Let's have a little fun Holla Forums.
Name 1 game that
And name another 1 game that
You can go into detail if you want.

...

You aren't helping.

Sure as hell bumped the thread though

...

Alice games is pretty easy candidate for love style/hate gameplay category.
Opposite is a bit tricky, probably Megaman Zero series? It's not like I hated its style on its own, but it was definitely a downgrade from MMX.

Is the lack of graphics and art style equals to you not liking them?

Risk of Rain.
The gameplay totally nails down the feel of psychotically murdering everything that moves, but the lack of detail on most everything sucks.
Tie between Stellaris and Sword of the Stars 2.
Both of them are the sort of thing you make a space thread OP out of, too bad the games are, respectively, balanced around the devs' in-house multiplayer sessions and retardedly convoluted.

>Memetale, what little gameplay it had I liked but that fucking art style was absolute ass.
Fuck that game, 2 fucking hours of gameplay and a "lol so meta" plot that came so close to being a neuromancer game seriously fuck you.

Second is Cortex Command. In fact, I like everything about that game, except for gameplay.

BORDERLANDS 2
Like the gameplay, in that it plays and controls well. It's very easy to get to where you're going, and do anything with relative swiftness, even in the menus. The artstyle is stolen, but I don't hate it. What I hate is FUCKING QUEERBOX, PANSY BITCHFRAUD, AND CAPTAIN CUCK being involved with it.

WAY OF THE SAMURAI (1)
Like the setting, but something about the gameplay doesn't jibe with me. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I stopped playing early on, and didn't bother going back to it.

1) nothing; if the game is fun I won't hate the look of it
2) dwarf fortress

Rabi Ribi for the first love gameplay hate artstyle.
Spiral Knights on the second.

1) Elona.
The game has amazing content, combat and general options on what to do, but has a disgusting RPG Maker look to it with some boring ass sprites and portraits. It also has a main storyline that just seems to stand between you and the sandboxing of the game.

2) LIVE A LIVE
Holy shit this game, amazing story, characters, soundtrack and ok graphics. But the combat is complete ass, this game would be perfect if it had a hack'n'slash action RPG gameplay to it instead of that turn based mess.

Capcom Vs. SNK 2. I love everything else about it, but the art style is hideous and there should have been far more stages in a game like that.
Skyward Sword. The art style and setting were the only things I liked about this game.

I mean the art direction by itself isn't bad, it's just that the fucking faces are so out of place for the kind of game it is.
Has some great aesthetics that scratches my /x/ itch, but is a shitty MMO.

Mostly this, but other character related stuff looked shitty too, like 90% of the enemies had their jaws broken and the bodies/postures of most NPCs, the only way to differentiate a male NPC from a female NPC is checking if they have beard.

is that why you posted bastion

DOOM. The gameplay is pretty good but everything else about it is super boring to me, but even this is stretching it and I don't like, love it's gameplay or anything. I struggled to think of anything for this

Tons. The Asscreed games always tend to have good settings that are well exected on but bland as shit gameplay. Dantes Inferno is another.

Biggest example is asura's wrath though. The setting and art design for that game is phenomal, as is the voice acting, music, and animation, but the gameplay is pretty crap.

But it's like 50% cutscenes and QTE's and is more or less designed to be an interactive anime anyways so it works out, and I honestly had more fun with it then I had for litterally the prior 5 years, it was like I was watching DBZ for the first time as a kid all over again

Any new game that tries to be megaman.
Easily Borderlands.

Second one is Shadow Warrior 2. First one is probably Left 4 Dead.

Terraria. No graphic design whatsoever since it's just a collection of whatever the fuck the devs thought was cool to add, but damned if it isn't fun as fuck.

Solatorobo. Such a magnificent setting, so much work and love poured into the world, and it's wasted on a puny portable game with crappy gameplay.

is this ar tonelico with furries?

Valdis Story: Abyssal City

Bastion

I never came near a PS, but judging by the video I just watched, the gameplay is completely different. Dunno about setting.

i just mean the aesthetic. grassy sky islands, vibrant medieval towns and airships with something vaguely steampunk. a really comfy combination

Mount and Blade, the game looks like trashy 2007 shit.
Street Fighter IV, I never liked fighter games except Soul Caliber.

Undertale

Original Hyperdimension Neptunia

Though I don't necicarilly HATE all of these. I just want a hunting game in a fantastical world. Imagine poaching orks, titan sized ayys or giant sea monsters.

id play the shit out of that

What is Monster Hunter

third person with no internal organs to shoot guns and bows at

Nothing remotely trying to resemble actions capable of a human being.

g3 and skyrim

That's the style, yeah.

1. Duelyst. It fucking mixes CCGs and turn-based tactics in a balanced board and manages to be fair on both Player 1 and Player 2, and uses positioning and skills to its fullest advantage to the point where a good player has a much higher winrate against a bad player unlike MtG and Hearthstone where you are lucky if you can get a 55% win ration due to RNG bullshit.
but sweet baby jesus I can't convince anyone to play it and everyone dismisses it on graphics alone.
And I don't fault them

2. Sinis of a Solar Empire.
I am crap at these kinds of strategy games.

I need to re-install that at some point.
I remember one game where it was an Abyssian mirror match, i had a board full of wraithlings and priestesses while the other guy made a little box out of the same, with whatever creature it is that deals damage when things die.
I can't remember the details, but I eventually broke the box and one-shot his general with a creep pumped up on darkfire crescendo.
It was a fucking tense match entirely because of how much positioning matters, and pretty much the only complaint I have for the game is the visibly pixellated sprites that clash with the rest of the visuals.

SSX 2012

First, DOOM. Never liked the mixing of military sci-fi with demons, that shit is weird and always rubbed me the wrong way. Creative, but I didn't like it nonetheless.

Second, STALKER. X-ray engine is tied for worst with Source engine for me. The concepts and setting are the bee's knees, though.

Ok.
I like it but it looks like it was made in RPGmaker and the lore is the standard post-post apocalyptic medieval civilization, with ancient high tech gadgets.

I liked the idea of a gsg in space and I like the races and the ships and pretty much everything about the concept except for the fact that it plays like a poorly-thought-out civ clone where there either is no late game, or late game is a tedious deadlock for 100 turns.

Cyberpunk 2077 never ever

Ill play sins with you user. Shits addicting.

I love HoMM games, but I played this right after coming off 2 and it's SO GOD DAMN UGLY. Plus any bit of distinguishing flavor that 1 and 2 had is gone in favor of ultra-generic fantasy.

A fair number of JRPGs could count if they do nothing interesting with the gameplay, but the original HN really took the cake for nice art and boring as hell gameplay.

How is /x/ these days? Any actual spooky stuff there or still a bunch of paranoid conspiracy shitposting?

Abouuut that

Granted it doesn't show up in pure Tolkien-esque fantasy, but it's certainly a cliche for the genre.

well it is by now. all i can say is back when that would have been relevant it would have been relatively new.

not as good as shadow warrior

it has no game

Skyrim

Pokemon.
It's an RPG without story, where the single player is nothing more than a slog of a grindfest where you just make do with what you have rather than building competent teams out of a plethora of available options. On top of that, the RNG is completely fucked up, and crucial things like stats are randomly determined so it can take hours to find something that isn't completely fucked. And god forbid you try to get into breeding because you'll probably spend hours just running up and down a road waiting for an egg to hatch (only to find out the stats, nature, gender, and ability aren't the ones you wanted).
Competitive Pokemon is actually really fun, but that's because I can use whatever I want and need to build a team properly instead of just saying "This is my fire guy, and this is my water guy", etc.
I want to fuck Pokemon.

i think i understand

Hotline Miami
the Final Fantasy 13's
2ez

...

This. OP is making the wild assumption that anybody here even plays games made after 2007.

Mostly conspiracy shitposting, sadly, but it has some good threads. I blame it on 7chan changing /x/ from paranormal to paranormal and conspiracy.

FTL is sort of one for the first. Or at least, it would be, if the gameplay didn't suffer from this idiotic "rogue like" shit. It should've been an open spacetravel sort, not this go-to-X rubbish. I want that, but where I can be a space pirate instead, coupled with something like Halo's ship design. Big, heavy, and with sweet ass giant guns. Not the shitty frigates in Halo 2, mind you, but the shit like the Pillar of Autumn.

As far as the second, I've not got much. There's very few games that hit that more gritty sci fi that I crave so deeply.

Personally I rather love the graphics of it, but dislike the early game. Midgame is best, when you're strong, but it is still a challenge. Lategame is stupid, but still fun, in that "HAHA RUN IN TERROR SCUM I AM DEATH INCARNATE" sort of way.

Nah, even back then it was common as fuck for fantasy IPs to include to include sci-fi elements or advanced technology. No matter how jarring as fuck it was.

Duelyst isn't that bad graphically, Vanar generals look like ass though

...

Persistence is intended. Kinda stupid for flags though because they end up as pseudo tripcodes.

There could at least be an option for names to not persist, since 99.99% of every named post is either a one-off joke or tripfaggotry.

My biggest problem with Duelyst looking past the graphics is I can't play an opponent in casual to complete quests, so I end up losing a few ranks every fucking time I get a Songhai quest because fuck that faction I hate combo and burn decks.

God the Vanar alternate General is like a parody of a tumblr butch lesbian.

Unholy War came out at least a year before HOMM3, and I know it was a cliche already when that game came out.

But they have exact the same art style?
Western attempt at making chibi anime something but failing miserably with added oversaturation.
