OSVR officially supported on Steam

The OSVR doesn't come with the others' mandatory motion controls and supposedly the head tracking isn't as polished as the Vive or Rift's. It's mainly targeted at developers and professionals who buy VR headsets in bulk rather than gamers.

You realise that the motion wand things are the thing that actually make VR worthwhile? Without them it's literally just a display. The one constant you heard of coverage of the Vive and Oculus was that the Vive games that were interesting were the ones that used the motion controllers and that a lot of Oculus games would be better with them.

The fact that now has steam support is just a landmark on the accessibility of an open source product, it means it has better chances of being sold and that more games will start to care about this peripheral (which happens to be one of the best options if you just want depth perception on regular games instead of the "VR experience" all the other HMD are selling).

I used the Oculus DK2 on ARMA. Resolution was shit (and the 4 main HMD still have shit resolution up to this date), but the depth perception and that feeling of presence is really good. It will be good as soon as resolution gets better. Hopefully, HDK2 will have Vive tracking one day, that would be perfect.

There are injectors and wrappers that work with many games, but some have rendering issues. I can't for the life of me find if Arx Fatalis works with some of this things, that game alone would make it worth it; Cooking shit in a fire would take game comfy to the next level.

As VR only game? Probably yes. Handguns grenades and shoe horse is neat, but not a real game. Onward on the other hand is aiming to be an actual game, still EA shit, but seems promising.
I'm yet to see some good VR melee, I'm afraid no one will get it to work correctly. All things considered, I think VR works well for vehicle stuff (probably including mecha), guns, vidya porn and simulators.

At the time they are only focusing on the "rental" market, kind of like arcades, but for some VR gimmicky shit. Not to mention it would take one beefy machine to get it to run properly.

I have one sitting on my desk. Most modern games have at least minor fov problems, because they assume a 16:9 screen and 1:1 pixel ratio. Almost no game supports proper head tracking, let alone position tracking.

i think the most encouraging part of the whole VR thing is how quickly new technologies are going from idea to prototype phase. back when all-touchscreen-no-keyboard phones became the norm, there was a firm (maybe samsung but can't remember for sure) who came up with the idea of having a touchscreen that could "grow" buttons when the need arose, such as a keyboard for typing or a shutter button for the camera mode. obviously nothing came of it commercially but imagine, the idea has already been put forward to "sculpt" a design into a surface depending on what the computer running the whole thing says what should pop up. combine that with clever programming in a game and you too could be running your actual fingers over virtual nipples and labia in no time

You do know walking isn't the only possible input for movement for VR stuff, right? HMD is a display with an extra input option that some games can use for camera/view direction if devs/modders want to and are able to.
Teleport is a compromise for faggots, Asians and women. Onward has controller movement and people can play it just fine. I played Quake 2 with the OR DK2 without even getting dizzy or feeling eye-strain.

Right now the GNU/Linux crowd are making their own Vive drivers rather than bothering with the OSVR. Valve is a safer bet for their investment of time and developer resources.

The OSVR had one single job and it fucked up tremendously by focusing all their development efforts on the Windows platform with worthless token Mac & Linux support they could put on marketing materials. It's no different than the Oculus in this regard.

If you're going to spend hundreds on a VR headset go with one that may have a future 10 years from now. By 2019 a cheap chink phone with a decent holder will outmatch the HDK2 from today at half the price. Combined with USB-C it'll allow you to play tethered to a PC giving the Vive and Rift a hard time to justify their high prices.

I have a but of experience with the Vive and Rift and for me the Vive is the best by far. With both I prefer seated VR over walking around shit but the Vive controllers are amazing in the few situations the are designed for. Think of it as a steering wheel for you PC, it's shit for just about everything but fucking awesome for driving games.
