Skyrim is really only a Good Game when you install a fuck ton of mods that let you move around unhindered. Druid Essentials gives you water walk, removal of fall damage and 5x movement speed, which you can stack with the sprint enchantment. Also, "Lightning Teleport" from whatever mod that's from is the best spell ever. Point, zap, teleport. Inside, outside. Loading screen only happens if you cross a hex, which only happens outside and only takes a few seconds. Vanilla doesn't let you actually wizard properly.

Kinda disappointed it didn't point out that the entire story was ripped from Elminster the making of a mage book right down the scene where the village of Helden (book version) was destroyed by dragons who were brought back to life by the stormcloaks (wizard faction in the book iirc) either way. I think skyrim was a perfect storm for modding. To start with the game is pretty shallow but gameplay is still serviceable to build upon, the world itself is pretty generic so people are comfortable putting anything in their game, it was wildly popular so once people knew about mods they spread through Reddit like wildfire with ebin meme videos, and the game isn't too hard to mod anyway, with every file out in the open and most just coming down to activating or deactivating a .esm.

Whoever said that is wrong. Like you said, you can't make your own character. You're locked into playing as a premade character with a premade background and personality. You can't play any class besides "witcher". The combat is even worse than vanilla Skyrim. There are no mods, and there never will be, because CD Projekt never released the mod tools they promised to release.

I honestly can't tell the difference based on the little gameplay I've seen. All I can assume is they probably fixed some of the broken texture scaling and bumped the texture resolution slightly while adding some flashy shaders

Why does the DLC have a menu option? It's not like it takes you to Bethnet to buy it, because it comes with the game, and they're sure as hell not going to make more. Is it so you can turn it off if you want to?

Lower resolution, true. I still have a 4:3 monitor on this rig, and Remaster doesn't have 1280x1024. Widescreen onry, and I didn't feel like fucking with the ini. So 1280x720 was the best I could do.

Same setting in the launcher, same system. The only difference otherwise is that one of them is the product of a bunch of independent amateurs, and the other is a product of a multi-million dollar corporation with a coordinated development team and a budget.

I downloaded a copy to see how it runs compared to old Skyrim.

-The game still shits itself if you run it at unlocked framerates.
-Alt-Tab actually works now.
-God rays make the game look washed out, Depth of Field is rudimentary and therefore ugly, and the lens flare effect looks artificial as fuck, but these can be turned off.
-There are no good AA options. Both FXAA and TAA look too smudgy to me.
-The rest of the new rendering effects (Screen Space Reflections, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, Precipitation Occlusion) look good. I didn't see the snow shader in action and I can't be bothered to look for it.
-New river flow mechanics look nice.
-I noticed a large increase in draw distance with objects being rendered at a greater level of detail further away than before.
-Shadows are much smoother now and look great.

I guess it's a better baseline to mod from and a 64 bit executable means memory limits should no longer be an issue, but it's ultimately still Skyrim.

Enderal needs skse and skyui, wait for an official port since it uses a custom skyui.

Unless a mod relies on an external program like skse to run you can run it in Skyrim Special edition, you just need to decompile to .bsa and put in the loose files, or load up the new ck and recompile the bsa, I'm already using Skyrim original mods.
