To my knowledge it has zero physical backwards compatibility. Zilch. Even with PS3 games, though admittedly to my knowledge trying to have both the PS3 and PS4 architecture would probably prompt something worse than the PS3's infamous initial pricetag. The fact that it has no PS1 compatibility either is baffling though, as the PS2 and PS3 both had physical backwards compatibility with it (even after the PS3 dropped PS2 compatibility), and the PSP and Vita are at least capable of playing most PS1 games digitally.

They've been working at getting the PS4 to play PS2 games, but they're digital only and you'd essentially have to drop money on them again even if you own them to play them on the system.

Not even on the PSN? That's fucking silly, cause I know the Xboner allows you to buy Dark Souls. I know plenty of people would probably pay for Demon's Souls for the PS4, even if it's not updated, just as a compatibility patch or whatever to run on the PS4.

Yeah, as far as I'm aware, the Playsation Store there just offers "HD" PS2 games with added trophies (of which there's a small but growing library thus far, including Wild Arms 3 and Dark Cloud 2) and PS4 games. Look at any PS1 game on their online storefront and they're just PS3, PSP, and or Vita.

But yeah, the idea that even the PS1 digital compatibility was dropped is astounding, since there's never been any issues with them keeping at least it before.
