No, you just gain fewer points for winning and lose more for losing. It used to be +3/-6 for even matches above S 70 or so, now it's a little less severe than that.

Tourneyfag prime here AKA DynamiteLover. Currently we have enough people for the qualifier tomorrow (cool) but Battlefy's website continues to astonish me in terms of how shitty it is (fuck). I would like to register us for the tournament, which I should be able to do because it hasn't been seeded, but there doesn't appear to be a REGISTER button. Instead, Battlefy's infrastructure seems to still think I am part of team Callie Best Squid, which Thomas informed me he disbanded - indeed, it no longer appears under my TEAMS tab.

I have checked all the tabs and information splash screens Battlefy will show me, and the most direct method of contacting their team seems to be an email address for customer support (their normal feedback is handled through a text-based third party website, God I fucking hate millennials). I will be emailing them now and hoping something allows us to compete in the first qualifier. From what I gather, we can still participate in the second qualifier unless we win the first, so we should be able to play in at least one tournament this weekend unless their customer service is glacially slow.

Pic related is our current roster. TFE is our backup and everybody else is in the starting lineup. Tell me if you want your position to change. The qualifiers start at 4:00PM EST tomorrow, so budget time accordingly.

And I'll have to download Discord to coordinate with the TOs. Fuck this gay earth.

I suppose it's only fair to let you guys know I will be busy all weekend and thus won't be able to be the captain for the Tower Control qualifiers. As you may have noticed last week, this doesn't actually change anything for the process of playing, since the distinction of "Captain" on Battlefy is meaningless. Everybody receives the option to check in and set up battles, so you will be able to form a team and play without me.

Despite this setback, I wish the other pro MLG squid battlers in this thread the best of luck. I believe in you!

On top of that, Splatoon's amiibo series has an odd quirk; everything you unlock with them is saved to the console's save file, rather than the amiibo itself. Apart from assigning a nickname in the system menu, nothing on Wii U or 3DS actually writes any data to them. There's no significant difference between a new one or a pre-owned one, so buy whatever's cheaper.

Shitposting aside, we're pretty evenly split. Marie won the "official" splatfest to decide who was better, but her emails were hacked and there's strong evidence of rigging.

I can count the number of games which let you do that on one hand. Why would a game with a gamepad gimmick let you do that? The local multiplayer is a joke, since it requires the Wii U pro controller for player 2 and requires you play this weird local-only mode.

We know nothing about Spla2n for Nintendo Switch aside from its possible existence. The Switch apparently won't have gyro controls, so I'm skeptical of the game's potential.

I take it that there's nothing interesting going on then. Anyone in mumble right now? I'll probably check myself in a sec, but hey, never bad to ask.

Sorry about forcing you to make a new team. I have registered Inkposters Ink. for the Rainmaker qualifiers, which means the team captain doesn't need to be present. Any player can check in and set the matches up, but only the captain can register for the tournament in the first place.

To that end, I should be available next weekend. I want to have at least one weekend of success with this tournament series, because I think we'd have a lot of fun if we can get our asses in shape and assemble a roster on schedule.

Protip: if you want people to be aware of the tournament, make a post in the thread with some redtext, a link, and a time. Even if everybody already knows, it's helpful to have a visible reminder.

I would love to see an actual multiplayer area with other players walking around rather then their ghosts. A more developed overworld would be nice but it needs to serve a gameplay purpose for the devs to consider it, function first then the design is made to fit the function. The squids came after the initial idea of jumping in and out of ink which was taken from Super Mario Sunshine. Not lazy more it needs a gameplay purpose first.

That last point puzzles me the most. If you're going to make a tournament series for people who want to play the game without having to abuse quick respawn and invincibility specials, then presumably most of those players won't be tourneyfags. Is it really so hard to have a low cap on quick respawn (say, 3 subs/1 main) so people can use loadouts they already have? I may be overreacting to this, but I really don't get why they're so fucking spiteful.

Personally, I wont even consider picking it up if it doesnt have gyro.

It seemed to have gyro from the few seconds we saw during the Switch reveal trailer but Nintendo, in their infinite wisdom, decided not to tell us anything about the fucking console so it's still up in the air. After a year and a half playing with these controls, I can't possibly go back to sticks, man, but the design of the Switch Pro controller or whatever it's called and the base for putting the side pieces on don't seem to have gyro controls. Given they're apparently the correct way to play while using it as a proper video game console, it fills me with worry.

Fucking Nintendo, just tell us what the goddamn console is going to be like.
