Well I decided to try some Ace Combat 5 on my X32 HOTAS. sensitivity is being difficult but I think i can make it work. So far though it seems controller is still best obviously. Also how do i get rid of the vertical black lines in higher resolution? I remember it being to do with a certain resolution scale but i cant remember what it was.

Ace Combat 4,5 and 0. All are damn cheap, just like the PS2 to play them on.

I personally haven't played X. But a lot of the Ace Combat game are good except the international version of 3 and Assault Horizon. The trinity stands out for having great stories and soundtracks. As long as you avoid the bad games, you should have a good time with any of the Ace Combat games.

AC0 worked for me by just setting D3D11 hardware mode, reducing internal resolution to 2x native, setting mipmapping to basic, and turning on align sprite under hardware hacks. i5 [email protected]/* */ + R9 290.

It's not 100%, there's some weird banding in the air sometimes, but it runs pretty flawlessly.

Difficulty in Ace Combat basically determines how many mistakes (missiles) you're allowed to take before you get blasted out of the sky.

I'm using the normal, non-kiddie control style. Never played an actual flight sim before, but I did work on a game including flight for a while, that's what caused me to be interested in AC in the first place.
Did the first mission on normal, that was pretty easy. But then again no one shot at me.

Yeah the first mission of 04 is basically just a tutorial. Shooting fish in a barrel. The second mission gets a bit more complicated.

He helped define some of the requirements that would go into the A-X and LWF programs, but that's it. He in no way helped design or develop the actual aircraft that came from those programs. He's a defense analyst, not an engineer. To his credit, a lot of the critiques and analyses he makes nowadays would have been entirely correct in the 60s, but he's just plain wrong nowadays. This is the same guy who was openly critical of the F-16 during its development because it contained a radar and had air-to-ground capability. He criticized the F-20 for the same reasons.

Ace Combat on Pc, what to play first?
I think there is only one Ace combat game on PC, that is Assault Horizon. Should I play that or emulate PS2?

Emulate 4, 5, and 0 on PCSX2, then pirate Assault Horizon just to see the utter rock-bottom low point of the entire series.

They went from PS2 to 360 and kept essentially the same gameplay, despite (presumably) switching engines between platforms. Granted, those were custom in-house engines, but still. Just using Unreal doesn't necessarily mean that the game will play drastically differently from previous numbered entries.

I'm guessing either there's another space mission or there's another asteroid. My guess is on the latter, since in one scene you see a man in a hanger looking at shooting stars. Stonehenge was probably brought back into operation in order to defend itself against another asteroid.

For some reason that final shot reminded me of the shot in this film where the supporting cast are waiting for this dude to come back and slowly realize that he's never coming back.

It is true that airplanes, especially the f-35, are becoming rackets for the defense agency to put as much as they can onto them and make dosh. But yeah, thinking an f-86 can win even against a loaded jet like the f-35 is retarded.

I also want to add that the Sprey isn't alone in being disliked. Pretty much the entire fighter mafia was disliked in some way by engineers and pilots. John Boyd himself got laughed out of Top Gun after he told the instructors that they couldn't possibly shoot down a MiG-17 with a F-4 (using his own E-M theory as evidence), even though most of the instructors had multiple confirmed kills against MiG-17s while flying F-4s. One of the instructors later said "Never trust anyone who would rather kick your ass with a slide rule than with a jet.".

Eh, kind of. The A-10 was basically made to be a cannon fodder aircraft. In the event of a Soviet invasion of Europe, the A-10 fleet would have been sacrificed in its entirety to give the main US air force time to arrive. It survives well (not that well, but better than most jets, which are notoriously fragile) against small arms fire and cannons, but it's low speed makes it defenseless against AAMs and SAMs. This wasn't much of an issue when the A-10 was developed, as SAMs weren't as easily deployable back then. Nowadays, however, it's not that difficult for terrorist organizations to obtain shoulder-mounted guided missiles, which are quite capable of shooting down an A-10. The thing is though, pretty much all fighters have equivalent or superior missile warning systems (Such as the AN/AAR-56 in the F-22 or the AN/AAQ-37 DAS in the F-35) which, along with their speed and maneuverability (and stealth in 5th gen airframes), makes them capable of surviving most situations that would demolish an A-10. Not to mention that aircraft like the F-15, F-22, and F-35 are all capable of surviving extreme damage (up to an entire wing lost thanks to body lift). This is why the A-10 isn't allowed to operate in contested airspace.

People use that? Cockpit mode seems like the only way to go for me. I've never seen anyone regularly use that mode over cockpit or third person view. Regardless, you're restricted to cockpit mode while using PSVR.

I'm 99% sure the majority of users here agree on not buying PSVR just for AC7. There are some decent games for it, so if you really want it, you'll have SOME games. No killer app, but enough to make it more than an AC7box.

The other game that's going to be the first things I play is SotC unless they announce a proper VR edition before that. It was amazing in just 3D, but with a HMD it's going to be absolutely breathtaking. A do-nothing visual obstruction doesn't do that. Pure first person mode where you only have the needed HUD elements is all you need to be an Ace.

Then why not simply play in third-person view? I use that when I want to play the game as efficiently as possible. I use cockpit view when I want to be as immersed as possible. First-person view doesn't satisfy either of those (for me).

I usually do it the other way around. I generally only use third-person if it's a tough fight that I'm having trouble with. The point is, first-person is the worst of both worlds.
