Most people here are cool, and I'd buy them a round. Obviously some people here are just faggots who come here to bait and shitpost, but can you do about them? I'd hope that most of us aren't one bad day away from fellating a shotgun or gonna go full Minecraft school shooter, and if some are I hope that things get better for them.
It's hard to say if the two columbine kid's would've went on the spree without DooM. I think they still would've, and I doubt the kill count would've been any different, but I do think it had an effect on their psyche. But that's just them being very weak willed people, letting a piece of media affect them in such a drastic way.

That's exactly what I mean by escapism, how we escape from the world around us and immerse ourselves in another/distract our minds with something else. It's a necessary part of psychological control and mental health I think, and before that we had books and films – but in video games I think it's slightly different. YOU'RE the protagonist, and the story/action can revolve around actions that you take – and that definitely changes the narrative, but does it also change the way you perceive the things that are being committed?

I remember when I was a young child my parents tried to keep me away from violent Vidya, and looking back I saw why. As violence became such a gradual norm in these games, I became desensitized to it as it was just a part of the game, and I started to see this type of violence as normal. I would never participate in it, but even when present in films it did not truly shock or disturb. I think an important factor is empathy, and it's something children/adolescents simply lack more than adults which is probably why most bullying starts in playgrounds/school environments etc.

I think that since we have this dedicated underground club of the internet, we all have some escape from reality – but the sad truth is is that Dylan and Eric had no means of escape except for the hours that they would spend together outside of school. I definitely think that not all school shooters etc think in this manner - it's a definitive tie between mental health and the environment you find yourself in.

I think you're right in that video games and media affected their decision making somewhat, but examining the journals it's clear that they were easily impressionable, and unfortunately not very self aware of this fact. I just hope we can learn from this instead of scrutinizing it from every angle like the media would.

until eleventh grade i was the smallest guy in class, always. i was picked on and beaten up by three bullies in particular. if anything i would have gone for them; our town was small enough that i knew where they lived. but then i realized that they were worse than me in every way and letting them live to figure that out was even better. i realize how edgelord that sounds but i learned about death from a very young age and believed and still do that it's the ultimate relief, it's the end of all your problems

Good point. It doesn't help that frustrated men are considered an acceptable target for mockery and shame, especially if their frustration relates to sex in any way, and especially especially if sex is the major reason. In fact, they're pretty much the only group of people that has no one to defend them, and when they try to defend themselves, they just get mocked even more. And then people are positively *shocked* when some of them snap, conveniently ignoring that for every one guy that shoots up a place, there are thousands who only kill themselves. No one gives a shit about the guys who don't hurt others, and I think the mass shooter types know that and figure "If they're going to shit on me either way, I might as well shit on them, too."

I think adults are just as bad. Empathy seems to be in short supply among people in general, and like I said, pretty much no one has empathy for frustrated men.

I think part of his point was that reliable sources that are relevant to that line of inquiry don't really exist, because society is too quick to just heap scorn and mockery on the types of guys he's talking about, or declare that the nature of their problems marks them as being unworthy of help or empathy (i.e. "Those guys' problems make them losers, and losers don't deserve help. Let's point and laugh instead.") "There but for the grace of God go I" isn't a common sentiment.

But those are the people he wants to examine. You don't do an up-close-and-personal examination of serial killers by talking to pacifists or a study on OCD patients by talking to cancer patients.

Besides, with SJWs practically taking over universities everywhere, no social studies professor will be interested in anything that even begins to entertain the notion that maybe men's frustrations aren't 100% their fault at all times. If he did present such a paper, I anticipate that the professor's notes would include many instances of the terms "patriarchy" and "toxic masculinity". Maybe even "rape culture" if sex is a prominent topic in the paper.
