberium Wars Advanced saved but don't remember much about each individually. Their respective pages on ModDB should give plenty of info though.
Have a bunch for various version of DoW, mostly for DC, of course. Daemonhunt, Steel Legion, Witch Hunters.
RA3 had The Red Alert released some time ago - a recreation of RA1 in the new engine. I remember liking Project X too.

It's a fucking Wraithknight not a Wraithlord, your outrage should be even larger! A Wraithknight is nearly a fucking Titan, hell it carries 2 Strength D Weapons!

I guess I'll have to play those then.

The one with the IDF faction in it? I don't know why but when I tried it, it felt unfinished to me.
The only mod I knew about it was Paradox which was "feature bloat the mod". Unsurprisingly, it died.
Good to know there are actually decent mods for that game even if I don't like it much.

Question: Anyone know of a working C&C Generals link? it seems the only remaining ones I find never work.

Playing best Ds RTS

Just select the C&C game you want to download, generals is one of them. The installer is in Russian but its not hard to understand if you don't know Russian. If you do how ever know Russian and your computer is set to english then you won't be able to see any characters of meaning, as there is something issue with unicode and Cyrillic characters, you'd have to set that in your computer's language options.

Thank you. I had t go into the files and select dont download.Hopefully that does the trick and doesnt fuck it over in some way. Thanks again for the help.

Have they fixed the bloody synch errors on that mod? I stopped playing it because we'd desynch, but not get an error. So you'd have a friend asking why you'd done X, and you'd done Y.

We were having a few synch errors as well but then my friend put his graphics down low and it ran pretty smoothly. We play LAN on toasters so anything above medium tends to fry them.

We didn't even get a synch error warning; it would give us situations like I thought I'd finished the fight and I'd be back at the main menu, and he'd be still be fighting.

Seems to be a problem with the steam version or 2.700 version of CoH, I'm using 2.602 with Blitzkrieg 4.6, out of date but both run stable.

forum.bkmod.net/viewtopic.php?t=388
I dunno, it's a problem that hasn't come up for me.

Mental Omega update soon, fellow proselytes.

Is this the current 'active' thread then?

Check out the RTT of the decade.

Definitely.
The first one is one of the few games that have different enough factions that are well balanced, and the factions themselves are great. Tech you unlock through research is really fun. I don't remember any other game that has amphibious mobile strategic missile launchers, or armored heavy helicopters with nuclear bombs for that matter.
The second is likely the first RTS to introduce three layer system (air, land, underground), implemented the concept really well and requires that players pay close attention to all three lest he falls behind and never recovers. Another key aspect is assembling and refitting combots, including quickly grabbing any spare parts that fell off enemy combots in battles and bringing them home to reverse-engineer.

I got the same feel, but it's almost there. It feels like a very late beta - just file off the few remaining rough edges and it'll be good to do.
One of the few most glaring issues is the helicopter's (Mi-24?) minigun upgrade - once a unit that got the upgrade deploys the miniguns its movement speed is reduced to 1/3 or maybe even 1/4. Their reasoning is "because balance". I agree that having an obviously overpowered unit is bad, but it just looks ridiculous.
But their factions are well thought out and different enough, balance is decent, unit voice acting is superb (at the very least for a mod), and the way you get money in that game is rather creative in some instances.

I've been monitoring several, surprisingly, but haven't logged in for a long while. TibWars has much more mods deserving attention, unsurprisingly.

Will the easy AI still be bullshit when it's supposed to be easy?
Will half the campaign's missions still be of the "one hero only, take a set path else you get owned by instakill defenses?" school of level design?
Will it have fun and casual coop missions?

Also it looks like you boys need some bait to get going, and a bait that apparently never fails here is talking about Wargame :^)
That hurts

Supposedly the lower difficulties have been made easier. I never had much of a problem with the skirmish AI, but beating it is very much a case of playing its game rather than your own, regardless of difficulty.
Don't know about the campaign. Two of the previewed missions have been commando shit so I expect it's similar to before. We can only hope they're less punishing for not being an IRL psi trooper.

Good news, fellow comrade!

So DoW 3. Not sure if I'll be able to know what the hell is going on though due to all the particle effects.

fucking kill me

Starcraft 3?

...

why do the orks remind me of Nudoom

This is actually starting to look like the a RTS instead of ASSFAGGOT.

It's a trope shared with all modders, they can't into mission making. They seem to be fucking autistic and think that Commando shit is the best thing ever in RTS games. Why don't they just turn the entire fucking game into a MOBA?

That shit got me good, you know it's going to be supreme shit when even the promotional material has optimization problems. "No no man just keep adding bloom and glowing effects for no reason, it's not that it runs badly, it's just so cool that the PC can't handle it!" probably gets thrown a lot by the devs when somebody with two braincells begins to quiestion this bullshit.

But how else are we supposed to have the same arguments over and over again? I think the chart needs to be expanded to include even more genres. Republic Commando is clearly a tactical game…

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

That has to be one of the most horrible things to come from the RTS threads.

I'm surprised it took you all that long honestly
That's what I tried to avoid actually :^)

Satellite Reign looks nice. Does anyone know if it plays well or not?

If you like a not very well optimised Unity sandbox where everything repeatedly resets after a timer ran out, then yes.

It resets when you leave the area, it never resets while you are still on it.

After a timer runs out and it leaves your line of sight even for a second, yes. If you lose vision of a destroyed gate, for example, it will stay destroyed until its timer runs out.

Well, it's out and I can confirm the easy AI is a piece of piss.

SupCom is better than TA in just about every way.

It's not that TA is bad, mind you, it's great. But SupCom is better, and by a large margin.

It's time

given how everyone in the 40k threads are completely unfamiliar with video game terminology, 40k lore, and only play the games to be immersed how do you still have the audacity to call anyone else normalfags?
oh im sorry you didnt, that was a word filter.

Things that make TA better though are the greater number of defenses, aquatic structures, unit factories, and the ability to transport enemy units. Mods fix this, but not very well since most mods are pretty poorly made and the AI doesn't handle them well.

It's shit.

top tier post lad

I sure love railroady level design in my RTS games. That's why I play them.

Okay I might actually try it later then

despite supreme commander being a spiritual sucessor to total annihilation theyre really different games except at first glance.

total annihilation has better physics, more emphasis on recycling because metal/mass isnt quite as easy to come by, units and structure wont automatically fire in to fog of war even with radar coverage, naval wreckage is a thing(a lot of mass gets wasted in supcom naval warfare), most units can fire at air but may have a hard time hitting anything and there are no shields or tactical missile defense.
all the super heavy ice breaker units are in one faction including the 'experimental'

supreme commander has a better interface in general, transports arent as clunky, larger maps with more readily available resources leading to larger battles and more direct confrontation, the fuel mechanic for air units, a variety of experimentals, veterancy and cute girls. air wreckage exists too, its not usually very interesting since they tend to be lighter on the mass, however flying experimentals also leave a prize to reclaim.

I miss flying construction units.

well theres always mods. theres even mods for naval wreckage.

you sort of have flying construction options. if you get the shitty engineering pods for your commander you can have drones from an engineering bay assist it. the bay drones have high build power but cant initiate constriction on their own.

i should probably mention those pods and drones are a uef feature.

I cringe every time I hear a unit in this mod.

How are these?
They're made by Petroglyph and look pretty fun despite the pixelshit Minecraft asthetics.

Supposedly they're just simplified CnC clones
another "why play it when you already have better older versions"

it's shit. I played it.

You just spam oil trucks/refineries, energy and build factories, that makes only one building produce units faster, very unsatisfying. And if I recall correctly you have to spam click to build units one at a time. There's no challenge or a sense of satisfaction a proper RTS should give off.

What a shame

You can just see the third one is them wanting to do more Universe at War. God I loved that unblanced piece of shit.

The unbalanced aspect of it was literally the only thing wrong with it
Hierarchy despite being the coolest was the weakest, The robots were significantly over powered and the mayan/atlantis faggots were only slightly better than the hierarchy
God those fucking robots were significantly stronger than the other teams
Fuck blackholes and fuck hacking

i feel like being on games for windows live killed it.
well, at least my experience with gfwl was always a horrible lagfest.

Gas everything. I'm going back to play DoW 1.

Oh it gets worse user, Heirarchy got nerfed hard, everything you said used to be backwards on release. I switched to Heirarchy because novus was so shit. That's pretty much is why I only play dead games, drives me nuts when you get used to something and they fucking change it. I'm loathe to start Endless Legend again for the same reason.

I should play Grey Goo already, looks like they were going for toned down asymmetry

It really does look like a Starcraft 2 mod. Not necessarily a bad one now that they're showing some proper unit blob combat instead of solely showing MOBA ability shots, mind, but I don't want a half-decent or better Starcraft 2 modalike that runs about as well as one. I want the better parts of Dawn of War 1 & 2 and the formers' tabletop-imitative mods riveted together in a shiny new package with a nicer engine and increased ability to handle titan/Epic ruleset scale units. Hell, while we're at it, why not take the Company of Heroes armor facing system, give it actual side armor values instead of a coin flip of front/rear armor hits from the side if CoH2 didn't do that already, and adapt it to Warhammer's arbitrary armor value system? It's rather annoying in a WW2 setting if you're yearning for Men of War style simulism, but it's perfect for a Warhammer game, where things are already abstracted. They're ignoring all possible wellsprings for refurbished and new features.

How was the concept of taking what fans liked previously in Dawn of War and other Relic titles and grafting these features into one product so alien that they decided to water things down for mass appeal and of all things imaginary ASSFAGGOTS player appeal, when trying to go for either is suicidal when you're using a semi-niche property and a semi-niche RTS series derivative of it? When has gutting a small to moderate scale and generally well-paying market base to get lodsemone from the unwashed masses ever actually worked? If you make a good game, generally they will come, washed or unwashed. A shit game for the unwashed will scorn the washed and won't attract the attention of the unwashed because that market is fucking cornered already by the big yearly shitter releases, even if it's showing some signs of faltering.

I recommend you pirate before buying it

don't pay more than $5-$10 for it if you decide to buy it
It's decent at best

You just described Command and Conquer.

He just described a dozen RTS games

>WE BOTH SUCK AT VIDEOGAMES AND THEREFORE HAVE NO FUCKING UNDERSTANDING WHATSOEVER ABOUT WHAT MAKES A GAME GOOD OR BAD, BUT "LOL WYMMYNZ" SO WE ARE IN CHARGE OF FILTERING OUT MEANIES MEAN CRITICISM :'((((((((((( AND WILL BE TELLING RELIC WHAT "OUR *TRUEST* FANS" (RE: PEOPLE LIKE US WHO FUCKING SUCK AT VIDEO GAMES) WANT OUT OF OUR DECADES-OLD FUCKING FRANCHISE AND FUCKING FAN-FAVORITE SERIES THAT WE WILL BE FUCKED IF WE DONT SEE IT RUN INTO THE GROUND FOR APPEASEMENT OF SJW-WATCH TIER AND TUMBLRTALE TWINKLE-FAIRY FAGGOTS

I AM GOING TO SHIT A FUCKING BRICK

No fucking shit sherlock.

Just played it. I really don't know what to think.
It's well made but there's something about it which I'm just not enjoying, I can't put my finger on it.

That much is something of damned if you do damned if you don't. If they didn't try to "establish some cred" people would naturally assume they had none whatsoever.

Did it put more emphasis on speed and looking cool rather than fun and strategy?

Maybe, two things do stand out though.
I have no idea what units do and their visuals don't reflect what they do. Usually in RTS games you can get a general idea on what a unit does just from their appearance. MO throws that out the window. For example pic one based on appearance would be the radar. However in the game pic two is the radar.
Secondly most of the units feel lackluster, especially for the new faction, they show huge destructive graphics but the actual damage is low.
Just my thoughts so far. Also 75% of the campaign missions suck.

are we ever having those aoe2 games again?

I want to play RA3 Coop with mods

That is a matter of unit feedback not correlating with actual power displayed. Weak attacks should not sound like a nuke or look like one even if you think it'll make it seem more awesome, else you get feedback dissonance and confuse the player about the usefulness of the actual unit. Same thing happens if you put in overpowered units and don't give them proper graphics/SFX.

They seem plenty powerful when someone micros a Huntress and wipes out all my infantry. Are you using them against the right units? C&C has always been a case of that tank shell doing absolutely fuck-all to a conscript because he's the wrong armour type.
I get what you mean about the new buildings though, they all end up blending in with each other.

Why are Psiops Yuri nigh on useless against factions that can actually field anti-mind control units?

Don't talk shit about the paddle faggot, he's a really fun fight.

Kind of underwhelming.

You should.

That actually sounds like they were trying to unironically use the Immortal's Handbook, which is a batshit insane third party supplement.

I just wish to watch it again this Christmas user, it's not the same without it.
And yes, I think it's exactly that story, didn't quite remember the reindeer tho

Does anyone know what happened to that one huge train station they showed in one of the overseas trade shows? It was one of the outsorcded places but damn if it wasn't huge and impressive. I don't even care if it was completely irrelevant and had nothing to do in it, I just would've liked to see it in some capacity.

user…

judging by the response not really. I'm up for it, in say, an hour an a half. Have to practice, got a LAN party coming up

Adding to that, will you fianlly be able to save in those 3 hour hero only trial and error missions ?
I haven't been following it for a bit but the previous version of mental omega use some sort of third party library that didn't have savegames, because that is for casuals apparently.

Also in general i don't like MO vechicle design, they are just too big for the square they are on. I don't understand why they decided to redesign even the basic tanks into those huge brown, because apparently putting more faction colour than a single stripe on the vehicles is the devil, boxes that overlap like a motherfucker when they stand next to each other. It's just a mess and triggers me so hard i can't play it at all.

You still can't save and load, supposedly it's almost impossible to implement. The difficulty changes are huge; it's MUCH more fair in general when not on hard mode, but the missions getting way too long and complicated is still a problem. The mission design is nearly always
1. commando mission
2. something on the scale of the final mission from any other campaign with gigantic maps/bases and absurd unit numbers
or 3. both 1 and 2 simultaneously
Which is to say much the same as the last release. It's definitely not the selling point of the mod for me, I'm having a good time with the multiplayer.

So anybody still up for a game of AOEII HD?

Sounds great. EA ain't all that bad anymore. Activision either. It's like becoming huge has made them less evil, but that doesn't make sense.

You guys can have all the fun without me I guess
I suck at AoE2 anyway haven't played it for a long long time

How terrible are those?

Here, take a proper gif.

I'm up for it if you're still around user.

We're all shit user, shame about your connection though.

...

...

...

...

Let me guess, UEF fags jealous cause they can't get real women and Aeon fags jealous cause all their women are massive dykes?

Seraphim master race. Get bullied, humies.

FUKKEN XENOS REEEEEEEEEE!

GET BULLIED

Sorry can't hear you over the sounds of my Destroyers walking on land

You can't have boats without docks. Docks that my T2 rush just destroyed, along with your ACU.

Now who is being deluded here?

For the sake of interest, are there any games that have an equivalent of the MCV from the CnC series?

Because I always somewhat disliked games where you can stomp an entire base from the ground just from a single peasant worker.

Plus, seeing your MCV moved in/ flown in always gives me comfy feels for some reason.

I like seeing MCVs unpack.

I think Submarine Titans to an extent and Star Trek Armada. Homeworld is also technically similar. But as far as an actual unit that deploys into a base? I'm sorry I'm stuck.

Wish more ships could go on land like that.

Except the RA3 Destroyer was shit on land because all of the land units were far to fragile as if to justify the black hole armor.

Stupid thing should have had more attack power.

I'm starting to get use to the mechanised arm a bit more. I like to avoid direct confrontation by using artillery sometimes with my friend building defences but both going armour for that map was fun.
Had one of my tigers at full health get destroyed by a Sherman M4A3 by hitting it once in the side. Must have been a lucky shot or using AP ammo.

Hey Holla Forums, what is your top 5 wishlist for a dream RTS game? Mine:

This makes sense for Eldar as they're super advanced graceful race of space elves, so even their largest machines should be able to leap like that, but the animation still irks me a lot…

It was great but it tried to be a gookclick which is bad for fun.

To be fair Relic is way bigger than Concept, I really doubt thy had any influence over development and are merely a symptom, not a cause, of the devs being unaware of what people want from a WH40k RTS

Kinda sucks we get just a half of Act Two, even if half of missions are hardcore bullshit, the story is great and those briefings add a lot. Now it says the briefings will be added later and while you still can get the story (Yuri emerges from hiding and immediately beheads Soviet leadership in Moscow, Allies struggle against Soviets and Yuri trying to protect their last base in UK while working on some super sky fortress called Protect Paradox, Yuri manages to take over a chronosphere captured by Soviets and invade London just to be late for Paradox sky fortress to knock out his own Irkalia sky fortress, meanwhile allies evacuate UK and soviets manage to negotiate new alliance with Chinese) it's not as fun.

Also, good news, easy AI seems kinda less bulshit, at very least you can just play Foehn and spam knightframes at it.

I played Armies, it was dull, a very primitive, safe and dull original CnC imitation.
Yet to play Hordes but it seems more of same.
Invaders, so I heard, is way better as they moved to more fun resource collection mechanics.

Also, while standalone these can be played together so I guess you can have orcs versus aliens versus regular soldiers. Which may actually make it worth it.

I never got it why did they feel like keeping the radar structure requirement. I mean, limiting player's interface is kinda dumb, isn't being able to reset the black mask with infiltrations enough?

CnC 3 meets KKnD setting. Seems like nothing special. Might even end up dull.

Well it's progressing pretty slowly but steadily towards something playable but unless they add to all factions it looks dull and primitive.

And yet it's still no better than original Cossacks 1 in any way.

A proper god damn squeal to World in Conflict mixed with the regiment part from Clancy's Endwar.

Basically like that, Units are deployed onto the battlefield from your regiment but it costs resources to have them ready and to get them to battle, so you suddenly can't call a a tank hunter squad if you weren't prepared for it.

Lose too many units and you find your regiment hard pressed to complete missions.

So for bullet points.

I found my original copy of this the other day I simply cannot get the fucking thing to run though.

I don't think anyone has an issue with the Eldar having more "graceful" Knight class titans, but having them do a tiny jump and then skid across the map is fucking retarded

There is empires apart. Which is a shitty version of AoE2.
DoW3
And Halo wars.
Sudden strike 4

All shit or mediocre.

Why do devs think console only RTS are a good idea?
AvP Extinction never ever

1- Programming Units and tactics instead of Micro. Huge variety in possible tactics to choose from and that you have to adapt to

2-Customizable Units. I honestly dunno why this is so rare, let me pick what armor, what weapons and what acessories my soldiers take to battle. Let me perform genetic experiments on them that increase their speed or strength but require extra resources to make.

3-Truly diverse factions. I don't want Red and Blue faction, where the Red does 7 points of damage and moves at 5 units per second while Blue does 5 points of damage and moves at 7 units per second.
Give me a faction that's all about dominationg the battlefield and another that doesn't need to because they are anywhere they want at any time. Give me a faction that gets stronger from corpses, give me another that is harmed by what everyone else uses as fuel.

4-Gigantic Armies. I don't want to micro 50-70 units, I want to command 500 to 700 in a section of the map, 200 in another and 1500 in the front. This ties into point 1, let me program the tactics for these groups and let me expand them to rediculous amounts of units

5-An actual interesting economy to be simulated.
Rise of Nations for instance would be a better game if each city had it's own population and it's own popcap. Villagers "lived" there and their amount dictated how many you can have working around that place. Building houses would increase the villager pop cap but it would be the presence of ammenities that would dictate how fast they are produced and food would be strictly for maintenance of your population and your army, while recruiting soldiers would draw directly from your population.

Only games I know that do something similar are Seven Kingdoms and Sins of a Solar Empire.

Endwar had a great attention to small details it's a real shame that the core gameplay is a huge pile of shit.

Kill me

It's okay according to other anons you didn't miss much :^)

It looks like some anime character.
Eldar should move like some of these anime characters that are pretty much transvestites and very open about it. You know the ones that move their ass way to much.
This unit moves like over-heroic main hero, that tries to be a bit too cool with kids.

It is shit.

I still don't get why SC2 is in purgatory.
Its not that bad, I think.
Can someone explain to me why I'm wrong? Its pretty fun and has a good variety of units, comfy UI, pr good map design and solid aesthetics with a fun campaign and excellent map editor?

You sound like a shill.
This is the main petpeeve with the community as every map made in it is essentially blizzards' due to legal bullshit and butthurt from DOTA. And it's not even that good, WC3 is better by miles in simplicity despite having slightly less features, which is what matters when you want tons of mods to be made for it.

planetside 2 is the most real time real time strategy game there is

God damn it.

You wish. Even the hardcore editors can't pull off proper models for it. All the game of thrones, lord of the rings, ancient civilizations, europe wars, risk and etc. modes use basic models such as marines and zealots.
Sorry but treant collosus is not really my thing.
That's not even counting the complexity, older modes being remade worse, lacking tons of wc3 ones and how bad the game browser was and still is.

...

Star Ruler does that, it allows for very specific engagement rules, shit like this in a classic RTS or RTT, like "only take cover over 50%" or "autoheal at 20%" would be very much appreciated.

Goddamnit these games tickle me just right. First I played through all the campaigns in SupCom. Now I've played through FA one mission short of three times (once with each faction, Aeon last).

Sequel never ever!

...

"… We won't last much longer!"

"Understood Captain, I appreciate what you're doing."

"Sir… I just want to say I'm sorry."

"No need Captain, I'm humbled to have served with you."

"Thank you sir, Bannon out."

guys, grey goo is on sale, is that game any good?

and what about Age of Empires III?

Age of Empires III is better than grey goo, not as good as an AoE game but it had significantly less gookclicking (apm) than previous AoE game titles
tbh a lot of the hate AoE 3 gathers is a result of them getting rid of stone
Greygoo is pretty small scope or was at least when i last played it
Honestly i would rather play Universe at war or warcraft 3 than grey goo as both games had significantly more units and unit variety

I played a bit of the campaign in grey goo, I thought it was okay, nothing amazing though. The human faction looks feally dumb though and I don't know anything about the third faction.

How many expansions do you make before you just make a true sequel? This is expansion #4, it must be around 30 "civilizations" at this point.

Just find a way to combine AoE2 with the best elements of AoE3 and Rise of Nations.

you happen to know AoE3? Do you know how to remove that population limit and all those other limits like building limit?

Half of the mods I found online don't work properly.

How's Executive Assault?

/m/ would love this game

It only desyncs on comp stomps on custom maps.

I second this. I've been looking at it for a while.

Same dude here, don't worry, I got it in a humble bundle or something ages ago. I was always going to play it, but for cheap.

It's a Unity game that doesn't suck ass. Max is 4 players. Nice decent fun and AI is a decent challenge, UI is a bit crap and trying to select units is a chore unless they are megabots or some shit like that. Some glaring balance issues as well. The gimmick of being able to take control of individual units and walk inside the interior of bases is fun but not sure how much it will work in a heated battle when you need to manage your forces and base. Unit AI though seems to be able to think for itself so you don't have to Gookclick to get them to do shit. Other than that a fairly decent RTS for a fair price that actually has put some effort in.

To sum it up it's a post 2007 RTS that doesn't suck complete ass. It's actually decent. Not amazing or great, just good.

Merry Christmas goys
Since we're talking about recent RTS, what's the deal with Warshift?

So, considering my shitshow of a schedule it's basically whenever I play with my mate still? Buggery.

Mongoose with T1 spam is better.

That's an idea that could work surprisingly well, a combination of those can get rid of all the flaws each of those individual games had.

Too bad I won't contribute shit myself because I know bumfuck nothing about coding.

...

Wonder how much SJW butthurt there would be if they tried to make C&C Generals today?

Not much considering they tried to use ISIS in a fps recently if i remember correctly
Or are we talking about this in regards to china?

i'd rather not. I love playing static defense. build up a fortress that can't be touched then assault when they wear themselves out.

A lot and considering how EA are at the moment they'd probably change it.

There's a turtle subfaction for each faction. In fact I think I've lost more online matches by being too aggressive and pushing for active map control than I have to building defenses instead of units and teching hard.

Well the GLA would be bitched about for being like ISIS for a start.

They really predicted the future with that game.

Though the game to most accurately predict the future was Ghost Recon.

I am waiting for Mexico to erupt into Civil War.

Where's that girl from?

Yet it will sell like hotcakes because the 40k fanbase is pure delusional cancer that will buy anything with the 40k name. In turn that will lead to this shit being validated and more of this shit down the line.

Pic related might be good, seems to be a modern Final Liberation. Graphically pretty dull (though it's early so who knows) but rather that than the WoW look. I hope it's fucking good I need it after waiting for Final Liberation 2.0 all this time.

Will it have FMV and Commissar Holt?

Not posting the mad rap track webm!

smh tbh

If Generals was made today EA would pussy out when it comes to releasing it. Maybe that's part of the reason why they killed the sequel :^)

What's the best DLC for graviteam tactics operation star?

moddb.com/groups/2016-mod-of-the-year-awards/features/players-choice-mod-of-the-year-2016
So what do you faggots think about this shit?
still better choices than the shitty Steam awards

Anons, does FAF work with pírate copies?

it does

Seems alright.

My Razer Naga Epic is getting rusty, can anyone recommend me a gaming mouse?
Tom's guide ones look neat but I don't want to be outjewed. I just want a long lasting mouse for vidya, mainly RTS.

Please help. I miss my Ilshavohs greatly.

I would recommend something if it wasn't for the fact you were a filthy xenos lover!

I would have sent an Asswasher on you, but I can't bomb dem trips.

Just calling in every artillery I had on that bridge, had no engineers close and hadn't wired it beforehand. That was stressful, good match though.

The Emperor truly does protect!
Except for having good 40k Games

I'm a fan of the Afghanistan one personally.

So RTS in 2017, why do I feel sick at the pit of my stomach all of a sudden?

Because DoW 3 is going to take examples from ASSFAGGOTS? Yeah, I don't feel well either.

Anyone here actually excited for spellforce 3?
I played 2 but it couldn't really keep me in, Felt like a lesser WC3
I hear Spellforce 1 had a much better RTS aspect to it though so i might consider trying that

It's a 3, it's fucked
And others.
Jokes aside, I have barely played Spellforce 1 and it didn't really do anything for me. I guess I should replay it later.

Because the gere might finally be as dead as disco with the output of trash games that's been steadily going out for the genre for a while.

user you forgot:
>Gears of war 3 tbh user i haven't played any of them except the first
>Age of wonders 3 2 was significantly better
And this list isnt even touching on Movie sequels, although tbf anything coming out of holiwood now is fucked already

Its rare that you can actually get a good game, like off the top of my head:

Still probably the worse way to end a game off is 4
Likes seriously every fourth game is shit, in fact the only exception to this rule is Dominions 4

...

How do I git gud at SupCom? I never know when to transition to T2 because it feels like I'm always using my resources to match what my enemy is sending, and if I start upgrading my factories I end up stalling my economy.

As soon as possible user, only rush faggots dont tech

Counter-argument:

But thats not a counter argument for 4's

Anyone played Ashes of Singularity? Is it just another indie clone of SupCom?

It's basically a tech demo. Escalation makes it playable but it's rather slow and tedious.

Can anyone tell me if Men of War Assault Squad 2 is good? I remember enjoying the demo for the first assault squad but I put it on the back burner and now I want to start playing some MoW but I want to know if I should just get the original assault squad instead.

Depends if you want multiplayer get AS2 if you don't get the original.
