I think this serves several functions, but primarily it dehumanized the target, they're not promoting the genocide of a race of people through this agitprop, but just mindless animals.
Secondly it allows middle-class leftists the same kind of guilt pass, while allowing them to feel superior. Their children would never be made to wear such appallingly cheap glasses, cheap polyester uniform, or fed such unhealthy food. remember however, that most of those identifying as "middle-class" are nothing of the sort, they are simply working-class people who have made the leap from factory to office cubile, but anything which serves to mentally distance them from what they actually are provides a sort of comfort.
