I like the idea of a "weapon mimic" similar to Siegfried's ending in the original Soul Blade/Edge. You pick up a cursed weapon and it binds itself to you (often painfully) and takes (some?) control away from you and you can't remove it.

The thing with Mimics are that they have to be used sparingly. Over do it and you're player will be less inclined to open chests in fear of mimics.

A good mimic is placed in a place of supposed safety. When the player feels as if they are in a safe room, possibly after getting a free heal or among other treasures in the room (lots of good loot them bam! a mimic!). Also a good mimic is strong. That way there is a real surprise and threat when encountering one. If they're a pushover like any other common enemy, then there is no worry from the player in treasure opening in the future.

Save points are Abandoned Gas Stations that run upbeat convenience store music. Game takes place from sunset to the break of sunup, & is mostly at night.

I think it could work. Just imagine Dark souls where the entire game is that slow "you never know what's behind the corner" moment.

I would want to use a small screen you can toggle on & off to see if something is sneaking up behind you. That or a handheld physically suction cupped to the corner of your monitor in the shape of a radio.

So basically Dark Souls mixed with Silent hill & some of the camera checking from that Friday nights & freddies game.

Trees are mimics, streets are mimics, rocks are mimics, even the sun can be a mimic & fuck you over by making you think it's about to rise.

Dark Souls 3 had an enemy that's pretty much like your picture.

That's actually a really good premise for a game. Lends itself easily to gameplay.

I thought of the idea while doing midnight bike rides through the woods in the dark. A lot of the time I would pass a tree or something & think "Was that tree always there", or"man, I never noticed that rock there before". It gave me vibes like the trees were walking around & then replanting themselves every time I went for a ride.

Maybe that could be worked in? Paying attention to the placement of things in the environment would be a good gameplay idea because you would always be second guessing if a house or a tree was in a different place when you revisit areas. We need more urban exploration games.

That reminds me of a source mod I read about ages ago. One team was a bunch of gardeners (I think?) while the other team disguised as a bunch of bushes, trying to murder the gardeners. It sounded like a funnier version of hide n seek.

Either way, solo or multiplayer, this concept has a lot of potential to be fun I think.

How about a souslike game with the ideas I mentioned where it's single player, but you have other players online coming into your game disguised as mimics waiting to try & kill you?

That'd also work. Better question is what the base would be. 2D or 3D? FPS or third person? You could probably just make this a Doom mod and it'd work great if you nail the aesthetic and details.

Mimics are actually timid and shy beings, they are so afraid when an adventurer approaches that they pretend to be a treasure chest and just give up treasure, so one knows if they exist.

This mythos has 2 advantages over the regular mimic:

1. It makes the gameplay twice as deep, as the player would never know if the chest they got something out of was just a regular chest or actually a mimic afraid for its life.

2. The game devs wouldn't have to program anything extra.

nigger I know about MGQ, but look at what you yourself posted, it is still an anime girl with monster parts, but the monster parts are integral to the design. Look at MGQ's mimic, only about half of her body is out, while the one I complained about only goes up to her knees. All the modern monstergirls are designed to still be able to appeal to the most vanilla faggots, while MGQ could really get nasty at times.

I was trying to go for something a bit like Gish, only as a Mimic. I'll see how well they work when I do a bit more animations (particularly when it comes to eating adventurers), I may remove them outright if I decide it works better but I do wonder if he seems a bit under-designed without them.
