If the Norks feel the US is going to attack they will first strike Seoul with a massive portion of their MLRS/SPG/towed capabilities. The population of Seoul is over 10 million people. There are major multinational corporations vital to the global economy present there. If you thought Dresden or Sarajevo were horrific, the catastrophe of an NK first strike on Seoul would be economically, politically and strategically devastating.

This isn't Afghanistan or Iraq (both cases in which the US failed to achieve strategic victory for obvious reasons). Even if China keep their word and remain uninvolved should NK be perceived to initiate aggression first (unlikely when the US is bringing its force to bear right on your borders), the damage that NK could inflict upon (((South Korea))) is immense. For this reason it really doesn't matter whether or not their forts/cave networks are vulnerable or could be circumvented.
