We barely have any gun crime in Canada compared to the U.S., but there are definitely excuses to push this sort of thing lately. In Goodale's home prefecture there was a shooting of a native kid by a farmer. A car full of drunk 20-somethings went on to his land and tried to steal shit, along with ramming one of the farmer's vehicles. The kid that got shot died and the farmer was acquitted of charges. Anyways I can see restrictions being imposed in the U.S. as more reasonable given the amount of gun murders that happen every year compared to other countries, but for Canada it's completely pointless. In my city, which is considered relatively bad for crime, there were less than 10 homicides last year, and I don't think they were even all gun-homicides. This legislation is pure alarmism, and it plays in to the strategy of the Liberal party.

For those of you less familiar with Canadian politics, the Liberals are like the moderate version of the Conservative party. They have somewhat similar economic policies, but they mask their conservative tactics with PR campaigns, like Trudeau having a "diverse" cabinet, marching in pride parades, partaking in ethnic community gatherings for photo ops, etc., and also not being as socially conservative. The gun legislation is just an appeal to the leftists who voted for them to try to convince them that they're getting served something different from the Conservatives.

Healthcare is the main issue in Canada right now and Trudeau is doing fuck all about it. Trudeau is the posterchild for socially conscious Toronto leftists who are satisfied with his clowning and ignorant to what he's really doing to the country.

I wouldn't worry too horribly much. This gun control bill has been talked about and talked about and talked about with absolutely no progress towards it being visible at all. The current running theory is that the liberals are in such a ridiculously precarious position regarding re-election that their rural MPs, ones the liberal party historically doesn't give a flying fuck about, were able to get this supposed bill delayed several times.

If that is happening, then they must really, truly, and honestly think there is a very real chance that they will lose the election to a conservative majority, and literally every single last possible vote counts. I don't know if you guys saw that study or not (and I know, polls, whatever) but if an election were held right now there would immediately be a conservative majority and the liberals would only be able to secure less than 100 seats.

There were a bunch of NDP politicians who backed (or even joined) the conservative party because the liberals "were too right wing" and the conservatives were considered a better option.
