Ever since (((sjw))) journos proclaimed gamers to be dead I got more the feeling that video games are in fact "dead", as if there aren´t actually video games coming out anymore.
To me new vidya always had this "Whoa, I can do that? No way, this is awesome!" appeal and I was given the opportunity to have tons of fun while getting gud.
What the fuck happened? The last game I had this with is Dark Souls I and even this was quite a few years ago now, I enjoy the billionth Souls rehash as much as anyone else from time to time but Im just not getting excited about them in any way.
What I don´t get about this development is that you could actually get fucking rich from just making a good and innovative game for once. The Souls series is the best example for this: budget wasn´t really big and almost no marketing on neither Demon´s Souls nor Dark Souls I in the west, the series became fuckhuge nonetheless simply because it was good and the devs actually made an effort making a novel experience.
Fuck, just look at the Halo series prior to Reach, there was a dedicated dev team behind them that pushed the limits of what console games were capable of at that time and so Halo CE to Halo 3 ODST saved a whole console from irrelevance and the games itself and their character became such well known pop cultural icons that you could sell fucking energy drinks with them.
We all know that the endless reboots/rereleases/remakes aren´t doing too well in terms of sales and the releases of once gargantuan franchises and from super well known dev teams are only getting smaller and are rather known for their criticism and devious marketing tactics than being good games.
Making shitty games just doesn´t seem profitable to me in the long run, so why isn´t this idiocy still going on? I have opted out of playing vidya already and I know enough people that just don´t spend nearly as much money on vidya as they used to, not a single one of them is buying Skyrim 2 or Elder Scrolls Online, noone gave a shit about No Man´s Sky or Battlefield 1 or any of their ilk.
Catering to children and "casual" or better non- gamers doesn´t do this industry good in any way, it clearly isn´t underage b8 that made gaming huge and generated tons of money, they don´t have so much money to begin with and no fucking casual will spend a lot of money on a legendary-what-not edition of game or will read any novels or comics related to it.
For fucks sake Holla Forums I just want something like Rome Total War again, complete with the "What do you mean I can zoom in on a single soldier of my unit of legionaries tearing through a barbarian formation while a gigantic battles rages on all around him?" moment, thats not too much to ask for fucks sake.
