Splatoon was made in a year, a port or sequel would probably take less time if they used the same engine for a sequel(they probably would). The Mario Kart game in the few seconds of footage we have shows heavy asset re-use. Zelda is launching in the same timeframe so I can't imagine it won't be a lunch title. The only one that's up in the air as to being a launch title is the new Mario game.

In other words, you'll probably get a lot of port announcements in the next few months. This is the time where you'll get the word on whether or not the Switch will get that FFVII remake port and other bullshit only normalfags give a shit about.

Splatoon was a huge success and caused a spike in WiiU sales, it was massively successful in Japan. Splatoon is a big deal and Splatoon on a portable console will get the Japanese market on-board as a launch title.

Considering that saying nothing about the Switch/NX managed to make their reveal trailer already get over 10 million views, maybe saying nothing is the best strategy at this point.

But if this shit is launching in March, my best guess is that they already have at lesta two exclusives, a special app, and twice as many Wii U ports ready to launch within a 2 to 3 month window. Even the Wii U had at least 10 launch titles, including multiplats.

WiiU had 18 games at launch. Even though most of them were just shitty sports games and ports of games no one gave a fuck about by that point(Ass Creed 3, Ass Effect 3, etc)

Look at it from this point of view. Nintendo puts out all the info now, right before the holiday season, and then…nothing. It's holiday season. Everybody spends their money on something else anyway and the hype dies down. BUT, if they hold off until after the holidays, they can build the hype to fever pitch for a couple of months with constant announcements to keep the brand in the news and drive the Q score skyward, and they don't have to compete with shit because the holidays are over and the only thing in the news are the patch notes for games that were rushed to meet holiday deadlines.

And honestly, I'd be happy with some quality ports of Wii U games, provided there's more to the launch library than that. Especially if those launch titles are multiplayer (like Splatoon, Mario Kart, and Smash all are).

At the moment, all I want to know is if this switch thing can handle Ps4/Xbone games on a "might as well" porting level. If Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest XI, and Sonic Mania end up being on it. That would be incentive enough along with the usual things Nintendo throws at it.

It's hard to get exited for it though since we don't really know much about any of the games they did show. Is Mario Kart just an expansion of 8? (Which I honestly wouldn't mind for launch.) I think people are looking at this the wrong way. While it is true that the Switch is kind of the successor to the Wii U and the 3DS, it is highly unlikely that Nintendo will just cut off support for these two systems as soon as the Switch is released, especially when it seems like right now it may take some time for the Switch to really get going, possibly due to a small launch library. It would be wise to continue supporting the 3DS and the Wii U for a little while longer. Heck, the Switch's release is probably the perfect time to drop the price of Wii U's down to 150. When the first DS came out, Gameboy Advance was still selling well and Nintendo was still pushing the SP for a good while and producing GBA titles and that was with backwards compatibility on the DS & DS Lite.

Considering there will be no Wii U backwards compatibility on the Switch as far as we can tell, trying to sell the Wii U or 3DS as the budget choice seems perfectly reasonable.

Now, compare this to the NX, where we don't know jack shit about the specs, don't know how portable it really is, and the only game currently announced for the system is Breath of the Wild, which will also be on the WiiU. The warning flags are flying high.

Of course not, it didn't take that long to develop simple 8 bit games. A few weeks and you had your NES launch title done, another few ports from arcade and where good to go.
Nowadays a games takes 3-5 years to develop and being a launch title means you're going to develop for the previous gen and then port it over.
So the first worthwhile games for a platform don't appear until 3 years in like GTA SA and GT4 for the PS2.

Well everyone thought that the Switch was going to be the successor to both the Wii U and 3DS but Nintendo only recently clarified that it's a Wii U successor and the 3DS will get it's own handheld successor.

The 3DS will most likely continue getting games at least to 2018 thanks to 3rd parties (if the NDS is any indication of how long they stick around for).

Motherfucker they've already stopped production and circulation of Wii-Us in Europe, and have almost zero plans for new games beyond Elder Scrolls: Hyrule Mod Edition, which was ripped away from it to become a launch title for this mismanaged mess. The 3DS will probably survive another year or so, but Nintendo wants nothing more than to throw the baby out with the bathwater nowadays and you can be sure they pull the plug on supporting it eventually, because if there's one thing executives can be counted on to do, it's to double down and shit on the market if reality doesn't match with their poorly conceived presumptions.
