It's really REALLY pretty, runs like shit though unless you have a good computer. FoV is teeny tiny, feels like about 60 degrees. Resolution is locked at 1920x1080 or something for now, but hey it's an alpha.

Mostly seems like a walking simulator, a few "press X here to scare bugs away with fire" type things, and some stealth bits. All very linear, it's like walking though a haunted house at a funfair.

As someone who's not into powerless survival horror games or walking simulators, Agony however manages to use those mechanics well judging the world. I mean most of the problems I have with powerless survival horror is that there are always safe areas (as in familiar environments like a bedroom, kitchen, front room, forrests) but I never get that feeling here like you always have to look over your shoulder due to the extremely hostile environment. The only issue I've seen so far is the tutorial interruptions which break the atmosphere.

I personally think that if you portray hell it should be portrayed as a place where you start in an alright situation, but slowly goes worse and worse after time. It should also be a place where you have an illusion of making a choice, and when you realize that you've made a truly terrible choice, it's already too late and it only starts getting worse.

Just imagine a game taking place in hell.
It starts with some kind of village in the mountains. The first thought someone should have when talking to the characters that reside there should be "well, this isn't so bad". After the main character discovers some mystery, for example, from time to time, some of the characters are being kidnapped/killed by some kind of monster. So he is tasked with investigating the problem, but by doing that he finds himself in a different location, without the ability of going back. This continues and the main character slowly finds himself in worse and worse situations. On a desert, in a middle of a warzone and then finally, after he is almost completely broken, he finds himself in a gory place made of disgusting shit and fire and brimstone. After trying to escape he finds himself in a place where he can't even comprehend what's happening around him and the world starts becoming slightly "lovecraftian". After that it is implied that he is going to be only worse from now on and more logic-defying shit would just keep piling up and the main character would slowly fall deeper and deeper into insanity.

And then he arrives at the village again.
