What reason is there to use Linux instead of pirated Windows?

its not my job to educate you

Windows turns you into a lesbian but not the cute 2d kind the tumblr kind

Puppy Linux is cute

Linux will make your feet small and you're waifu real

No thanks

...

Anyone here use Linux + nothing because modern vidya is shit?

I use Linux + Windows on a VM with GPU passtrough and laugh at plebs that can't into computing.

GNU is Not Unix haha, so hip and witty :^)

Protip: Das just using windows.

If you need to ask then none.

I installed it on my laptop because I wanted to try it. It's fine for the uni work I do on it. It works slightly faster and more reliably than the W8 that came on it. I'm not really into ricing or tweaking the shit out of my OS so I just use standard Ubuntu with Unity. I know most Linux autists will cringe at that and that's fine. I've been thinking about trying something that requires a little more hands on approach but can't be fucked to deal with it at the moment.

Absolutely no idea who the fuck would use Linux and a console as their gaming device. You're basically just playing on a console at that point.

Why are you here?

BOTNET

Maybe, but it can't phone home, which is the whole reason Windows is bad m'kay. Well, that and it's a horrifying mess of spaghetti code whose only redeeming feature is vidya. But seriously, I only use the VM for vidya and software that has no FOSS alternative.

Seeing how much shit works on Linux makes me want to jump to Debian, but it's fucking hassle to uproot from 7. If my .exe's for console shit worked entirely, I'd be alright. Same with H games.

You don't get viruses ever. :^)

I like discussing and playing video games. I just haven't found a single worthwhile game in the past few years, so I've been replaying classic games instead.

Fair enough. No GNUlag for you.

I've played a few Steam games on Mint. Two or three of them had issues that made them unplayable, and after that Steam somehow shat itself–or something shat on it–in a way that caused the entire Mint package management and update system to become non-functional. I had to paste in some command line voodoo to get Steam removed. I don't think I'll be installing it again.

So yeah not an encouraging experience.

...

Almost every PC gamer uses Steam.

pls die

Every steam user is a cuck

Why do I get the feeling that you're trying to instigate an arbitrary argument so people will focus on that instead of Linux having problems?

...

...

Probably because you want to justify slurping Gabe's penis

No, we are not playing this game.

You are a Linux fanboy trying to do damage control. You don't want anyone talking about Linux having issues.

What's preventing you from jumping ship?

It's not the OS's fault you're retarded

General .exe's for PS2 and Xbox shit, injectors for GBA/SNES shit for DS, shit like this. Some work with WINE, some don't. Given I need it more often than not, rather not discard it.

Also AA2.

I didn't do anything retarded.

To be fair, you used mint.
But it's shilled so heavily that you can't really be held accountable for that.

...

Fuck off. You're trying to change the subject again.

Here is my post again:

To be fair, if you're not comfortable interacting with a terminal you shouldn't be using Linux. "It just works" and "it's ready for normalfags" are jokes.

Quit taking the bait, fuckstick

Found the problem.

I know that now.

It's not bait, it's fanboyism.

Here is my post again:

I'm a game developer, and Linux has been my work machine ever since I began learning to program.

…Yes, for playing games, I generally use a dedicated game console rather than Linux. orz

Muh botnet meme.

A guy I used to work with did, he liked his cancer quarantined on the console. Wasn't a big gamer.

All human behavior is a meme, doesn't mean it's not true.

I used to, and my console was a Wii U, but I got rid of my Wii U when it stopped getting good games, and waiting until Zelda wasn't good enough for me. Now it's just Linux + Emulators.

There's really nothing that wrong with Unity, once you purge the adware (I think it's supposed to be opt-in these days anyway). Unity is shit because it's inflexible, not heavily customizable, and incredibly simple, with a big annoying bar on the side of the screen. If none of that bothers you and it does everything you need, then there's really nothing to cringe at.

Most Linux DEs these days are shit. I've heard that Cinnamon and Mate are alright. LXDE works if you want something super fucking light. I have no idea what's up with XFCE lately (used it as a primary DE shortly after Gnome 3 landed), but the rest of them are so fucking garbage, with gallons of bloat. I don't even use a DE anymore because it all sucks so hard. A simple tiling WM (Awesome WM) is all I've needed for a while.

...

I have been thinking of doing the same but don't have the space for two screens.

Install VirtualBox and put TinyXP in a VM.

I had the exact same problem and this works for dealing with programs that are incompatible with Wine. Now when I need XP I just double click an icon on my desktop and watch it boot in a window. Get the extension pack and you drag and drop or copy and paste between the two OSes.

And this works well on an old 1st gen duocore laptop from 10 years ago. You don't need modern hardware as with the typical VM + PCI passthrough setup recommended for playing games.

...

With linux you can't waste your time playing videogames

I stopped using Linux on PC in 2014 (after 20 years) and I switched from PC gaming to console in 2016 (after 23 years).
So guess I'm using Sony's FreeBSD for gaming now and Win7 for everything else.

Yes.

...

Oh, cool shit. Might consider than then.

Huh, I have dual boot but never considered using a VM, what are the downsides?

I use Linux + emulation.

Daily reminder that running Windows in a VM is still running Windows and therefore haram.

There is absolutely nothing "locked down", if you grant GPU access to a VM. The bus-mastering GPU can access the entire hardware including Linux memory contents without any restrictions.
In fact there is not much difference between this and running a Linux VM on Windows 10.

You need two graphics cards (e.g. Intel+NVIDIA) and it takes a lot of fiddling with stuff to get things going. Also for GPU passthrough you need to use UEFI rather than BIOS for both the host and guest OSes.
wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF

You can use ReactOS then.

And another reminder that using emulation to play proprietary games or using a FLOSS emulator that requires a BIOS file is haram

onpon4.github.io/other/gaming-trap/#emulators

...

I'm trying different distros, but the GUIs always feel clunky and awkward.

Projecting a bit there, user?

Me

The distro doesn't make the DE. You can make any distro look like any other distro. Don't choose a distro based on the default UI. You choose a distro based on the package management and the distro management.

Try the big DEs and stick with which one feels best for you:

Heavy and inflexible:
GNOME

Heavy and insanely flexible:
KDE

Medium weight and flexible:
Cinnamon

Light and flexible:
Mate, XFCE

Flyweight:
XFCE

Poweruser:
Awesome, i3, openbox, dwm

I have no idea:
Enlightenment, RazorQt

Plasma 5 is actually quite a bit lighter than KDE4 and Gnome Shell. It's still kinda buggy though.

FSF are a bunch of uppity cunts. They can stick their opinions where the sun don't shine.

IRL lesbians are just fat, unkept dykes, though

Just one more reason 2D is better than 3DPD. 2D lesbians are always cute.

If e18 packages were ever up to date it'd fly, I just never liked the default control. Also never liked sloppy focus until I learned how useful it could be.

Anyone here ever used the obscure WMs like UDE? I could never get used to that shit with middlemouse spawning the context menu.

Gay

...

There is none. Pirated windows 7 is quick, easy to use and works with most vidya.

Linux is for when you want more freedom and when you want the world to know that you're a raging homosexual who feels superior to everyone else.

so, can i play all my games in linux now?

KDE got the furry artist Tyson Tan to rework all it's mascots.

Get your non-free shit outta here.

Between native ports, Wine and emulators…. Probably about 75-80% of them.

Delete your life.

NORMALFAGS GET THE FUCK OFF MY BOARD

CHECKED

Don't get mad at me just because you want to fug to Kiki (you sick fuck).

I hope you know I'm not clicking a single one of these.

You realize that images that happen to have been posted on tumblr show up in google searches like everything else right?

When did Linux threads get flooded with people like this?

Sure, user. Whatever you say.

good goy

Which console are we talking about here OP?

It's funny that nobody came up with that when macfags were running windows in a vm just to use MS Office because they needed it for school.

You think that's annoying? I had to figure out a workaround to steam not launching most of the time on Arch, which was tied to using the native runtime libraries, because microphone support wasn't working on the steam libraries (still isn't), there are like 2 or 3 libs that steam doesn't like on the native runtimes so I have to wrap the command for launching steam into a loop until it finally decides those libs aren't a problem any more, which can take upwards of 8+ launches. The fact that it eventually works is fucking baffling, and the inconsistency of it refusing to work makes it worse.

Lemme guess, you use CuckCuckGo for everything? Like it or not, Jewggle gets the best search results.

That's it fuck gnome

Would you mind not posting furry shit?

>Google

What's up with you my dude?

They all either do that or they are unusable shit. Pick you poison.

...

No. But there's only one worth a damn.

I can post more, if you wana bitch about it.

wew shit hit the fan in this thread pretty fast

startpage is alright

smh tbh fam

startpage is just an aggregator though.

What did I post that you'd get a ban for?

Really? You would think there would be more by now, like someone would have made another one.

do you know the rules?
you seem to be a halfchan crossposter so that's a legit question

I know what I posted is no worse than what you'd see in a Sonic or Freedom Planet thread. And no I barely ever used half-chan.

your images have halfchan filenames so I doubt that
but you still didn't answer by question; do you know the rules?

I got most of those images from a Krita thread on Holla Forums, user. So tell me, what rule have I broken?

They would be funnier if the latest KDE upgrade didn't fuck over my favorite programs.

My nigger.

5.8? That's been working pretty well for me.

so your answer is no?
you didn't break a rule, but he was attempting to get you to break one
rule 3 basically says if you make 4 or more posts with lewd images you're fucked, if you had fallen for his bait you would be banned the next time a hotpocket came around

Cuckchan's Holla Forums? I think the Holla Forums here use hashed filenames instead of unix ones.
What said. You really should read the rules page lad to avoid being b& in the future.
8ch.net/v/rules.html
Hell, a hotpocket might be a little upset that you made even 3 posts with NSFW images and ban you for that alone.

This is what you get for not reading the rules.

That change only happened a few months ago, after the thread about Krita that had porn.

And nobody reads the suggestions you call rules.

You do realize that plenty of threads get filled with lewd shit, and usually so long as it pertains to vidya it ends up staying because the mods don't get triggered like tumblr fags. Even times when it isn't vidya, they usually don't bother with it.

When the switch happened the Unix filenames were around 1472, his ones are 1476, which is after the switch.

Why do so many people forget that those filenames are timestamps?

It's Unix time you fagboat.

the reason they stay untouched is because nobody reports them
the mods can't deal with posts they don't even know are there

care to give a few directions ?
There are so many how-tos, faqs and video tutorials about this and none says the same shit, pretty confusing.

What distro do you use, how much tweaking were you willing to do between base install and final setup, and did you use any existing guide to setup which VM with gpu passthrough ?

please

my CPU is compatible skylake 6600K (has VT-d)

And I didn't even post any of those lewds.

I made exactly one post with yuri lewds. None of my other posts have any. So, why the ban?

All these fags like you that can't into gud hardware and passthrough with IOMMU. Keep giving Microsoft access to your bare metal, plebians. Meanwhile I'll enjoy the best world: linux desktop for everything, and a Windows VM with GPU passthrough for the rare DX10 game.

tee hee

Chances are high you already have KVM loaded in the default kernel. so the other major steps are to ensure VT-d is actually enabled in the BIOS, and install QEMU to create your Windows VM.

You mean DX11?

Fag got triggered and probably assumed you were spamming furry porn without looking at the spoilers.

That happen often?

I remember seeing that thread on Holla Forums before the change, maybe he does what I do and changes the number slightly before uploading it to prevent tracking.

I'm the one who first suggested that the 4chan-X userscript translate timestamps to local time years back on /g/. In a GNU/Linux thread most people ought to know about epoch time.

I got to give it a try, but can't pick a distro, too much choice :p
Also find a way to backup my SSD before beginning in case I fuck up too much and can't even boot windows anymore.

fucking pleb

I'd say it's once in a while, there's still a few stragglers from outside sources lurking.

...

You can't honestly expect volunteers who do it for free to verify reports before pressing the ban button, can you?

Apparently not. Not that that's anything new.

echo $(date +%s) | cat

What gaem is that?

that mp4 was heartwrenching

you're not very smart cuck

hold up kids we got a ricer in our ranks

That was part of a test I did to see how much I could accomplish without a graphical interface.
Turns out, there's not a whole hell of a lot you can't do.
mplayer can play video from within tmux, but other players need to be run from a pure terminal

I don't care if he's a furry or fucks plush animals or whatever, but his mother is objectively fucking crazy.

yeah you didn't have to say that

Why would you use Linux AND the most proprietary closed platform type there is? You're either a freetard who supports free and open source software or you're a proprietarycuck that doesn't care about that and just wants what you find to be the most convenient. You are nothing but a hypocritical faggot and you are the worst kind of person, kill yourself homo.

None of that shit was even lewd. That user was just being triggered.

Why do Jewgle shills even bother coming here?

Or you're a sane person who tolerates only so much proprietary shit without going full freetard.

Anyone has the webm of Stallman getting pissed off because some guy is asking too many questions at the same time?

Stallman is autistic AF, so you're going to have to be more specific.

But if you use Linux and consolos you're just on the extremes. Tolerating "only so much" proprietary shit would just be something like using Windows which isn't open source but at least it's an open platform that you can install on whatever hardware you want. Tell me how you install games that don't get approved by Michealsoft or $ony on your Xbone or P$4, or upgrade your hardware to suit your needs. Protip: you can't because it's a closed platform.

You pretty much have to tolerate some proprietary crap running on your PC, even with Linux. At the very minimum, most every CPU and graphics cards require signed firmware blobs (part of the reason I'm hanging on to my GTX 780 is that it's one of the last cards without that shit).

Not saying it's a good thing, but it's just the way things are.

Been happily Linux-exclusive (outside of dabbling in BSD for a bit) since 2008.

I suggest my fellow comrades on Holla Forums to make the switch, for both performance boost (less bloat) and getting ready to become a superuser.

VT-d support is pretty scare in Desktop CPUs and mainboards.

I'm aware, the point is just that there is little reason to use Linux if you don't care about FOSS to the extent that you'd actually consider using a console. I mean you can emulate almost every good console game anyways and almost every other game can be played in a Wangblows VM with GPU passthrough. I simply don't understand why homolomos like OP would use both.

Consoles are for dummies that don't into computers and don't care about muh freedoms
Binbows PCs are for individuals that are every so slightly competent at computer and care about the freedom to do whatever they want on the operating system
GNU/Linux is for individuals that are very competent with computer and get a raging erection from the idea of free and open source software that might tolerate some proprietary shit but wouldn't dare touch a system as grossly proprietary as a console.

How good is Wine nowadays? The only thing really keeping me from going full loonix is no gaems. That and a good image viewer. Honeyview is so good but windows-only.

I dunno. As it is, GNU/Linux has more games than any current console. And you don't have to be a freetard to want nothing to do with Win10.

It's pretty good with Xp-7 era stuff. Anything newer may be a problem.

please only talk when you are versed on the subject

...

Post like an adult.

The face old men make when the fart?

you just went full retard

That's fine because nothing new is really worth playing anyway.

t. linuxcuck

I exclude W10 from any of these because surely noone with a single brain cell actually wants that shit, I just assume they want to play on Windows 7 with none of the telemetry updates (and therefore severe security problems which is why that shit needs to be contained in a VM).

...

says the stockholm syndrome faggot that's too cucked to kikerosoft to use different operating systems

go back to reddit faggot, there you can be a memester all you want

Strangely good, I haven't run into issues for awhile though you can't expect it to work with DX11 games so you need a VM with GPU passthrough for that. Even Dark Souls 1 of all games somehow works on it without any significant problems, the only trouble I ever have with binbows games is trying to get the buttons on the 360 controller mapped correctly (DS3s work straight out of the box but most games don't support them).

If I was a mother I wouldn't let my son bring a furry plushie with a fleshlight in it to a vacation house where young children will be staying.

But any other kind of sex toy would be fine?

Which is why these threads are becoming more prevalent when 5 years ago they were non-existent. If PC gaming was as good as it was 15 years ago GNU/Linux would be laughed at for not being able to play anything worthwhile.

What are *nix users missing out on nowadays? As W10 becomes even worse and is required to play the newest shit games there will be even fewer reasons to not make the switch to a better alternative.

I can see Linux with a 6-7% market share in five years or so. But don't expect major shifts until Win7 is no longer an option.

No need to be a crazy bitch about it.

No it would not be fine. No furious masturbating in a small cabin with kids in it. She even said he could leave it in the car and go do it there but nope he's too autistic for that.

If you define Linux as any distro using it I would expect to see very noteworthy numbers if the rumored merger between Android and ChromeOS happens next year and it becomes to go-to casual/work OS to replace Binbows and OSX. As shit as Jewgle is, this would be a nice situation since compatibility between an x86 Android and other nix distros would be much easier than shit like WINE and someone could just fork Android to remove all the telemetry stuff anyways (which has likely already happened).

I hope you never have kids because they'll just end up as spoiled brats. What she should have done is put down an ultimatum like "leave the plushie home or I lock your computer away for two weeks"

Personally, I'd rather have GNU/Linux than Android/ChromOS on the desktop. There is no reason it can't be just as convenient for normal users (especially with the advent of AppImages and Snap/Flatpak).

So you're giving up gaming a a hobby?

You really think there's a linux distro that is at the point where it'd be easier than (or easy as) Android for regular users? I haven't used those programs you're talking about but I find it hard to beleive that the average Joe will find even something like Ubuntu with those to be even comparable to Android. You must keep in mind that if they have to open up a terminal, fuck around with drivers, or have anything not "just werk" at any point they will immediately drop it and go back to what they're used to.

I might actually consider using a fork of Android myself just because tag based file browsers are far better than folders for stuff like images, music, and video but I can't find a good one on GNU/Linux

AppImages are Linux applications you just download and run from a folder of your choosing.
There have been GUIs for updating and installing software for ages.

Come to think of it, AppImage would be a better way to distribute games than tarballs, Mojo installers or .deb/RPM files.

Look who it is again, ID 000000. I'm fed up with your shit faggot. The other day when you called me a newfag, yeah, haven't forgotten about that yet. Fuck you I've been on here for months and probably get on here more than you anyways. Don't you know that you make yourself look like a newfag when you call others newfag? Just because you learned how to hack your name and change it to "000000" does not give you the right to disrespect anyone at any time.

AppImage is cancer and will ruin everything linux worked hard to achieve
Instead, a simple system that only requires developers to package their applications to an intermediary and new packaging system that can then take care of properly translating it into distribution specific formats (.deb, .rpm, etc) and of managing the developer's repositories is the appropriate solution

How is an Appimage any worse than a tarball loaded with all the libs needed to run a game? It's not. And good luck getting anyone to develop that packaging system.

Doesn't really work like that after they turn 18. Or maybe it does work on weaklings, I wouldn't know. When I turned 18 and my parents tried something like that, I just packed my shit and disappeared for 3 years.

In any case, I'm just saying that while the guy is pretty fucking autistic and a degenerate, he's not the crazy one in this video. I'd much rather have him than her as a relative.

reminds me of how my parents told my brother he's either keeping his computer or staying fat, but they are much fatter than him (americans on scooters tier) and feed him solely on cookies, fries, chicken, everything cooked on butter and they all eat powdered milk with spoons

I assumed the video was of a manchild who still lived with his mother, and I think ultimatums would work fine as long as you live in the same house.

I'd use Linux if it had better video editors besides Lightworks. The moment publishers stop support for Windows 7, though, I'm bailing to Mint.

The only reason I'm on windows 7 is for Lightroom. I can deal with gimp and such for my various Photoshop needs (which basically consists of masking for photographers) but I can't do without Lightroom. Darktable is garbage in comparison.

Are AppImages like zeroinstall stuff? I haven't ever used one, I've either used a repo or compiled from source.

I think you're retarded. At least make a valid argument, like not having as much control over the installation as ports or portage.

I don't do much video editting, but I thought Blender had decent support there? Not really designed for it, I guess.

AppImages are basically .dmg files for GNU/Linux. Download them; mark them executable, and your done.

Huh. Weird. Though after using .dmg stuff, I will say I prefer tarballs with executables. AppImages are probably easier than that, though, if I understand properly.

Basically, all you need to do is download an Appimage and it'll just run from whatever folder you put it in. The advantage that it has over Snaps and Flatpak is that they do not require systemd to work.

You can try out Krita's appimage if you want.

krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/

I like it already. It does sound like zeroinstall, but not needing to run zeroinstall or an equivalent to run the application which is nice.

They also mean you can have multiple versions of an application installed without any hassle.

I found the interface unfamiliar.

Speaking of, I'm also too retarded to get QBittorrent working on Mint. Pale Moon just refuses to cooperate with directly opening the .torrent file or magnet link for some reason.

Blender VSE is actually a pretty powerful editor, but it comes with a fairly steep learning curve.

So this appimage thing is just a statically linked executable?
Wow, revolutionary.

Covenient is another word for it. Which is all normalfags care about. Cant make it much easier than 'download and click to run'.

Since it ships with KDE it uses a different file manager than what I have set up which was an interesting change. Appimages let you try out different system components as well.

Seriously? Just go to Preferences and select your torrent client for magnet in the applications tab. For torrent files I'm pretty sure you can select 'Always do this from now on' when the save as window pop ups and select open with QBittorrent.

Do a search on your hard drive for QBittorrent or view the properties on a shortcut for it to find where the bin is. It's probably in usr/bin

Yeah. That is one nice about the Krita appimage. It lets you not have half of the KDE desktop installed on your system, just to run it.

Oh boy, I like where this is going.

It's not bad if you have proper rights manegement.

some random jewtube embed of gameplay

if you cared about overcomplexity at that, then where's the complaining about glibc or polkit and jumping to OpenBSD or Plan 9/9front?

that aside, have you tried reinstalling qbittorrent? either that, or i'm guessing you just have to download the .torrent file to some junk folder

because grabbing a distro's unmaintained version of an old program from Synaptic is more direct amirite

Newer AppImages have sandboxing. Besides, it's not like anyone is pushing for these to replace package managers. They're just for edge cases, like having latest builds of an application in non-rolling distros, multiple versions of the same application, distributing proprietary games in a distro agnostic fasion, ect.

Ten billion flies eat shit every day, they can't all be wrong.

If you're a fly and you aren't eating shit then, you're a hipster. :^)

Blender's video editor is rad as hell but you're correct in saying it wasn't designed for it. It's the little stuff like how you can't pipe a video file into it (or right click->open in blender) so you have to open up blender, go to the video editor window, and open the file from there. I'm just waiting for the day when Blender really does become the best all around tool for absolutely everything, 2D image editing, rendering, animation, modeling, etc. That would be extremely convenient for sure.

Still beats Kdenlive, Pitivi and Openshot by a mile. I don't have any experience with LightWorks, but Blender is at least the best libre NLE.

Blender VSE (which isn't a real editor, but a sequencer) is a joke compared to Premiere. If you seriously edit video you're tethered to Windows for the time being. At least Apple no longer holds post-production hostage after shooting themselves in the foot with FCPX.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. Stallman is a fat Jew that eats toejam.

Don't forget he was all about feeling the Bern.

Lots of huge budget movies use Linux.

Most of that software isn't available to regular consumers.

You are absolutely fucking retarded user, holy shit.

does it have basic essentials like omf import? that is not negotiable.

Especially true with Pixar. Any recent movie by Pixar was produced using Linux exclusively. From animation, through render, to editing. They even open sourced some of their tools and they are all Linux exclusive.

Not if it's pirated 7 64bit with permanently disabled updates.

Sounds like you didn't bother to learn how to use it, user…

Blender VSE is a full-fledged NLE, not just a sequencer; it's powerful enough to replace Premiere (maybe not Pro), if you actually take the time to learn how to use it.

He thinks that shit is really turned off…

Pretty sure there is a velvet for OMF and EDL formats.

please god make it stop

DirectX 11 is non-existent.
So it doesn't work with games, which are less than a decade old.

most games that support DirectX 11 are also backwards compatible with 10

https:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_11_support

No thanks

Come on when has a little hyperbole ever hurt anyone? I'm a GNU/Linux user and I also don't really like Stallman. I'm just not a retard that uses consoles too, I play non GNU/Linux games through a Michealsoft Binbows 7 VM with GPU passthrough.

You kidding me torfag? that nazi kid wanted to bring a plushie with a fucking fleshlight on it to a family water park

Don't you mean GNU plus Linux plus console?

you have to set qbittorrent as the default magnet handler

did valve introduce VAC to linux yet? when games started pushing linux releases on everything where you interact with other players a billion cheaters started popping up because there is no anti cheating measure at all. For isntance fistful of frags is littered with them and the game was already bad since it's free

VAC depends on scanning your running processes afaik. This is pretty much impossible to enforce in Linux. I always run proprietary shit in a jail for example. I bet many others do as well. As far as Steam is concerned, I have nothing else running on my computer, no other files on my disk, no root account in my system, and all my system directories are mounted read-only.

If you want linux to ever gain market share and gain more support because of it, yes it is.

echo $(date +%s) | cat | cat

echo $(date +%s) | cat | cat >> cat.txt && cat cat.txt | tail -1 | cat && rm -rfv cat.txt > rm.txt && rm rm.txt
