I honestly think they are trying to taint the Russia investigation so they can claim anything that comes out of this investigation as tainted. Sorry, he would have had to know all communications with foreign diplomats were routinely collected. He could claim ignorance that a FISA was granted, but given the content of the convo it'd be safe to assume they'd get permission to unmask him.

Strzok is a high value target, especially considering the fact that he is the deputy head of counterintelligence. It sounds like after a while, Page probably was gunning to get Strzok to pass information to her. She already had gotten him to her side of the political spectrum it seems.
