Remember, the flank's job is not ONLY to kill the damage dealers / supports, they are there to make chaos as well and to push people off the objective so your team can capitalize the cpature point / payload.

Kinessa with one or two upgrades on Aggression can one shot her as well. What's more, CRIPPLE (Grover's right click) does not let her use dodge roll, slows make her dodge become shittier and there's a lot of slows in the game.

the aoe isnt really that big, but you can deter some folks with a slower rate of fire who wont just shoot the minefield, or urge them to use their mobility skill.

I just started so I don't have a lot of cards or anything like that, I honestly thought it was going to be like TF2 Demoman, but my stickybombs seem to do almost no damage if it's not a direct hit, so I have to hug the guys and throw the bombs on them, so what's the point of them being bombs if I basically can only damage one guy with them?

He's DPS/Flank, he focuses down one person (make sure to use good use of poppy bomb), gets behind them, tosses a couple of stickies (generally if he's under 3k damage about 3 will do) and kills them. If they were with a large blast radius, it would be overpowered as fuck. Having the ability to remote detonate is already quite strong. Also learn to aim, arc and point ahead as otherwise you won't do anything. Still underpowered though. Play Pip if you want large radius no skill explosives or Drogoz.

Ying Teleport feels so random, at times I'll use it just to see where I'll go. Last game I ended up on top of the map and had no way to get down, killed a guy then double peace signed until they deleted me from the firmament

if you hold the button down you can select an illusion to warp to. also you can warp back to your original location if you hit it again within the duration of the bar on the bottom, which i almost never see yings do for some reason.

the blast radius on stickies isnt that huge but its one of the faster projectiles in the game and has a decent rate of fire, its not "too" hard to land it on someone from mid range.
hes not that easy but hes got a huge impact on the game and there arent really any maps he struggles on.

if they were to increase the blast radius they might have to nerf other aspects of it such as the rate of fire and he wouldnt be quite as much of a terror to fatties then, he would be less of an all-arounder.

In any case, as I said I don't find him particulary fun to play as I thought I would, perhaps he is just not my kind of character (because I was expecting something like demoman), but maybe if he gets buffed it could be more like that, rather than "fly next to the guy, throw 3 bombs, fly away from the guy".

I just run to the middle, use Q, then try to hook someone. If shit goes wrong, then F to run away and repeat. I generally play more defensive which could be why it works well for me

Probably rely on the shield and put points into it. I've been running this build for a while and have had good results. Focus is Strong Arm IV and Salvage II. Hit a few shots on someone, grab them in, do two more shots. You can get easy solo kills this way on low/mid hp targets, you can get easy team kills on tanks this way. Spring Tide I is reliable, Leviathan IV is to much HP to ignore for pub games and last card is preference.

The shield is good but I'd rather focus on the best part of his kit.

The best way to build your core base is to let the first in get access to all the content in a decent time frame(champions), but still give them a solid progression/learning curve (cards) then proceed with "end game" gold sinks like voice packs and skins. This is good for casual players, competitive players and completionist players. I doubt they'll change the rate they give it away any time soon at least.

shield sheldon himself is already 50% more expensive than the rest of the roster.

So after hitting lv 29 I decided to try the unorthodox builds.

Damage fernando is really fun, buy really easily countered, so you will either be a god or free kills for the enemy.

Damage Pip is a machine that rains death down upon enemies, explosive blast too good.

A casuall and fun game that requires teamplay and even if it is as simple, it still requires skill at least aim and knowledge of when to get in / out.

Don't expect anything, just play. Remember that you're against bots till level5.
Try the characters, look what they do, find your kind of gameplay and try to at least have knowledge of one character per role just in case your team needs badly X so you're prepared and you're not one of those faggots that only play one character or one class like damage or flank.

Is Paladins closer to TF2 in that every character has great combat potential? Even Medic with the crossbow would outshine mercy and lucio. Most of the times you see Pip he'll be one of the guys that deals the most damage instead of being a "proper" support for example.
Grover (the three) can deal up to 1.2K damage (average max HP is around 2-3kHP) depending on the distance throwing his axe (which is not a skill mind you, you can spam that shit)
Grohk the orc shaman deals massive DPS at mid-range.

All the supports, if they have a shit team, can do something themselves, they can kill and take more damage than a Damage character. However do not expect them to tank more than a Front line or to deal more damage than a Flank / Damage character.

Back then i did not care for people calling Paladins a Overwatch clone as both games were very different but now they feel too similar imo. although id bet a big reason hes upset about it is as an older player of paladins her ult used to do like 2000 damage over the full duration, if not more. her damage was also far lower, with a faster projectile so its not as if she was some god of destruction either.

the reason they dont like ruckus is because hes actually quite fragile and doesnt contest the point when the action is consolidated on it.
honestly though that probably shouldnt be the case since the game should be more chaotic than a big clash in the middle of the map. and he will always win against other tanks when neither of them have support. but his big problems are the cooldowns and low duration and durability of the shield, being able to fire while his shield is up is awesome, but he will get torn to pieces in those aforementioned mexican standoffs where he and a much beefier front liner are the center of attention.
barik is very similar, the big difference being that bariks shield is up more often. and firing doesnt bring him to a near halt. i know theres a card for it but at 5% per level its not worth taking over something infinitely more useful like shield duration and cooldown. in fact a lot of his cards are shit, like 7% faster cooldown time on advance

Evie was good before because she could blink with her Ice Block, so she had a lot more depth and made her ultimate useful, since you could use ultimate at melee and then ice block to then teleport and start killing everyone with her massive damage. However, thanks to that nerf that wont let her teleport while Ice Block is active, most of her kit is now "lol I'm a worse Drogoz flanker".

you can use it while your shield is up. one of fernandos default cards lowers the cooldown on charge when your shield takes damage, maybe you can bring it over to them if they like it so damn much, its pretty fucking intimidating when fernando decides hes not going to just sit there and let you shoot him . sometimes when playing defensively isnt working youll have to start killing shit. in the end your job is to draw the enemies attention in some form or another, not just to be a wall. if you spec in to it, it can give you a decent shield or a knockback. thats not a 6 second cooldown! with the knockback youll be able to ensure that your team stays ahead in objective time by knocking their tanks away.
it doesnt do a lot of damage, but if youre trying to kill someone as fernando youll take what you can get.

in fact, taking the increased health card is so silly when you can get the shielded charge, its twice as effective and lasts for 5 seconds, 1 second less than the full cooldown of charge. sure the enemy could get 2 levels of shield breaking to break even with the health card and they should anyways against a fernando but youre not always going to be fighting their main damage dealer, and thats still on demand health on a 6 second cooldown.

You either have people actually utilizing your shield and staying behind it or you have your team running around random places on the map completely oblivious. I can't tell you how many times I've reached the front line put down my shield and looked behind me to see no one there. Without competent teammates who know to get near the tank character Barik is useless.

really the most annoying part about this game is that you have to look behind you to find out if you're getting thrown under the bus by your team. Doesn't work out so well as fernando.

I've completely given up on any hope of playing damage in this game. I enjoy Cassie, and want to get better at using her, but it's just so frustrating having literal retards on support that I feel compelled to stick with Ying.

I've also considered front line because one of my games today had a Fernando who kept spinning around like a retard. If he would have just stood the fuck still behind his shield we could have consistently held the OBJ, but no, he had to consistently be a retard that let everyone else get gunned down so the enemy could swarm him.

I haven't played a shooter type game on the PC since 2008. I'm just not good enough to carry anymore. I want to get good again, but I'm just afraid it's been too long.

I think this is how my dad felt. He always ended up taking on these kind of jobs in games whenever we played, because he just couldn't keep up with everything happening on the screen anymore.

Just practice to de-rust and go from there. It'll be fundamentals that set players apart the most in this game. Its very fresh so skill variance is all over the place. Its fun seeing people learn over time early on imo.

Speaking of which now that I've gotten everyone to lvl 4 min so now I'm grinding out the cards. Defaulting to Fernando most games because it makes it so much easier then playing other front lines most of the time. He isn't that hard to counter but most just die to fire, especially with the burn dot buff. Such a pain in the ass

the game is just really bad about letting you know what's going on in your surroundings, so there's really no choice but to spin like a mook to check for flanks. it's one of fernando's biggest problems with his shielding.

The map icons should only show the enemies that someone on your team or you see. Meaning that a flanker should be invisible since noone is looking at him.

and why is no one looking at the flanker?

The flanker is suppossed to get near without being seen. His icon will appear the moment someone moves to see him after getting shot a few times or after someone noticing a teammate dying behind.

Making a flanker appear in the mini map would not make them useless, it means that they would have more uses: increase fear on the opponent team, making them look for the flanker and forget about the objective or be paranoid without taking 100% care of what they have in front.

In short, flankers would not be only "I go behind and shoot people to death" but "I shoot people to death and I make people lose concentration"
