I doubt it. Culture vultures are everywhere, the only culture outside our business will be corps, man. The normies who break out of the net are going to die of the measles if they're not careful, so we'll be in the Isolation Unit for a while.

Corporations taking control is one of the most featured tenants of cyberpunk. It's usually how technology is allowed to get the point that it does for the conflict of the story to take place.
I'd really like to see the Syndicate/Satellite Reign games made real.

One issue I have with cyberpunk as a genre is that no one really has an idea of how to make it their own and just follows everyone else's example, which is usually just "steal everything from blade runner and add some matrix for flavour".
When will Refn save the genre?

I really like the aesthetic of cyberpunk but wish it wasn't called that. Maybe Cyber Dystopian, as cyberpunk can't be done in a happy manner.

I'm still waiting for simstim to be a thing.

The stupid thing about cyberpunk is everyone assumes the world will be run down and grimy when in reality appearances are super important and even in contexts where some corporation is creating some bad situation they will paint bright colors on everything. Cyberpunk should be disquietingly bright and sanitary. Brazil is the closest I've seen to doing that. Arguably 2001 is kind of leaning that direction, where everything looks nice but it's all stiff and robotic and devoid of humanity.

Most of Brazil takes place in a (relatively-speaking) middle-class setting whereas Gibsonlike cyberpunk is usually slum-centric. tbh.

The Mirror's Edge games are very good example of ultra-cleanliness.
I'd argue the 2nd (prequel) is more cyberpunk, but it's shit so I can't recommend it.
