I'm playing with ffmpeg's -b:v and -crf parameters, but I don't see myself getting that kind of quality with the length and resolution. I look up encoding guides for 1280x720 60 fps and the file sizes don't seem par with what webm threads expect.

I've had two maine coons in my time, though neither was as big as that guy's pic. They're nowhere near as feral as you seem to be thinking. If I remember correctly, they found that the work on that model took way too long and went with a special skin overlay procedure that was used for Jurassic Park Warpath where each model had layers (skin, blood, muscle, bone) and repeated attacks to a certain zone would wear the flesh away.
