Second Life is not known for being a graphical powerhouse. Those reflections are scrolling textures that move along with your camera, and having a live feed that records your character and superimposes them onto the mirror would make the server lags like crazy.

The high quality models (for second life) you are all texture based and aren't as high poly as you'd think, it's all smoke and mirrors.

Honestly with overwatch practically now being the progenitor of nu-shooters and this style of games with cartoon-ish character designs, this looks unusually derivative. I'd much rather have these be generic adult action hero films than just try to do overwatch's shtick better. We had top-tier comp players on that server where a single heavy medic combo was so good they could clear 18 people without really even being touched, they forced me to get good so I was fine with it. In the industry its called the "Pixar effect" in trying to make the world a believable place you could actually be living in because Pixar didn't do it first, but they did it best with movies like Bugs Life/Toys/The Incredibles/Monsters Inc etc by having the characters interact in worlds believable to our own

I threw four, repeat, FOUR competitive matches in Overwatch because I refused to play because retards on my team were using terrible characters and I still almost hit diamond rank

Kind of. Overwatch is very foreword with its inspiration when you actually look at the character designs. Which you can argue all day if thats good or bad. I remember one of the earliest threads I saw about it people were saying Pharah is just Egyptian samus. And the inspirations are evne more direct. Road Hog and JunkRat are direct nods to Mad Max. Soldier 76 gameplay wise is referencial to modern shooters and also used as a base character people can easily pick up further leading into the referential nature. Characters like D.Va are so direct its extremely direct.

Most others fit somehow in the setting of future tech, but Hanzo and Genji can just use giant ghost dragons for no reason, and roadhog is mad max for no reason. Junkrat fits a little more thematically as he has a robot hand and just has bombs all over him, not street signs and tires.

I went to the one at Sacred Heart, which is probably the worst of his rallies. It was really fucking hot and humid outside and even hotter and more humid inside. Temperature was easily three digits. There were no chairs, and since it was packed you couldn't move at all. He also arrived like 40 minutes late. Now, the reason as to why I went to his rally was because I figured that it would be fun to watch and laugh, but after the first 10 or so minutes when all of the protestors were thrown out (a secret service guy actually pushed me aside to get to one which was pretty cool), there was nothing. I was expecting to hear some outrageous comments from him, but besides calling the media people literal subhumans followed by several middle fingers and boos, it was really boring. He's a terrible speaker and kept reiterating himself over and over again like a broken record. I left after a couple of hours before he was done because it was just too much to stand that long in that heat, and it started immediately raining like it was Hurricane Sandy all over again. Trump supporters might like it, but for people like me who just want to laugh, it was not worth the time.

Valve ripped off Norman Rockwell and 19th Century painters.

The result was stylized, but not the same way Pixar is. You can tell, especially in beta videos, that the game was, if anything, more like a comic book. It's meant to be a living painting, not a hyper-animated cartoon. Some elements of that came later, with the Meet the Team shorts, but the earliest videos were pretty simplistic and relied on jokes, not slapstick.

I haven't watched much of the Overwatch stuff, but from the clips I've seen in this thread, it seems to just be a goofball farce with really bad attempts at one-liners. The scenes are really busy, nothing really seems to make physical sense in terms of consistency across cuts, and it's prone to have stuff happen "just because". Overall, the art style is clearly a Pixar rip-off.

But it's not fair to lump TF2 in there, because it has much broader artistic influences and design goals, and its style is not really intended for that kind of environment. Pixar's style wasn't even cemented by the time TF2 struck their final art direction.
