I decided to try Shinovi Versus. Why do people like these games? They're very repetitive button mashers with an incredibly stupid story about ninja girls who are either trying to grab other people's boobs or are too shy / oblivious to do anything about these advances.

Enemies sometimes drop bomb items that apply status ailments like shock, freeze, or poison. Level 3 ninpos no longer need you to be at 25% health or lower. Finishing girls with a ninpo when they're near signs with an exclamation point triggers special defeat cutscenes. Also, there are rideable mechs.. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, too.

I actually kinda enjoyed the first one because although mostly flat, some of the characters were at least somewhat interesting or relateable, and although the game was laggy and button mashy I found it killed time when I was waiting for things. note, the game is mechanically terrible, and the writing was flat. it's a bad game, but I enjoyed it regardless. the sequel games took out all of the 2 dimensional character aspects and made all of the characters flatter than flat to the point where I'm convinced none of them have character at all, put on top of that shitty broken game play mechanics, make it less challenging than the first game, and unbalance it like no tomorrow.
tl;dr: Senran Kagura is your run of the mill fanservice game. the first was shit but had potential, all later games were just shit.

Musou games in and of themselves are fairly repetitive in terms of combat after all.
