Katakana basically was invented by Buddhist monks in the 8th to 9th century, some of it was inspired the work of other monks on the Korean peninsula and most of the work was derived from chink characters. To be fair the Japs adapted their kana from their interaction with Chinks who also had more access to jews in the 8th century. This may be why there is a lot of the yid influence in the katakana script. Comparing the two kana they look quite different and it is such a divergence from standard form and function and aesthetic beauty that japs are known for, that it is quite reasonable to presume (((something else))) led to this design choice especially when you consider katakana was pretty varied in the beginning and varied from Buddhist sect to sect.
