You must have some really low standards

...

I one used a bowl of oatmeal as a fleshlight and it was likely the best orgasm I've ever had. I have no shame.
That's not oatmeal.
This is oatmeal.
Granted those flakes might be made from oatmeal, which at that point it should say "Oatmeal Flakes" and not "Oatmeal Crisp"

WHY WOULD DO THAT
That's also not technically oatmeal, that's just oatmeal porridge. Oatmeal is a type of grain.

I thought it would feel good I was right
Oh fug, you're right.
Still, oatmeal porridge is far more like actual oatmeal that those flakes. They look like 80% sugar, 15% wheat and 5% oatmeal.

LEGIO V

Here's my pick.

...

What is there even too like about oblivion other than a few decent quest lines?

>not having your legionnaires proclaim you Imperator after loyal service to the Legion

I liked oblivion at the time, but I can't play it anymore. I tried playing nehrim and I felt like the engine itself was straining not to die under its own weight, left me constantly on edge that it would crash. which it did, about 10 times

New Vegas

no thank you

It was comfy, mostly. Comfiest game of the year all years.
Plus, I liked how the MC isn't a mythical hero or something like that. Just a guy/gal who happened to be in the right place at the right time. It was different, and that was neat.

And why is it comfy?

Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game, so it has a very special place in my heart. I had never played a game so open-ended and vast before. When I realized just how big and important it was, exploring Cyrodil for the first time… in 2006 I was 10 years old. It was just magical, I will never feel that way about a videogame again.

It makes me sad sometimes to see all the hate it gets but I do recognize the superiority of Morrowind now. Still, I can't help but feel that Oblivion has a certain charm that can't be matched…

Where have I seen this copypasta before

nice thumbnail millennial

It's no fair if you start with the right answer.

Yes, STALKER counts.

Does Arcanum work on Windows 10? How the fuck do I make it run properly, I've always had problems. Really wanna play though.

Also what the fuck is Stalker, people talk about it but is it worth playing or is it just a meme?

No idea, I use windows 7. Have you looked at pcgamingwiki?

Also I'm assuming you're using the unoffical patch. It is a Troika game after all.

Underage need not post.

Also if you haven't already torrent the GoG version.

People who were ten back in 2006 are now 20, user.

Doesn't matter, once underage always underage.

Even Skyrim is an objectively better game.

People who were ten back in 2006 would've been old enough to post on halfchan before the exodus
People who were 17 back in 2006 are most likely older than you and if not that's pretty sad

Constantinople

What the fuck

Nice ENB.

It's Kostantiniyye anyway.

I like them all tbqh.

It was a good game, but come on. Inventory management and ability to wear different armours don't make an RPG.

What makes a video game "RPG"? Only consistent use is a game that is similar to early games that were aping D&D. Doesn't have anything to do with actual roleplaying.

I dunno man, Oblivion only had good quests, when I think back I don't think there was any bad questline, each of the guild questlines were fucking amazing storytelling except fighter's guild but in retrospect from what Skyrim and Fallout 4 did to bethesda's reputation even those are pretty good

/thread

pretty good choice, but i'd say the best western RPG, in fact the best RPG of all time was gothic 2.

Here's your (you)

Abstraction. The roleplaying comes from how the battle relies on abstraction instead of player's twitch reflexes.

See STALKER, but with skill leveling system.

Good taste

The first 5 that came to my head.

I mean I enjoyed the South Park game for what it was, but it's only worth one playthrough and, as far as JRPG-likes go, it's not all that great gameplay-wise. Hopefully Fractured But Whole is better in this regard, they're making it more like a TRPG it seems

It's nice that we can all agree that Baldur's Gate II is the best RPG of all time.

...

...

Never played any of the M&M dungeon crawlers yet. But Wizardry 8 is one of the best. Good pick, Satan

I'm not sure if I should say Neverwinter Nights. You could even make persistent worlds and servers with the map editor and had fun playing MMO-simulators before free MMOs existed.

Did you consume it afterwards?

you mean the city full of drug addicts and low lifes?

Isn't Wizardry japanese satan?

You know that sucking off people in Seppukustan won't make them love you, right?

Judging by that picture it definitely has better style and armour design than most Western RPGs.

No, it was just huge in Japan and influenced jrpgs heavily+some spinoffs developed in Nipland
It's American/Canadian developed though

I think that's one of the most overrated games I've played. Solid game. But best RPG is just insane.

Doom and Destiny is a game that almost entirely uses default RPG maker assets. But it has a fun battle system and the writing is actually quite solid. It also has a lot of secrets and optional boss fights that are really challenging.

I don't care if it's bait, fuck you. Just because it's turn based and you level up doesn't mean it's an RPG. And if you were to consider that game an RPG then congratulations, you've just set the bar extremely low for what can be considered an RPG.

Please bait harder.

Literally all the weeb dungeon crawlers you know are there thanks to Wizardry/Dungeon Master. I bet the generic JRPG genre also owns part of its inception to the Ultima games.

Ultima 4-7

The guy who made Dragon Quest was obsessed with Ultima and Wizardry to the point where there's easter eggs in the game referencing them

Alot of babbies here had it as their first game, I'd think. It's a bit less shitty looking than morrowind, and you can walk around freely and do things unlike most games at the time. You can even talk to NPCS! 10 years since, and it still isn't any different. But Daggerfa- I mean, Oblivion, did it first to them so its the only good one.

...

Well there you have it.

I liked the part of the fighter's guild questline where it showed the guy's painting. Horrible painting.

Stick of Truth on PC was a fucking mess. The QTEs were so horrendous that I quit the game because of them.

Not mentioned in this thread yet: the NWN series for multiplayer modules and MotB.

It's what I'd classify as an 'RPG lite'. Hell set it 100 years in the future and change the name of artfacts to augmentations and you've got something a lot less ambiguous.

...

so i guess anygame can be an rpg

RPG lite also covers Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Invisible War and so on.

Basically an RPG where character skills are not a huge factor but there's still semi-significant emphasis on stats and choice in your storyline, interactions with characters etc.

...

...

Have you played Planescape: Torment?

...

Dark souls II

Hell yeah, Lucifer!

...

Who thought those were good ideas?

...

I said the best Western RPGs, I didn't ask for RPGMaker trash

Istanbul :^)

Speaking of Western RPGs, is there an actual Wild West RPG? The closest I can think of is New Vegas and Wasteland 2

Severance
Arx Fatalis
Gothic 2
Deus Ex
Mass Effect 2
Fallout 4

Not that I can think off, there's hard west, but that's more akin to xcom than a rpg
Damn shame too, since it'd be a great setting for one

the switch from 2D to 3D didn't treat a lot of games well
especially M&M

I can't think of a single WRPG that isn't at least a little bit buggy

I don't even mean this as an insult I just always figured it comes with the scope and nature of the games and can't be helped

If you know one that isn't like this, I'd really want to know, because this doesn't sound right at all

Wizardy started out as a Western series, and for whatever reason the Japanese really, really liked it. Japanese developers were permitted to make titles in the series, and we ended up with an insane amount of Japanese Wizardry games for all kinds of systems, to the point where I think there's more of them than the actual originals.

You ever see that Ultima game, Runes of Virtue on GameBoy? Imagine that but there's like dozens of them.

There was this… thing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desperados_2:_Cooper's_Revenge

I have no idea if it's any good, but it's the first thing I found.

They also might not count in this context because they're console JRPGs, but since I'm grasping at straws I'll mention the Wild ARMs series, though they blend the wild west premise with lots of fantasy and sci-fi shit. Less Red Dead, more Trigun. Maybe you'd like them, I have no idea.

...

I did start the first Wild Arms about a year ago, but I never finished it. I should probably get back to it. Were the sequels better?

God fucking dammit now I have to reinstall this shit.

Back on topic though. It may be because I didn't really grow up playing many WRPGs, but I haven't really played a WRPG that I could label as a "best of the genre" contender. Like I feel like a "best of the genre" game should be better than what I've played so far. Skyrim and New Vegas are alright, and Vampire the Masquerade is pretty good. Legend of Grimrock was good too. Overall though all I've gotten from this genre is kind of "meh". I think I'm just more of a JRPG kind of guy.

What would you consider to be the best of the JRPG genre?

Dubs I got,
Yes, dubs you see!
So hurry up,
And answer me!

Probably either Final Fantasy IX, one of the Ys games, or one of the Phantasy Star games.

Chrono Trigger is the correct answer

Shit I forgot about that one. Chrono Cross is fantastic too.

You're all a bunch of fucking PLEBS!

Eh, RPG-6 was better

How about RPG Maker gold?

(checked)
I'm told the sequels vary in quality, but I've heard very positive things about 5 (which is, at present, the final game; there hasn't been another yet)

I should point out that the first game has a remake on PS2 that's more in line with the sequels. One of the big selling points is that you have more party members instead of just the three from the original.

(checked)
I can never make up my mind about this sort of thing, but I can say I'm very fond of Xenoblade and I'd at least consider it for the spot.

This was an RPG Maker game? I had no idea. I never played it

FUCK OFF TUMBLRTALE
FAGGOT "GAME" FOR FAGGOTS

YOU TOO
GO BACK TO TUMBLR

It used a series of horizontal paths, and sprites were changed in perspective, all the jumps up and down are done from an easy command and a series of events already present, it even uses some combo attack code from the RPGmaker forums.

The default is a top down perspective, but if you make your own assets and plant a little simple code here and there, you can make a real good game that's at least SNES Dragon Quest level, but with more elaborate animations.

You make RPGs. All it is a 50-100 dollar engine, and anyone can use it, which means there's a lot of shit. But gold can be made and it has been made, so don't be too quick to throw away games that use the engine.

It's a surprisingly versatile engine and it's good at what it does, making 2D rpgs.

This is definitely something I should look into, then. I was playing the PS1 version, and I remember thinking it was a really good concept but with a sort of bland execution. Thanks for the heads up.

Western RPG. The one you've posted is asian.

Kotor 2 was pretty great, though sadly unfinished, like many of obsidians games. With the patch adding in a lot of stuff, it made it even better though.

Are roguelikes Western RPGs? I know that generally roguelikes from the west are better.

That's not how you spell Tsargrad.

I'm not sure if you're retarded or a genius.

user. . . .Did you hurt your head?

That's what it is, a WRPG made in Japan

...

If its made in japan how can it be a western rpg?

WRPG isn't a genre you dumb faggot, it's a regional indicator.

You have to admit that there are certainly stylistic, aesthetic, and mechanical differences between WRPGs and JRPGs that make them distinct from one another. While they shouldn't be considered their own genres, they are definitely distinct subgenres within the overarching RPG genre, like ARPGs.

...

...

Kill yourselves, every single one of you.

...

...

arguably

All the japanese ones that I know of are commercial games. They're not necessarily bad, but they're a very different beast. They tend to be better than steam indie roguelike shovelware at least.

Learning from Ultima and Wizardry was the right thing to do.

WRPGS unfortunately abandoned this and ended up with Mass Effect and Inquisition.

Vampire was awful.

Contemplate suicide

yeah, Shiren the Wanderer is just straight up a Roguelike, but the town part between dungeon runs is very much like a JRPG. Would recommend to any Roguelike fans, very polished.

Vampire was a fucking mess when it shipped, let's be honest. But nobody has to play the release version these days, and post-patches it shines.

If you've not played it, you need to.

Can you give me a good reason why?

So you'll be less of a faggot.

No but really. What makes this game good in your opinion, I'm interdasted?

The only good answer.

the unofficial patch kind of annoys me. I wanna cheat the game to get full protean on a nosferatu, but apparently you can only get it to the fourth level and only the gangrel clan can get full protean. How did the guy making it manage to block it like that? Shouldn't the console bypass everything?

Porn mods.

The more time passes, the more complaints I see about wesp's retarded changes to VtMBUP. I've stopped updating somewhere around 6.8-7.0. The game was perfectly playable and the Plus version only re-added stuff that was mostly implemented by Troika but disabled due to being buggy or slightly incomplete, at least as far as I can remember. He should've really stopped somewhere around that time.

Hi Razorfaggot

Who's this Semen Demon?

Choose one and only one faggot.

Japan is trash kill youself

shit man, what the fuck are you doing here?

...

teehee

Here's my taste
- not too much fantasy
- not too much edginess
- action based
- no fiddling with AI partners
- fun world with lots of quests and options
- no procedural generation/simulation
- if there's magic it has to be
1. Unknown 2. Difficult to understand 3. Evil
no buying le fireball from the general store for 10 gp

What are you, a pussy?

Why are the dilbert animations so fucking hypnotic?

2 nukes wasn't enough

But what if they mutate even further? What if it will be even worse?
