Anyways… I'm getting over it lately and started playing 14 (13 was my last one) and holy shit 14 feels a lot harder than 13 by miles, and since I'm kinda bad (I can't 1cc most mainline ones) are there some consensus on who are the best shots for each character?
I even only know that the Ibara Kasen manga lead to some games but I don't know shit about that either, I heard about something fucking up the barrier and that's probably the last thing I've heard.

I kick myself every time old /jp/ is brought up because I completely ignored that place when I was out of touhou for awhile. I mean, im a filthy secondary only getting into touhou around 2009 (mainly through the mcroll video) and playing 6 and 8 when I had the spare time. When 13 was released I completely lost all interest in the series as a whole. I only cared for the music during that period until 15 was released (mostly for clownpiece). When LoTLK came out I got back in slowly familiarizing myself with the story again, only to find all the places where discussion was usually had are mostly gone or barren. Hell, /2hu/ here went to shit and the 8/a/ thread is mostly dead.

Played all of the official games, even the PC-98 ones. Pretty crappy player though, no Lunatic clears though I've 1CC'd 4, 8 (both paths), 12, and 13 on normal.

I play pretty rarely nowadays, though I make sure to at least play through every new release to see how rusty I am. Going back to older games surprises me when I capture cards I couldn't come close to originally.

1st and 3rd Person Shooters/Slashers, Strategy/Tactics Games, Western-style RPGs. (Fallout 1 and 2, etc)

Almost nothing with anime on it, also. Not even kidding, I cannot name a single game I play right now with anime in it. You can count Monster Hunter if you want, though I barely touch my 3DS anymore.

I hope it's another fighter. As a shmup series, there are other shmups I like more like Crimzon Clover or Dodonpachi. However I really enjoy some of the of the other games in the series like 12.3 and Shoot the Bullet. Or that VS shmup one. I would play those for hours with a friend. Some of the fan games are really cool too like Megamari and Labyrinth of Touhou 2.

In 12.3 I main Reisen while my friend used Remilia. I still need to beat some of the main games though.

Many bullet hells don't have actual level designs in the sense of obstacles, level hazards, destructible environments, or turrets that comes from the floor. Instead the bullets themselves form walls and your placement is not always determined by where you can shoot the enemy, but where you can graze the most. Different strokes for different folks.

I come for vidya I have a hard time liking current eastern games. It's not entirely about hating the culture though anime has lost its appeal for me (and even repulses me) ever since it's nothing but little girls and flamboyant designs more as it feels like most eastern games are just constant rehashes of their previous titles with little to no innovation to show for their efforts. In general yhe Asian game market just strikes me as that, the Asian game market. I can't even tell what I'm looking at anymore from first glance, forcing me to research these games to determine what the core mechanics are (to include actual genre) and most of the time I feel let down by my search results. Some stand out but they're few and far between. I want LetThemDie on PC

I hope it's like 12.3 again. While the newest one isn't bad. It feels much more limited than 12.3. The weather system, movement, and massive zoning gameplay really separates it from other fighters.

Gotta know where to look. I like cute girls doing cute things but I enjoy manly men doing manly things too. However, you will have a much better time sticking to manga instead of anime. Something like Garouden is a very fun read with just men kicking and grappling the shit out of each other.

As for Asian games. I usually stick with them as most of the western devs I liked when I was younger died off and most of the passion I used to see in the western industry seems to have dried up with monster publishers absorbing and killing off every crumb of talent in the industry.

Completely understandable. Some games you can't even tell what depth it has until you play it. Something like Dungeon Travelers 2 has a ton of depth in its combat, enemy movesets, and a class/team building. But you would never notice at first glance and the ecchi art will put some people off. It's one of the hardest turn based combat games I've played in ages while also having better combat than most turn based RPGs these days.

Shoot-em-up. Danmaku, or bullet hell, is a subgenre of shoot-em-up games. What exactly makes a game become a danmaku is a little vague. However if bullets fill the screen like a bucket of paint then you're definitely playing a danmaku. What makes Touhou different from most is the bullet patterns. Some are pretty iconic in fact.

Depends, I haven't saw anime in a while due to not liking most of what I saw, but I think this winter season had 3 or 4 shows I would check out, not bad considering how bad things can be. Also read more manga. My personal favourite is kokou no hito, it's about rock climbing.

It's no problem user. We both know it's the industry and audience changing. Publishers gaining too much power over development, not believing in the development team to make a good product, and stock holders who only play things safe lead to the stagnation of video games in the west.

Publishers keep intervening in the development cycle and only follow trends of games that made it big, instead of being the trend starter themselves. Publishers like EA and Activision would also absorb smaller devs and push the same bullshit on them that caused the other devs to fail. We've seen this plenty of times but the one I remember the most as of recent was Dead Space 3. Removed the thriller/horror element and made it a co-op shooter. Once they had no hope for the game they fucked up, they held it hostage posting things like "If it doesn't sell 3 million then it's the last game in the series." It's not even like the devs don't or can't make a good game. They're essentially not allowed to.

It's not even like all western games are bad, but it has come to the point where I mainly stick to Aisan games now. Which has its own share of problems. And honestly it's easier to see what's wrong with the western side (mainly America of course) of gaming as opposed to the eastern side IMO. All of this doesn't help when greedy publishers keep pushing new ways to sap money out of consumers and people actually defend these tactics.

While publishers are a cancer, it seems I must again remind people that publishers have always been a bit of a cancer. There are very few that aren't, and even then, its more on a case by case basis. If anything, they have simply grown to the point when they are unsustainable and the cells are now dying.

My first contact with Touhou was the Imperishable Night demo. Those were my first thoughts, too, except they were ghosts or spirits helping the player character like in Guwange. I didn't know it was a demo, or that there was a whole series of games, so I was always confused on how to get past Stage 3.

I've heard (but cannot confirm, as the Japs may have lied to me) that in one of Zun's infrequent trips to the internet semi-recently where he opted to answer questions, he flat out placed Yuuka in the same power tier as Hecatia - 'Cosmological-level Power' (along with Shinki, amazingly meaning he remembers the PC98 characters).
Side note from memory, in the same 'interview', he once again affirmed the PC-98 events did happen unless otherwise contradicted.

Along with the name of the game, this (if true) actually gives Yuuka a very real possibility for appearing as she meets all of the requirements that he spelled out (so long as you interpret his 'has not appeared' statement to mean 'has not appeared in a fighter').

It's a sad time to be a Touhou player.

Either way, actually. Yuuka is one of the ~20 or so characters that have been confirmed as never taking the games seriously (even when you were playing as her).
From PoFV (she was just pushing people out of the Garden of the Sun - she canonically actually defeated Shiki Eiki) to Mystic Square ("Genocide is just a game!") to Lotus Land Story (she was 99% asleep and Zun says that she, like Yukari, takes a while to get going after waking up).

For comparison purposes, how tall is Yuugi supposed to be? She's giant, but giant by Japanese standards usually tends to be something like 6ft 1in, with a "titanesque" 6.5 being the upper limits of their imagination.
