Bioshock thread

Let's talk about the Bioshock series Holla Forums

What did you like about the first game? How about the 2nd and Infinite?
What do you think about the re-releases that came out a few weeks ago?
Did you play the iOS port of the first one? How was it?
Would you live in a Rapture-like city?
Did you know there was also a java port and a cancelled Bioshock port for pre-iphone 4 models?

Infinite was a great walking simulator. No pun intended.

Bioshock 1 was okay, and most people who played System Shock 2 could've seen through the twist a mile away.
Bioshock 2 was good. It was good to finally use the big daddy drill, even if it was just a reskin of the wrench. I liked the rivet gun as well, but again, it was mostly just a reskin of the revolver. Some of the new levels were really good, and the new splicers were good too. The 'moral choices' where you either kill someone or don't didn't really mesh with the gameplay.
Infinite is really bad, and should never have been a video game. The most amazing thing about that game to me is how so many people decried it as Ken Levine's magnum opus, yet the game is barely remembered, and is only love by people who have played it once, and play 'games' like Uncharted and the Last of Us.

I meant to say that Infinite should never have been a first person shooter.

I think you were right the first time

Overall a really shitty series.

I played the first one for about 30 minutes. It was shit and boring. Never touched the series again.

Best thing I can say is that I appreciate the effort put in to create something great… unfortunately it never really got close.
Always felt like I had missed out on the good stuff. Everyone in the city had already turned into zombies but I wanted to see the descent.

Everything's been said. They fixed the problem with the first (not experiencing the city) but the gunplay was dreck, as in seriously felt like a chore.

Main thing the first one had going for it was the atmosphere. Game is piss easy even on the hardest difficulty because of the regeneration chambers. I only played the updated one once with the chambers turned off and it was a lot more fun. Game goes downhill after meeting Andrew Ryan.

2nd one was a disappointment. Level and enemy design feels like a B-team did it. Still better than most fps games at the time.

Infinite marked the downfall of gaming. It's the Michael Bay Transformers of video games. Last game I ever pre-ordered, and I still feel like a dumbass for paying full price.

I wish they had let you choose whether or not to kill Ryan, or had based it on your previous choices in the game.

Since Atlas tells you to kill the little sisters (though without saying the magic words) and you can choose not to, it would make sense if your character has the willpower to resist the 'would you kindly' trigger if you're already used to not following Atlas' orders.

But that's probably just because I really liked Ryan as a character.

the first game is an inconsistent, half baked mess. some decent ideas. 2 takes those decent ideas and fleshed them out into a solid, complete game. 3 is a joke game

So the plane crashed, you got into the lighthouse, arrived in Rapture and turned off the game? Is your ADHD that severe?

First game was good, second game was better, Minerva's Den for 2 was the best, and Infinite was a steaming pile of irredeemable dogshit.

Do you have brain problems?

Seek mental help.

The part where Grace Holloway realizes Delta isn't just a monster acting on instinct/orders but a thinking man if you spare her is much more interesting than anything Infinite came up with.

2 was better in every way except story.

But it does. I can tell you've never actually played Infinite, because 1&2 feature weak weapons that feel like toys and disgustingly bullet spongy enemies.

do you mean as in its shit or its somehow better?
because the combat peaked at 2
I'll admit the shotgun felt alright in Infinite, but only on the easier modes where it still had any oomph, even buffed up it felt pathetic on the harder modes
2's is just as good if not better, and'll pack a punch right down to the end if you give it some attention with the upgrade stations
also the person you're replying to may be echoing mathewmatosis' video where he makes the point that the story is in no way complemented by being an FPS

Yeah, BioShock 2's story wasn't as good as the first game's, but it was decent. For what it was it was delivered well and not full of plotholes or outright nonsense.

pic related

2 had much better gunplay than the first.
Infinite should've been better but the mechanics were messy as fuck. The health system (no stocking health or salt) and the 2 gun system didn't work at all.

Ok now youre being ironic on purpose and i feel insulted for this low tier bait. Heres youre reply

All bioshocks are shit-tier on anything but Normal.

In 1, 2 AND infinite, increasing the difficulty just applies a -% damage multiplier to you, and a +% HP and damage multiplier to enemies, making enemies extremely bullet spongy. All three of them do that shit, and it's retarded.

Here, have some OC.

I didn't mind the health/salt system, but I definitely didn't enjoy the arbitrary 2 weapon limit.

Also not an argument.

I still say thats debatable
it lacks an alive Andrew Ryan, and doesn't end in a massive twist/betrayal
but dealing with the more "human" antagonists of each stage was neat, even if they weren't as flashy as the psychopaths you'd more commonly meet in the first game
not to mention that they essential had a double twist making you think that Sinclair was going to stab you in the back the next chance he got when he ends up attempting to help you right to the bitter end

Beore it was 1 and 2 that you said had shit guns and bullet sponge enemies while implying that infinite was better and did not have those problems. So now you have changed your opinion and retconned your earlier statement because in reaility youre full of shit.

No shit sherlock its called shitposting which is what youre doing right now. Kill yourself

Arguing with you about why Infinite is a bad game would be like arguing with a creationist about evolution. You are so wildly off base about the very basics of the matter that even entertaining you with a rebuttal is not only an insult to the very concept of human intelligence but a completely worthless effort; like trying to teach a retarded child why it's not okay to shit in public.

No, I said that playing on anything but Normal results in shit bullet sponge enemies in all three, but in Infinite enemies aren't bullet spongy on Normal.

That's a lot of words that amount to "I still don't have an argument".

Care to try again, friendo?

...

so then what exactly got better in Infinite?
if thats true then 2 still comes out on top with all available weapons, trap ammo, no halo-style shield, enemies that don't auto-lock on sight, and force you to play peek-a-boo as your shield regens, and trusting the player with health/mana packs, instead of hoping disney princess decides to bless you or pop a bunch nearby for you to hide behind

Enemies not being bullet spongy on normal and general gunplay that feels pretty great.
I never had this issue, as the weapons are powerful enough to quickly and efficiently dispatch every non-special enemy with a headshot or two, especially once you throw on some of the damage % gear.

Did you play on console? I can definitely see this being a viable complaint if you were forced to aim with a gamepad and couldn't just snap-headshot everything.

Still not an argument, sweety :^)

There goes your headcanon agian justifying youre reatarted posts

More dank OC for you, user.

The series has always been shit.
Bioshock 2 might possibly be not shit because it wasn't made by (((Levine))).

...

I guess you just ignored the whole ghost boss huh?
and, you know, everything else
also if you think ANYTHING in the 2nd game is bulletspongy on normal you're fucking retarded
Big Daddies/Sisters work as bosses so they're durable, but not impenetrable, but the former tend to go down faster than you think, Brutes marginally fit the bill, though they rarely are a chore to deal with
splicers fall to a pat on the back, spiders can be one shotted by TKing their hooks, Houdinis become a cake walk when you know where they're going, and Alphas are glass canons
hell, a legitimate complaint about 2 is that it tends to get TOO easy by the end if you actually use the damn camera
enemies are MORE bullet spongy in Infinite if nothing else, and the added pressure of enemy guns forces you to constantly take cover rather then play it doom-style
even if you think thats true, what exactly changed? the first two games have it beat in content alone combat-wise, and the actual feel of weapons isn't much different, if at all

...

Nah ime collecting sone tasty (You)s from you but it seems i even got you to make a comic for me. Youre adorable user dont stop being a sperg and a shill for 2k

big sisters are the closest argument you have since the daddies go down faster in 2, and they can be taken down with similar methods as splicers, stunning makes them pretty easy. they also don't soak up ammo like its candy and constantly spawn a battlefield of armed enemies. its a one on one fight with a tough enemy you can actively prepare for rather than attempting to chip from afar before you get bum-rushed by infinite enemies
also you seem to really like saying all the games are shit before backpedaling to say that it somehow doesn't count in infinite

Hahahaha saved

God tier atmosphere but combat feels like ass

Improved upon gameplay from 1 in every single way. Atmosphere, story and plot overall was OK and not as good as 1

Another example of a developer trying to make a established series with its own componets that make it stand out like call of duty and creating a failed abortion as a result. Nuff said

Anyone got that pic of Ken being a fan of fucking Doctor Manhattan and he doesn't actually know what fucking quantum physics is.

user the ghost goes down in a couple of seconds of sustained fire. I agree that the infinite spawning enemies thing was bad gameplay, but that's a fraction of a percent of the game.

I made two comics for you, user.
Wanna fuck, faggot?

If youre offering. How attractive r u big boi?

So will there ever be a new game in the series? Should I want a new game?

It's ogre dude, at least we won't get Infinite 2

Bioshock had a fantastic setting but uninteresting characters and a lot of absolutely wasted potential. Splicers not having powers for the vast majority of their appearance is nonsensical when it's stated to you in the same breath that they are as they are through ADAM abuse, which implies plasmid consumption; off the top of my head it's just Houdini Splicers that have teleportation and Incinerate!, and later on melee splicers have Electric Flesh gene-tonics. Big Daddies stunk, were easy to fool and only came in two or three varieties which were still just "melee" and "ranged", and even had fucking harder recolors towards the end of the game.

Bioshock 2 improved gameplay a tad but had a markedly worse story to compensate, with brilliant genius beautiful and not-at-all-evil Sofia Lamb suddenly being a Very Important Character who's been with and very influential to Rapture for quite some time despite no sign of her existence whatsoever in Bioshock, even pwning that shitlord Andrew Ryan in public debate once. Getting to play as a Big Daddy was neat.

Haven't played Infinite but it doesn't look good whatsoever. I remember something about interracial couples being a plot-point but that's nonsensical when they could just shove all the blacks off the side of the floating city if they really had a problem with it. Vigors look like they stink and hilariously I even remember a bit about Vigors being referred to as Plasmids in the game's code and .ini files. Elizabeth is shit.

I dont see anything indicating that there will be so hopefully notalthough with jews you lose. Wouldnt be the last time a developer milked a franchise that should have stayed dead

Played infinite? Nuff said

Also splicers just being crack addicts by another name with WW1 plastic-surgery faces is such a fucking lazy way of going about ADAM dependency it hurts, the idea of ADAM dependency in general is pretty terrible but otherwise they wouldn't have human mooks for the game I guess. I remember there being a plan for mutants and flat-out monsters as a result of ADAM abuse but that would've been harder to code than "take terribly-aimed shot" and "tard-charge and swing wrench".

yes but its one of the few memorable moments in the game
it also happens multiple times
hell, even if the big sisters ARE bullet sponges, they don't have nearly as much health as the ghost, make up for it in agility, have more methods to be dealt with, and don't regenerate a huge chunk of health if you die
if you honestly like the gunplay of infinite thats fine, but don't pretend it's common enemies are any frailer because they absolutely are not
and the extra content in weapons/ammo types adds to the depth and encourages experimenting in 1 and especially in 2

In a way I kind of want more vidya exploring the idea of crackpots creating isolated communities in otherwise inhabitable places

Thought the story in the first was a bit odd. 13 years just seems an awful short timespan for that to all happen.
Plus stuff like finding Suchong's still steaming body was weird. Didn't that happen months ago? Why does it look like it happened that day?

*uninhabitable

Hopefully the next game will feature a mountain/forest recluse who creates a rape-cult

...

There's not even terrifically much to make porn of with Bioshock since the only things you've really got going are Big Daddies, Little Sisters, the Lambs and Elizabeth. Also that eagle-Big Daddy in Infinite for the furry crowd.

eh?

It's furry if people get off to the thought of fucking a bird rather than fucking a robot.

nigger it is a big daddy with wings, nothing is furry about it.

I've only played the first one and thought it was pretty mediocre. People always go on and on about how great the story is, but it was honestly kind of bland as well. It seems like people shower praise over any video game story that references politics or philosophy. I guess it seems "mature" to them?

More like BI-LOshock

This edit is a reference to the guy who wants to make a space city?

asgardia.space

Oh and did this game start all that regeneration shit that's all the rage now? I can't tell you how gay it is to die and be thrown back into the game like you just pressed continue.

Bipshock 2 is the best game in the series by far.

Infinite had an interesting story and a waifu, but it's a complete letdown to the previous installments in every other way.

1 was pretty impressive for its time, 2 is the better game overall, infinite is garbage

I hear the add-on for 2 is really good as well, didnt get around to it though I probably should

anybody played those adventure games?

there is a different between bioshock 1 and 2? aside from the story and porn bait?

I usually try to mod every game I play but I just noticed I never modded a Bioshock game. Are those games even moddable?

i havent seen a mod or someone talk about mods for bioshock.

Minerva's den blew the entire game out of the water. If you are going for the prime Bioshock 2 experience, play it.

You will never regret it.

I still play the DLC once a year. Seriously, it is one of the few DLC I felt was worth actually dropping money for.

...

According to Retcon at Sea it happened right in the middle of the riots.

No
No

it had an opportunity for an interesting story
but the first half is just a "racism is bad" with no bite, and the second half is half-assed sci-fi with a shitty disney princess
nothing really gels together well, and you can tell a lot of shit was just shoved in from past, more fleshed out concepts

An okay game, good idea but the execution could be better - it was boring at times

Felt like a DLC

Looks so bland and uninspired that I don't even want to pirate it

No it didn't, felt like an old school sequel that improved every area of the game and introduced new stuff instead of regressing like sequels usually do these days.

kek
It was shit from the start.

It's from the bernstein universe.

Was the story that shitty? I remember the gameplay being shitty
Also, newfag here, whats wrong with Last Of Us?

...

Just bought Infinite for the ps3
Did I do good?
