They made it easier by lowering the Gym Leader's level and handing out Legendaries like if it was candy. Soaring was a gimmick. The Blissey bases and the NEO-Magma was nice. Not to mention it shits on the Sky Pillar and the whole delta episode being shit.

I have conquered all of them save for Super Multies. I never said I play the game for the story, I am just saying I like Neo Magma. They are cool, that is all. The Core gameplay does gets better but the issue lies in the content.

Blissey Bases, Excellent online introducing Wonder Trade, mega stones which you may bitch about the designs but it added further depth to combat allowing for mons that were slipping in usefulness to become fun once again. I haven't played Gen 5 so I really don't want to list too much more since I can't directly compare it to the previous gen, but it is genuine better in noticeable ways.

Drastic on mobile is better than pretty much any PC emulator and better optimized too. It can render the games at 2x even on a shitty 4yo phone while keeping a stable framerate and has Antialiasing and all that shit. It also has the benefit of touch controls and if your phone has a stylus then you are ready to go.

The only criticisms I have about it is that I wish it had alternate forms where the coverings are based on other popular pokemon, and that it had an evolution, but the problem is it makes sense to want to be pikachu only and I also don't want mimikyu to change at all.

There's something I noticed with the leak that's been floating around. There are two "empty" slots after Mimikyu. I assume one is for when the head droops after getting hit, and the other is for the ghost/fairy/whatever totem Pokemon trial thing. The question is whether my assumption is correct or not.

One thing I noticed from the demo that I hope is in the main game is that rather than sending a pokemon straight to the pc when you have a full party you get the option to swap out a pokemon in your team instead.

I feel like that might be a thing, they seem to be very interested in streamlining a lot of the gameplay. I'm going to be pedantic about some gimmicks here. Triples and Rotations are still retained in Gen 6, although barely. Mega Evolution is still in 7 and there will probably be new ones eventually. Growing berries is a straight upgrade to Gen 2's system, although I'm equally upset about their on again off again nature. Amie has a replacement that's basically the same, as are the two varieties of secret bases, although I would argue that changes to the contest formula from 3 to 4 could warrant a split. Riding Pokemon is still sort of in 7, I dunno if you want to count the new HM replacement.

What I will say in defense to some of these drop features is there is an 'awareness' that gamefreak has in doing it as they say they want to have the outdated games have some greater replayability by having things exclusive to them.

I mean I feel amie is better than following pokemon when it comes to interacting with your pokemon, at least with having the models of pokemon particularly the larger ones, but I do think it should have been a returning feature in the gen 5 games considering the theme of those games was relationship between human and pokemon, a lore explanation that pokemon would follow their trainers before the invention of pokeballs, and the fact that they all had overworld sprites thanks to the entralink.

Riding pokemon and using them for HM beats XYs riding in every single way. Its not just a shitty gimmick for half a route that you never need to go back to, anymore. Also, riding a tauros to go fast is neat.

Seeing as we're ramping up to 3.3 gig, almost double XY and ORAS, which were 1.7, I really want a pokemon game that's more like the anime in that there is thousands of NPCs, rather than a couple hundred.

Now, XY had people walking around Lumcity, but god damn it, I want the place to feel alive and have more than 3 houses. Bonus points if routes have trainers that switch places, so revisiting a route has a meaning, and you can see new pokemon/team comps.

And about the Switch.

They announced a Zelda Mario and Pokemon game within 6 months. I doubt it will be a port of Sun/Moon, but wouldnt rule out Pokken. What I truly want to see is a new spinoff like Darkness, stadium or snap.

I'm not sure I'd say it has a better atmosphere than any other game after it, but it is certainly a strong contender. It feels like rural Japan, moreso than any other game set in Japan. Honestly the only games that have come close to that level of good atmosphere is parts of Unova and what I've seen so far of Alola.

I might be a little biased not because of nostalgia but of how much fucking time I spent in Johto, but it is still pretty good and the remake only enhanced this, with it having the most tiny details of any Pokemon game. Different footstep sounds, being more willing to make the ground seem interesting than just a tileset, and especially the change in instruments between Ecruteak and Cianwood.

There seemed to be walking NPCs in the demo. I don't expect much decent NPC wise though, that seems like the kind of thing GF would not give the least kind of a shit about. There do seem to be a lot of towns though, if you take a close look at the map.

I'm still rather disappointed there's not more variants of this little fellow.

I only ever hear its fans talk about it having 2 regions. If gen2 was so great, then why do players generally care more about re-visiting the old region than the new region that was introduced? Also, while having 2 regions sounds impressive on first glance, its Kanto is barren with little to do. HGSS fixed it a little bit with the PalPark and allowing you to catch Mewtwo, but it's still very empty. I whizzed through Kanto in a couple hours and never went back, while the Battle Frontier in gen3/4 has kept me occupied on and off since release.
I don't hate Johto, and while it's not my favorite region I do like it. (even if I do find it somewhat forgettable) The problem is just that people who claim gen2 is a favorite seem to like it more for Kanto than Johto.

Not-Hawaii probably lends itself to a more realistic design than Pokemon usually does; it's not hyper-dense population like Japan, an island so it's naturally closed off, and has incredible variation in environment.

HG and SS reminded us all that Johto has not aged well, game design wise. They had to add a new area with actual high level Pokemon to fight.

This is disapointing. The new Pokes have 4 or 5 good ones, but some feel out of place or just fodder for lower tiers/early trainers. The Ultra Beasts stick out like a sore thumb especially. And all the alola-version Pokemon have been shown off. Aside from Diglet and Geodude, I'd have expected many more surprises. Kinda disappointed.

Deucideye is best, even if the name is bullshit and the animations on the wings turning into hands/cloak looks awkward as fuck. Can't decide if I'd use it or what starter I'd pick if I used Exeggutor.

Why the fuck do people who haven't played games argue about this shit? Mankey, the only fighting type you could get before Brock, couldn't be got except in Yellow version. Nidoran (both) didn't learn double kick for fucking ages and Charmander didn't get easy mode metal claw.
The only grass types you could get before Misty was Bellsprout, and to do that you had to walk half way up to Bill, and the only electric type was pikachu, which had a lower spawn rate in the Viridian Forest and could be missed if you didn't have a guide.

And if you train them up well enough you unlock their limit break or their finisher or whatever, and they have that super game-breaking move that you can use to clear the final boss handily.

It had a really really terrible version of the ev system, which gen 3 fixed

1. Fucked up turn order that only applies damage from poison/burn/etc after you get off a move and if the opponent doesn't get knocked out
2. Fucked up calculations all around, from moves that later had to be fixed, to just broken mechanics that had to be thrown out like the DV system
3. Roar can miss if the opp is playing with acc raises and drops
4. Completely random DVs
5. MAX EVs FOR EVERY STAT, HOPE YOU LIKE GRINDING FAG
6. Lack of variety in the meta game not caused by a lack of creativity but by a lack of actually usable pokemon
This is just off the top of my head from having cleared the gen recently with a friend (including Stadium 2). Gen 2 has a lot going for it, but the battle system is broken as fuck and that becomes extremely obvious when you push it's limits or play it past the trainers in the game.

I probably should add that I know for sure I'll be using the grass starter, I'm not sure of the rest of my team. Does anyone have any reccomendations for which pokemon are used? Any underrated gems? How do you guys determine your team?
