What makes a city beautiful, Holla Forums? And how far would you restrict building rights to achieve this beauty?
I know a lot of you aren't particularly privy to listening to a posh British marxist/deconstructionist talk at you for 14 mins about how we should design cities, but it is definitely worth the watch. If nothing else, it's food for thought.
it's like you didn't want me to watch this all along
Landon Morales
Well, one thing for certain. It isn't post-modern art and building design that makes a city beautiful.
Asher Bell
What makes a city beautiful is prosperity. Whether you build it slowly and pay thereby a price in mortal prosperity or swiftly and effectively is just an irrelevant detail of construction… if all you're judging is beauty.
The mission of a city is to gather together the structures that best meet the needs of man. The test of a city is every other city attempting to do the same thing. Man is not made for cities, but rather are cities made for man.
Didn't watch the video, admittedly. I rarely watch videos. I can get enough to think about just in your biased assumption that restricted building rights make cities prettier, as opposed to uglier, by slowing down the rate at which they accrue what makes them truly beautiful.

teach me how to squeeze a 14 minute video into the size cap and I'll do it when I get home from work.
Watch the video. At least skip to 11:15. It contains sharp criticism of the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" nonsense that post-modernists use as an excuse to take a shit on the sidewalk and call it art.

Any city that doesn't have shitskins and has a decent economy is beautiful in my eyes.
A better question is what makes a city livable which comes down to non-pozzed zoning laws and lack of shitskins (especially niggers or arabs).

Cities have a well documented negative effect on physical and psychological health. The causes are equally well understood but are innate to urban life.
As such the only good and beautiful city is one that does not exist.

Does anyone have pictures of that area of Detroit from modern times to compare? While I loath Americans and everything about them, some of their cities were initially just about tolerable as examples of urban planning. Though that Detroit scene still shows insufficient greenery for optimum human health.

Depends on the size and level of (((diversity))). The main effect you are thinking of is called; The Bruce Effect. >en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_effect

No thats another factor in the overall problem. Lack of perceived privacy and limited living space are one of the main problems as they are the root cause of a lot of the psychological problems that urbanites develop. Depression is common in cities for a reason.
The generally filthy and polluting environment in urban areas contributes heavily to the physical ailments. The Bruce effect just contributes.

Twelve of these buildings are prisons. The other twelve are schools.

when you post a 14 minute video at least list the bullet points of what argument is being made OP
although the creator of the video is going of the state communism at times he has a point that we haven't built any beautiful cities in hte past century only mass produced garbage where every corner is shaved for a shekel of profit i do agree on his point of living streets versus dead zoning as can be experienced by anyone who has spent time in planned american cities versus organical grown european ones
however most of the video seems to be able to be summarized as american city planning and zoning laws are shit, while suburbs are the worst thing ever invented in architecture while of course ignoring the reason for that: meaning people want to be as far away from niggers as possible even paying large sums of money and doing long commutes in a society where you can't say you hate niggers
but here at /pol we all know whos fault that is remove the yid from power and watch all the problems with modern cities (and living) disappearing

Step 1: allow only white racial people in the city limits
It all comes down to whether city layout is organic or grid-like, and the connections those streets have to the center plaza or institution.
Complexity is a necessity but has to be bounded in by regulation. You also have to keep the culture and demographics the same as well, for once you start to combine outsiders' ideas onto your land, you destroy what not only made it special, but then also replaced or make bland by outsider influence.
Parker Clark
This. If there isn't SOME logical rigidity in the layout it becomes impossible to get anywhere.

Here's a question I have for Holla Forums, even if Holla Forums is not one person. In order for a city/town to truly prosper, people must care about their community. I.e., many generations must continue to live in a relatively close vecinity of one another such that trust is built over generations (e.g. "You know John from Paul St." "You know Bob from Main St."). However, in order to do this, you would have to force people to live in a confined location. I.e., people could travel all over their state freely (and over the country with a "passport"), but they would have to stay in their town. It does impede on the individuals liberty (as socialism would be), however the rewards would be quite good–people who are invested in their community & wont just "white flight" away their troubles. Of course, this would require the law to not be completely warped.
Jacob Gonzalez
My main complaint with this video is that it seems to treat city planning simply as street layout. It focuses too much on what it looks like from a bird's eye when, in reality, most people only care about what it's like to be IN the city (as they should). What the city looks like from a satellite or airplane is trivial in comparison to what an individual within the city sees or the skyline observed by an onlooker from afar.
Not a bad video, nonetheless.
Zachary Torres
An involved interconnected people make a city beautiful. Planning and architecture is but a means to the end of promoting community interaction in public spaces. The surest way to see a city degrade, be vandalized and abandoned by all but the destitute is to disregard public social spaces. Link related.
As I see it, its a two-part problem. Transportation technology advancements allow people to settle anywhere in the world for the most part. Another part is the dissolution of the idea of family and progress that I think most of Holla Forums is very familiar with.
As far as legally restricting where people can live, it won't happen and its a bad way to look at the problem. The situation will eventually correct itself. These people without roots or family will die off during the next dark age.
Anthony Peterson
Non-white workers have to live within the city as well to properly maintain it, it's not something you can avoid.

My first rule would be no more clearing natural spaces until a certain percentage of existent construction is occupied. So damned tired of driving by empty strip malls, warehouses and defunct department stores while watching bulldozers tear up hundreds year old trees/eco-systems to make more concrete parking lots.

Hey Russ bro, I love alot of Moscow, especially the cathedral, are you Orthodox?
I get you, power tools of course, but honestly, I hate McMansions and urban sprawl, thats the 'corporate building' I meant. If we could have nice city streets. Here are some pics from Wrath of Gnon's twatter, he gives an example of an abandoned mall, how it could be re-purposed into a "city state" model with apartments and small privately owned shops. You could continue this development and revert the surrounding sprawl into forests and farms.
Tyler Murphy
Example to avoid: Songdo, South Korea UN's smart city prison called Songdo in South Korea. Built in cooperation with US multinationals. If you haven't heard about it in your local media, you will eventually.
If you research, you'll notice they started shilling for it years ago. There's some articles mentioning how it's actually a prototype prison (they prefer the term "city"). In one interview, the only person they could find to talk about it positively was UN staff because no one wants to live there.
Chase Jackson
Remember how we couldn't even maintain our cities before bringing a billion diverse migrants? Fuck you kike. Even if we cared about every last shekel like you do, niggers are not cheaper since they require more prisons, cops, welfare, etc. They vastly increase costs, just look how much money Sweden is bleeding right now thanks to their "cheap" "labor".

None of them are needed anyways. In terms of beautification, that's the point of teenagers (it can be a mandatory activity throughout school). As for other jobs, the point of white people is to invent things people don't want to do. So if something is so horrible normal people wont do it, an invention will be made to do it (although, I can gaurentee you, among the whites there are a sufficient amount of people willing to do the shitty jobs that there is no need for non-whites to do them).
