i tried playing WoW just coz friends did. I can't seem to do it, despite getting well geared quickly and performing well in raids and pvp. I just can't stand the game. It's just too stale, over designed and easy.

Maybe it's because I've been spoiled by real MMOs and most people only enjoy WoW coz it's their first MMO.

The game over-rewarded people doing less in WoTLK and the trend continued till now, the end game is all about raids now instead of the fully realized virtual world that interacts with everyone, themepark design just fucking killed it. and there's less than 3 million playing anymore, but Overwatch just replaced their WoW cashcow.

I find it hard to believe they'll be adding another class to WoW after just adding the DH. Demonology just got overhauled to effectively be what you would expect from a Necromancer mechanically, so I doubt those rumors.

So, there should be some interesting developments regarding Starcraft 2 because the game is fucking dead- of course, if you ask fanboys and the scene figures (all that are Blizzard contractors, btw) they'll say "Bruh, stop with the dedgaem meme". But here are the facts:

- One year of a new expansion and a constant drip of DLCs to keep the game "fresh", it lost over 40% of the playerbase.
- Viewership is down across the board with the exception of China (because even a ridiculous small Chinese fanbase is still many times bigger than the rest of the world combined) and a couple one-in-a-lifetime-events (like a foreigner winning an event in Korea).
- SC2 popularity is all-time down in S. Korea, it was never that much popular, but no new blood came in the past few years and coupled with retirements over region-lock (making so players couldn't travel and give exposure to sponsors) and obligatory military service it means that even if the financial future of the scene was safe, it 5 years at best it would be dead.
- A Matchfixing Scandal in late 2015/early 2016 caused a world champion (Life) to be arrested and fucked up the scene a lot, sponsors are running away and the most traditional Starcraft League (Proleague), running since the turn of the millennium died, announced it won't continue next year.
- 4 of the biggest teams in South Korea (South Korea Telecom T1, Korea Telecom Rolsters, Samsung Galaxy and CJ Entus) dissolved, since they have no team league anymore - that means that about 30 pros in a scene that has around 60 pros are unemployed, together with coaches, staff, etc. and they only have a couple individual leagues left. The teams that remain include the Team of the Global Starcraft League operator (Afreeca Freecs), the pet-project of a starcraft rotten-fangirl daughter of a millionaire air-line owner (Jin-Air Greenwings) and the team of the sleazy bastards who figured out how to make money out of dead games (MVP).
- The scene in the west is not better either, of course the people hired by Blizzard are saying that the game is fine and that "downsize is healthy" but truth is commentators and pros are preparing to make the switch to other games (mostly Overwatch). ESL and Dreamhack reduced the number of SC2 events this year and they'll likely do the same next year. Also, no new blood in the west except for a 14 year old kid amidst loads of retirements too.
- Broodwar made a comeback, is getting big streamed tournaments again and getting packed halls in Korea. The biggest kick is that these tournaments are sponsored by blizzard too, something that one year ago would be unthinkable. Flash (the progamer who was nicknamed God) returned to it, rumors that when Jaedong's contract with Evil Geniuses end he'll go back to it too (and people who play BW says he is actively playing in the Korean servers using fake names preparing for next year's Starleague). Former broodwar pro-gamers are making big bucks streaming in Korea and playing in tournaments while SC2 pro-gamers can't break 1000 viewers - be it in Korea or outside of it.

Blizzard has to do something with SC2 if expects it to live for a bit more - rumors involve a massive game revamp patch, although at this point in time I don't expect blizz to do anything.
Other rumors coming mostly from Korea involve a possibly Starcraft: Brood War HD Remake with modern match-making features in order to restart interest in Korea.
The World Championship Series needs to be revamped because the scene changed enough that keping the region-locking will mean the Korean scene will die.
Others are very pessimistic and are expecting a Warcraft 4 announcement and that Blizzard will be turning off the life-support from SC2 in a year or two.

Now now, S-E charges 30 for three separate streams, totaling at 90 burgercoins if you wanna watch them all. Or just want all the minions.

And honestly, i think the Virtual Tickets are more just for MUH INGAME BONUSES then people actually watching the stream, still a ripoff tho, but i don't think anyone actually buys em just to watch.

They're probably worried over that. One thing to add is that the team for Starcraft 2 is roughly the same team that works for Heroes of the Storm, and Heroes isn't doing well either. Teams are floundering, the game never got much of a playerbase to make a splash - and its measurement-stick for success was way bigger since it was supposed to compete with LoL and DotA but ended up struggling to keep up HoN and Smite (and only doing so because of massive cash injections from Blizzard in the competitive scene). They're the lowest performing team at Blizzard and have reason to be worried.

I've never played SC2. What the hell is a co-op map?

Is there a hope of having an esport tier competitive RTS game with major sponsor money in the upcoming years?

it's a map where you play simplified campaign missions but with 1 other person and you have access to special abilities/units.

The game has a bunch of co-op missions which are like one-off campaign levels but you play them with your choice of co-op unique commanders who have special unit and upgrade options. It's not really surprising that it has more longevity than ranked since aside from minor balance patches and like 4 new units, each race in ranked has been more or less using the same shit since Wings of Liberty while the co-op commander armies are comparatively brand new content.

I don't like this thing to be honest either, SC2 is not even like WC3 where you have hero units and getting unique skins can be something to give flair to your army. And with the game player-base declining… I mean, sure, fanboys will buy anything, but I don't see it being that successful.
Still, this could've been better if they announced it 3 years ago and together with it made the ladder F2P.

I have a different idea about why there are more people playing co-op than ranked: Co-op is free-2-play with the Started Edition (free trial).

There's a difference between fan maps stuck in the goddamned awful interface of SC2's arcade to an official maps by blizzard. This is going to be played if only because the D3-fags are starved for content.
Considering that everything "new" they tried since 2010 has been disastrous I don't know if you really want it… anyway, considering their releases in the past few years, the only thing franchise they have that's due to a new game is really Warcraft.

- The Anniversary Dungeon recreates the events, monsters, and levels of the original Diablo inside Diablo III.
- Returning Boss Fights include The Butcher, The Skeleton King, Lazarus and Diablo himself.
- The Dungeon will be 16 levels deep and accessible for all existing characters.
- It will feature special visual and audio filters to invoke all that sweet nostalgia. Here is a little sneak peek of what that will look like.
- The Anniversary Dungeon will be included in "The Darkening of Tristram" patch for free. It will be on PTR next week.

Pretty much what we can expect. Nothing new, just "look we made this in 5 minutes before sending it to QA, give us shekels!" And there's no news about changing the current D3 "gameplay" which is farm your set in 10 minutes after you hit max lvl in a new season and then farm for 10-15 hours for full ancient gear and then fish for a good greater rift for 3 weeks. Fucking hell, I'm starting to think Grim Dawn isn't that bad when I remember how bad D3 is right now.

I'm enjoying the tournaments. Mad they're all taking place at the same time but its keeping me busy switching back and forth. I'm trying to be positive for a change and it's sort of working. The Diablo 3 announcement of them remaking the first Diablo in it is pretty cool. Don't even have Diablo 3 but that kind of makes me want to check it out. Diablo 1 was actually the only Diablo I ever played and I loved it. Wasn't a PC gamer when 2 came out so I never go to experience it and 3's release was so shit that I had no interest.

I watched a few SC2 tourney streams when a friend I knew loved SC2. Most of the matches suck because you're either going to see Zerg v. Zerg, Protss v. Protss, or Protoss v. Zerg. All three are really boring and dull to watch because it's the same old shit with the same old playstyles (No one uses stuff like Ultraliskes). You'll be lucky to see someone use Terrans.
