user, one of the differences between sun and moon are the day/nigh cycles are 12 hours apart. So sun is normal but moon is 12 hours off.

I'm just starting on it and holy shit what a MAJOR improvement over Gen 6 already. Everything feels more polished. Even the battles. And the new Pokemon designs. are a major step up from gen 6. I feel like the new gen is going to be genuinely good.

Anyone else feel this way? Or were my expectations just so low after the horrible failure that was gen 6 that gen 7 seems godlike to me?

The challenge feel "solid" as in; its not piss easy boring as fuck like gen 6 was. It feels engaging enough that grinding doesn't feel like a complete chore and gives you a decent amount of challenge. Granted, this is Pokemon so don't expect hardmode either

Not to mention I wanted more Alolan forms, and maybe some new megas.

However, the new abilities and moves (some new abilities on previously useless pokes) really catches my attention.

Meta-game I've given up on in ORAS, but I'm tempted to start from scratch since everyone else will be, and the VGC rules will limit it to just Sun/Moon for a while.

What I want to know is if the meta game will be dominated again by familiar faces (Same 12 to 15 Pokes using the same tactics) or will said meta be broken by new tactics, or have a more diverse meta (More team compositions, more strategy, and nothing is a "safe bet" and no mirror matches)

Also curious if the main game is more challenging. And if a Post-game exists.

Remember that most games tend to get praised when they are first released. It's not until people have had time to think about it that they start to see the negatives.

I played for 4 hours and it feels like a kid's VN with no challenge. I mean shit in the first areas of the game you find something like 10 potions just lying around. Your starter has an elemental move as soon as you get him, your rival picks the pokemon weak to your choice, every trainer has only 1 pokemon that is several levels below yours.

I'm about 7-8 hours in and I haven't been enjoying it as much as I enjoyed Gen 6.

I dislike a lot of the new pokemon's designs as I think they're overly simplistic with weird color choices (like Gen 3 pokes). There are a few I'm okay with (like Rockruff) but for the most part I think these are the worst new pokes in a few generations. Alolan designs of old pokes is probably the laziest shit Gamefreak has done in years and some of their designs are awful too.

I miss XY/ORAS's bottom touchscreen functionality, you had many seamlessly integrated options (pokefinder, internet connectivity, etc) which have been replaced with a permanent and half-assed map. You can still connect to the internet anywhere but that now requires you go to the menu and visit the Festival Plaza, which transports you to a new area you can walk around in and interact with the stationary avatars of nobodies who are also connected to the internet. Doesn't appear as if you get notifications for trades/battles when you're outside of the Festival Plaza.

Game initially feels INSANELY handhold-y and railroads you in a single direction for the first few hours, thankfully it looks like it expands a little with a couple (albeit small) side areas for you to explore on the first island. You're forced to go through a Trainer School, which I believe is a first in the series. There's tons of 'take a few steps and watch story event' moments which is really grating and annoying. You also can't use your map for a few moments after every cutscene because your Rotom Dex has to give commentary after every fucking scene you just saw.

The game is in an entirely 3D environment which is neat at first but routes start to feel very same-y and barren, which is odd considering building interiors have a great amount of detail. I'm playing on a 3DSXL so this might not apply to everyone but the engine fucking chugs in certain areas and Gamefreak has opted to disable 3D since they apparently can't get it to work without making the FPS dip into single digit territory.

And finally to top it all off the game rides the Hawaiian theme hard, you'll never feel like you're not on a tropical island which is a bit of a shame. Previous games knew when to take breaks from the regional theme. Maybe I just haven't gotten to the island that opens up a bit more and feels like a considerable landmass.

That's the Gen 5 Exp System at work. Good for bringing up lower level pokemon; bad for overpowering pokemon.

I'm not sure, mine evolved somewhere around that level, can't remember exactly when but I'm certain it was on or before 36 (probably before) is it nighttime? The fluff does say something about it using the strong moon. I've found him to be a terrible disappointment, I think his sun form might be better, he just doesn't have the bulk to survive any hits, and while his speed seems decent (as far as sun/moon mons go) his attack isn't amazing enough that he can one shot the things he needs to one shot to survive.

I could be wrong, it was just the vibe I got. As for online battling… when I want to play a competitive game I've got better places to go to than pokemon.

My Rockruff is level 39 now and still hasn't evolved. I think we can confirm that it evolves through friendship. I personally never liked Pokemon that evolve through friendship, because they take far longer to evolve, depending on how good they are in battle.

It's just Battle Tower but with more an option for team mates in multi battle.
Online battling isn't post game, you can do that whenever. If that main content draw in a pokemon game, then there is no reason to play the game when you can just do online battling on pokemon shodown without grind.

The best post game is extra dungeons, new big areas or post game battle facilities that actually have a neat gimmick.

How in the fuck do you make Fomantis evolve? It's already level 33, I'm getting tired of carrying this worthless thing through fights. Leaf stone doesn't do it, leveling up during day/night doesn't do it, and leveling up near the moss rock doesn't do it.

A complete package should be a draw of a game. Back when they cared enough to put an effort into the games; pokemon use to be more than; collect some badges and then spent the rest of the time raising pokemon/multiplayer. They actually gave you a reason to explore and backtrack. Gen 6 wasn't a complete package and from what I'm hearing Gen 7 is making the same mistakes.
Wasting time doesn't make you a hard core gamer, if there is nothing to work for in the actual game; then there is no reason to put in any effort. Showdown and 3DS online have the same levels of shitty communities, showdown just gets you into the same fights faster.

Also, trials are better than every single Gym, hands down. You can't run/ball them, so they're pretty much just trainer pokemon, you can't leave without starting again, so it's just like fighting a leader's pokemon, but having to walk to them instead, and the totem pokemon are actually a slight challenge, and overlevelling won't solve everything.

But so is Kommo-o, it reminds me a lot of Hydreigon where it's balanced to be fair but compared to the likes of Garchomp makes it fall behind. Kommo-o doesn't seem to have a role that it fits in. You can run DD Physical but then DD fucks up it's balk. You can run Special but there's no point for the signature if Draco Meteor is a thing and the Fighting type would be useless since the only special fighting move it gets is Focus Blast.

You ride Pokemon to interact with environmental obstacles instead of teaching a Pokemon a compatible HM move and using it in the field. For example, Tauros can run quickly and smashes rocks.
Unfortunately, which pokemon you ride is set in stone, so you can't ride your own Gogoat or what-have-you.

does anyone else here use carbink? holy shit that thing rapes. i never used it before in any pokemon game but caught it at carat cave since it actually put up a fight. That thing has so much defense and special defense, it tanks. i use reflect then stealth rock, then just sharpen to increase the attack stat then smack down. The battles take time but no totem/kahuna regardless of advantage over it has ever beaten carbink, he even took 2 solar blades from that mantis waifu and took the werewolf z power like a champ and managed to turn it around without potions. i also put leftovers in him. im loving it.

well its def are at 150 and special def 150, but everything else sucks hp50,spd50,attck/special attack 50. with reflect, it can take some punishment even from x2 attacks and lets you set him up with some devastating moves for the rest of the matches. Im still testing it and see if it works but so far out of all my mons, its the only one to survive on its own without help.

My mvp has to be muk. Starts off with good stats as grimer, then falls off for a bit. Then it evolves and suddenly you're crushing everything with gunk shots and crunches. Now if only it got earthquake

well he comes useful for battles that have more than 3 pokmns. the first pokemon i just beef him up then unleash hell on the rest pretty much one shotting everything with its attack stat high. otherwise crobat, charjabug, grwolithe step up and finish them off faster

The game operates on a retarded day/night cycle depending on what game you have. With sun, the game is 12 hours ahead. With moon, the game is 12 hours behind.

I'd take a guess and say those tables are the same for Sun, unless it's a version exclusive. Use the image I posted alongside, and just replace the pokemon in the same position, eg Vulpix becomes Sandshrew.

I'd say the hardest thing I've gone through in the game so far was the rival battle on UlaUla where his Raichu nearly swept my entire team with psychic while I was lacking a dark or ground type at the time. Stab psychic from that thing is fucking terrifying at only level 30. My starter is evovled now so I don't have to worry about it as much.

Oh god, that thing was a fucking monster. I was just barely able to power through it with Eviolite Magneton + Tri Attack, but even resisted hits were destroying me.

The Lurantis Totem also wrecked my shit. I wasn't able to OHKO it with the fire z-move, and then it started spamming Synthesis which I couldn't actually crack while the Castform put Sunny Day up and started demolishing shit with STAB sun boosted Weather Ball. I lost two pokemon to that monster.

This is definitely the hardest nuzlocke I've ever done, even moreso than W2 on hard mode was. Granted I've never bothered with romhacks so I'm sure those are harder, but for a mainline game I can agree that it's the hardest to date.
