Sorry im a bit tired and caffeen is wearing off but to redo my previous statement its more like "ive been alive for about 30ish years and during my deployments all over and having to go to many different military bases, most of which have been in shithole countries I can say for certain that its a massive difference when a sickness comes over your area of operations.

Lets say something like this happens in America. You have doctor offices every few blocks on the main roads, you have massive hospitals ( at least 3 in a decent sized town) and extremely well trained ems and physicians. We also have access to so many drugs, cleaning products and information about illnesses that we can just easily clean that shit up. We have CDC that works with a zealot like passion when it comes to containing outbreaks and curing them. We have things set up properly so where if something like this was to happen in the USA we would be completely fine. It would make the news a bit, perhaps a few unlucky people will die but thats about it. Now imagine being in some third world shithole base. Yes the military is from the US but it has to operate in a shitty country that doesnt even have the support of being able to pop next door for some readily available drugs and antibiotics. What you have in that doctor's room is what you have for miles and miles around until next drop. So you catch something that no one has shit for, you cant just run to a CDC office, cant rely on external help or anything else. You wont have a government available to co-ordinate supplies or workers to contain the situation nor will you have the people able to cure it properly if its something like THE PLAGUE. Granted we can easily get supplies out but in third world countries there is something called the lack of infrastructure. They have no roads, no decently equipped medical facilities or trained doctors that could support your team.

So what im trying to say is this: You get something that wasnt a foreseen illness in your base, the entire place is fucked for a good while until Navy yeoman get off their fucking ass and requisition the shit you need to live. If you are in a small base you can easily section off the sick fuckers and identify who was with who and quarantine them until they are all clear. If its a big base then shit can easily sweep through like wildfire, especially airborne pathogens. This is all firsthand knowledge. This is one of the reason why people in the military dont like to touch each other if the have been stationed in shitholes. I know I dont and for good reason.
